Abstract

A quarter-life crisis is a condition related to fulfilling early adult developmental tasks. Failing to fulfil these tasks can disrupt productivity and social relationships, cause emotional instability, and increase the risks of mental disorders. The Quarter-Life Management Program Based on Solution-Focused Therapy is designed to treat individuals aged 18-25 years with quarter-life crisis who experience education, employment, social relations, or personal identity problems. This study aimed to validate the program module. The content validation procedure carried out through professional judgment, resulted in an Aiken’s V score of 0.91. The functional validation procedure was carried out through experimental research on 7 participants in experimental groups and 7 participants in waitlist-control group. The results of the within-subject test analysis indicate that the implementation of the program did not have a significant effect in reducing quarter-life crisis in the experimental group (p= 0.052). However, the program was effective in increasing a more positive self-perspective and enhancing problem-solving abilities (p= 0.035 and p= 0.007). In contrast, the waitlist-control group, which did not receive the program, showed no changes.

Abstract

Schizophrenia is a disorder that affects thoughts, feelings, and behavior, often accompanied by positive symptoms such as delusions and hallucinations. CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) is a psychotherapeutic approach that help individuals with schizophrenia develop coping strategies and reduce positive symptoms. This scoping review research maps the variations of CBT types through 24 journals from PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect (published from 2000 to 2022), which studied participants aged 18–65 years without comorbidities. CBT can be applied individually or in groups, including general cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance-based, cognitive behavioral social skill training, brief CBT for psychosis (culturally adapted), guided self-help, and module-based for specific symptoms. Most participants in the reviewed study were of age 30 to 50, with the majority being male. Based on the scoping review conducted, CBT can be conducted with therapist guidance or self-administered. CBT was also found to be effective in addressing positive symptoms in individuals with schizophrenia.

Abstract

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) can lead to posttraumatic stress and disruptions in adulthood, highlighting the need for appropriate treatment. This study aimed to examine the effect of Forgiveness Therapy in improving posttraumatic growth (PTG) among young adults with ACEs history. A partially randomized experimental design with pretest, posttest 1, and posttest 2 was implemented. The study included 16 participants who were divided into two groups with eight participants, respectively. Statistical analysis using repeated measures ANOVA indicated interaction between PTG scores with group (F(2) = 19.0, p < 0.01). An independent sample t-test also revealed a significant difference of PTG score between groups, with a large effect size (t(14,0)= 2.38; d= 1.19). In conclusion, Forgiveness Therapy was found to increase PTG by facilitating emotional regulation, cognitive reframing, self-disclosure, and the therapeutic effects of group therapy.

Abstract

The study aimed to test the effectiveness of stress management training in reducing academic distress and increasing self-efficacy. The research used a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design. It involved 10 mahasantri or university students who memorized the Quran and experienced a high level of academic stress and low self-efficacy. The stress management training lasted for seven sessions. The research employed the academic stress scale and general self-efficacy scale to collect data from the participants. Data analysis was conducted using an independent sample t-test based on the gain score. The results showed that stress management training was effective in reducing academic distress and increasing self-efficacy, with a relatively large effectiveness value. The results imply that low academic stress and high self-efficacy improve the chance of students completing their education and memorizing the Quran.

Abstract

Tantrums are a common emotional response in children, often occurring when they struggle to regulate their emotions. This study focused on the use of filial therapy in improving emotional regulation and reducing tantrum frequency in a 9-year-old boy. Filial therapy was chosen for its emphasis on parental involvement, strengthening the parent-child bond, and teaching emotional regulation skills. The study was a single subject research design, that began with an initial assessment through interviews, observations, and psychological tests. This was followed by an 11-session filial therapy. The results showed a significant improvement in the participant’s emotional regulation, leading to a reduction in tantrum behavior. The ERQ scores during the pretest were 25 (moderate category), increasing to 47 (high category) in the post-test, and further rising to 55 (high category) in the follow-up assessment. These findings highlight the essential role of parents in supporting their child's emotional development and the use of filial therapy to improve parent-child dynamics and reduce tantrums.

Abstract

Depression and anxiety are strong indicators of difficulties in the process of recentering during emerging adulthood. Although various interventions exist to address these issues, group psychosynthesis offers efficient treatment in developing countries. This case report highlights the experiences of seven university students who participated in Empathic Love Therapy (ELT) group to reduce depression and anxiety, as measured by the Patient Health Questionnaire Anxiety and Depression (PHQ-ADS) scale (d = 1.79; p < .01). The application of psychosynthesis through the Empathic Love Therapy (ELT) module in a group setting demonstrates potential as a cost-effective option for primary healthcare professionals, particularly in addressing the rising number of students at risk of self-harm or suicide.
