Abstract

Humans are often viewed as rational beings. Studies on behavioral economics regarding rationality depend on both economic theories of rational decision making, as well as psychological cognitive theories behind mental and behavioral processes. Experimental research over the last half century has shown systematic deviations from the principle of rationality, also called anomaly, in individual judgment and decision-making. The theoretical explanation for the anomaly currently emphasizes on the limitations of individual rationality. Furthermore, limitations in rationality are seen as a universal feature of the individual. However, in recent times, there have been studies that attempt to prove individual differences as a factor behind anomalies in judgment and decision making. This paper attempts to summarize both points of view, and discusses the need to develop an instrument to measure rationality as an individual discriminatory factor in judgment and decision making.

Abstract

In light of the current socio-political situation that magnifies the majority-minority group division in the country, it is essential for parents and other elements of the society to discuss about how this situation may affect the development of the next generation. Both explicit and implicit information on social categorization provided by adults and other resources assist in the formation of children’s stereotype and prejudice towards various social groups. This paper reviews empirical studies on the development of prejudice across childhood and the strategy that can potentially facilitates the reduction of prejudice among children. It is evident that children have begun to use social categories to describe different social groups from a very young age and promoting intergroup contact may be used as a promising solution to lower prejudice among children.

Abstract

The number of person with eating disorders is increasing almost all over the world. Theexact cause of an eating disorder is difficult to determine. The feeling of shame caused by negativejudgments on one’s body has a positive correlation to the emergence of pathological eatingbehavior. Furthermore, the position of body shame as a variable in research on eatingdisorders is still inconsistent in some studies, consequently, it is placed as a mediatingvariable to self-objectification. This study attempted to see whether there is a directcorrelation between body shame and eating disorders using meta-analysis procedure. Theanalysis of sampling error and measurement error made on 34 studies from 21 articles. Theresult of the analysis showed that body shame and eating disorder are strongly correlated(r=0.547) with α = 0.05.

Abstract

Intercultural marriages have an actual percentage increase in different countries over time. One of the things that should be observed in intercultural marriage is that in married couples in the same culture, we will discover the uniqueness of individual personality traits that become one of the determinants for individuals in adapting to marital relationships, whereas in intercultural marriage relationships, there are many differences in cultural values brought by both individuals from birth and on the one hand it is possible to contradict so that it can complicate the process of adaptation in marriage and increase the likelihood of conflict during the marriage from time to time. From the literature review, the emergence of conflict due to cultural differences can lead to marital dissatisfaction that can lead to the intention and decision to divorce. In view of the growing intercultural marriage trends in many countries over time, this paper will specifically review the potential for conflict due to cultural differences in intercultural marriages, and will also address individual aspects of cultural differences as a triggering factor conflicts in intercultural marriages, and conflict management models that will be determinants of intercultural marriage achievement to provide a discourse on how to manage conflicts appropriately so that intercultural partners can sustain their marriage well into the elderly. In general, the use of integrating and compromising models in managing conflict will maintain a harmonious relationship that supports the achievement of marital satisfaction in intercultural couples (Cheng, 2010).

It takes a different approach to gain insights and benefits from the phenomenon. In psychological science, the acquaintance of alternative methods to keep up with the problems should be a necessity. This article introduces two social media data analytical techniques, namely (i) sentiment analysis as the process of computationally identifying, extracting, and quantifying the effective condition towards a particular target, and (ii) social network analysis (SNA) as the process of investigating social structures through the use of Graph Theory dan Network Science. Abstract

Globalization that brings issues of equality and freedom further obscures the personal identity of Javanese. This can lead to the absence of coherence in the individuals that inhibits maturity and bring up negative experiences such as anxiety, depression, and confusion. In Javanese society, there are criteria of personal maturity. Based on the literature review, these characteristics include the existence of appreciation to God, the effort to maintain internal and external harmony, emphasis on roso, and the existence of awareness and control. These characteristics need to be maintained in Javanese to achieve maturity, either individually or integrated into the context of education, psychotherapy, leadership, and social change. This process of internalization and actualization of value is important as a part of a culture that has been tested for thousands of years as a guardian of the harmony, and also that it is relevant, important and capable of being applied in the era of globalization.
