Abstract

This study aims to analyze multimodal discourse in commercial advertisements on social media, specifically the Good Day Latte x BABYMONSTER and Frisian Flag advertisements. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through video and image observation from YouTube and Instagram. The analysis applies Michele Anstey and Geoff Bull’s semiotic systems theory, which includes linguistic, visual, audio, gestural, and spatial modes. The findings show that both advertisements successfully integrate multiple semiotic modes to construct persuasive messages. The Good Day Latte advertisement features mixed languages (English, Korean, Indonesian), cheerful visuals with animation, energetic Korean pop music, expressive gestures, and a warm spatial arrangement. Meanwhile, the Frisian Flag advertisement uses informal language, Islamic family visuals, nutritional infographics, warm background music, natural gestures, and spatial layouts emphasizing togetherness and the “100 Years Trusted” claim. This multimodal integration strengthens emotional engagement and conveys product messages relevant to Indonesian cultural contexts, such as Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the forms of ambiguity and multiple interpretations that appear in language on Instagram. The method used is qualitative descriptive with a semantic approach. The descriptive method is applied to examine the current condition of a particular group, object, mindset, or event. The data consist of words, phrases, and sentences categorized as ambiguous or open to multiple interpretations. The data source is various posts on social media, specifically Instagram. The data analysis process was carried out in three stages: (1) data reduction to filter relevant linguistic units, (2) data presentation to facilitate the understanding of the analyzed phenomena, and (3) conclusion drawing or verification. The findings indicate that diction choices, sentence structure, slang expressions, and idiomatic usage in public communication must be carefully considered and adjusted to the context and audience. Failure to do so may lead to ambiguity, multiple interpretations, misunderstandings, and ethical issues in communication. Ambiguity does not only create confusion in message delivery but also has the potential to shape misguided public opinion.

Abstract

Language development plays a very important role in children's education because it is related to communication, emotional expression, and cognitive development. In Indonesian society, which has a variety of languages, children are often introduced to various languages from an early age, including local languages, the national language, and foreign languages. The family is an important environment for learning. Parents play a role in guiding children to fulfill their developmental obligations, including language development. This study describes how parental tasks influence children's individual development. This study aims to explain the influence of parents on the acquisition of multilingualism in children aged three years and nine months. This study focuses on how parental tasks support and accelerate children's proficiency in mastering three languages. This study uses a qualitative approach, namely document study. The respondent in this study is a three-year-old child named Ueno Ritsuki. The data analysis obtained in this study is in the form of conversations. The data source for this study is the utterances of a child named Ueno Ritsuki, who is three years and five months old.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the educational values embedded in two short stories published in Jawa Post April 2025, namely “Si Kucing yang Sangat Anjing” by Sasti Gotama and “Anak Tunggal Seorang Dukun” by Ilham Safutra. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method using content analysis. The data consist of textual excerpts reflecting religious, moral, social, and cultural values. The findings reveal that both stories present moral values such as responsibility, honesty, courage in decision-making, and self-control. Religious values are represented through expressions of faith and spiritual awareness in interpreting life experiences. Social values emerge from depictions of solidarity, critique of societal stigma, interpersonal relationships, and the influence of social media. Cultural values involve local beliefs, traditional practices, and social stratification within the community. Thus, the stories function not merely as literary entertainment but also as a medium for character education, offering meaningful insights for readers

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the forms and factors causing foreign language interference in the Indonesian speech of students at Universitas Peradaban. Foreign language interference, particularly from English and Arabic, often appears in students' verbal communication and has the potential to influence the structure and rules of normative Indonesian. This research is motivated by a common phenomenon in academic environments where students are accustomed to using foreign terms in their daily lives, both in formal and informal contexts, thereby triggering linguistic shifts and deviations in their native language. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, employing data collection techniques such as participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation of students' speech recordings from various faculties. The data were then analyzed using a linguistic analysis approach by classifying the forms of interference into phonological, morphological, syntactic, and lexical aspects. The results of the study indicate that the most dominant interference occurs in the lexical aspect, where many English words or phrases are used directly without translation, such as “deadline,” “submit,” or “mute”. Additionally, there were syntactic deviations due to the influence of foreign sentence structures. The main factors causing interference included the habit of using foreign languages in lecture materials, the influence of digital media, and the perception that using foreign languages reflects a higher level of intellectuality. The conclusion of this study confirms that foreign language interference in student speech is not only a linguistic phenomenon but also reflects the social and cultural dynamics within the academic community. Therefore, efforts to strengthen awareness of proper and correct Indonesian language use in higher education settings are necessary to preserve the national language identity.

Abstract

This study examines various linguistic problems in the use of contemporary Indonesian, particularly in the digital age. Numerous language errors were identified across several media platforms such as social media, public spaces, and formal discourse. These errors include incorrect spelling, punctuation mistakes, improper word choice, ineffective sentence structures, inappropriate loanword usage, code-mixing and code-switching, as well as illogical or ambiguous expressions. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the study used reading, note-taking, and documentation techniques to collect data from written and spoken sources. The findings reveal that linguistic deviations occur frequently due to the public’s weak understanding of standard Indonesian language rules, compounded by the influence of popular culture and unregulated digital communication. Therefore, language education and increased linguistic literacy are essential to preserving the dignity of the Indonesian language. This research is expected to serve as a foundation for raising public awareness about the importance of proper language use in all aspects of life.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the form of social criticism in memes circulating on social media using a pragmatic discourse approach. Memes as part of today's popular culture are not only used for entertainment, but also used as a medium for conveying social messages directly or implicitly. This study uses pragmatics theory, especially related to speech context, implicature, and speech acts, to see how criticism of social, political, economic, and cultural issues is packaged through a combination of text and images in memes. Data were obtained from various social media accounts that consistently upload memes with social criticism nuances. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The results of the analysis show that memes are an effective medium of social criticism because they combine elements of satirical language, humor, and meaningful visual symbols. Thus, memes have an important role as an alternative means of communication in conveying public opinion or aspirations creatively and critically.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of code-mixing that appear in digital communication and analyze the social factors that influence them. The method used is a literature study by reviewing journals and scientific articles published between 2017 and 2025. The results of the study indicate that code-mixing occurs at the word, phrase, and clause levels, in both external (Indonesian-English) and internal (International regional language) forms. The use of code-mixing is influenced by bilingual ability, educational background, group identity, informal communication context, and digital cultural trends. This phenomenon reflects linguistic creativity and the formation of social identity, but still requires attention to prevent it from displacing the function of Indonesian as a unifying language.
