This article will fill in the blanks on reference to quasi-experimental methods. The article explains quasi-experimental design or non-randomized experimental design. According to Campbell quasi experimental design is divided into four types, namely (a) quasi-experimental design without control group or pretest, b) quasi experimental design with control group and pretest, c) time series design, and d) regression discontinuity design. Each type was broken down into a more specific design.

Abstract

Islam once triumphed as a great civilization with two main characteristics: an appreciation of science as well as submission to the value of Tawheed. Unfortunately, at present these characteristics seem not to belong to Islam. Various measurement data show that Muslim-dominated countries such as Indonesia, have low values in higher-order thinking skills such as creative thinking and problem-solving. As a solution effort, this paper attempts to reintroduce the concept of critical thinking in the body of the current Muslim community. The effort begins by showing how important critical thinking is in Islam, the relevance of Islam and critical thinking and the adaptation of current research in the frame of Islamic Psychology. The main implication of this paper is the importance of seeing the significance of all researchers, both Muslim researchers and outside Muslims, in the process of Islamizing the concept.

Abstract

The study of literature was to aim of exploring the role of cool and hot executive functions (EF) on academic performance. It was consist of (a) what are they; (b) developmental hot and cool EF; and (c) The dynamic of hot and cool EF toward academic performance. This study of literature explores a distinction (and relationship, too) made within this general domain that has emerged only recently in the theoretical and empirical literature: cool and hot executive function. Cool executive functions were related to cognitive tasks (working memory, cognitive flexibility, inhibition control), and hot executive functions were related to emotion tasks (motivation, effective decision making, behavior). Both of them played an important role in academic performance. The implication of the literature study should be useful for teaching strategy in the classroom. Teachers need to create a good atmosphere, in particular, to stimulate positive emotions for learners

Case studies have been widely used in psychology, which is not only used in the context of research but it has different meanings. The purpose of this article is to provide a description of the case study as a research method, by providing an overview of the procedures for conducting research which includes when case studies can be used, research design, data collection, data validity, and data analysis. This article seeks to help emerging researchers in the field of psychology with several views from Robert Yin and Robert Stake. This article helps researchers to familiarize themselves with the procedures of qualitative research using case studies. A case study approach that is applied correctly can be a valuable method for conducting research, especially in the field of psychology as a means of developing theory, evaluating programs, developing interventions.

Abstract

The aim of this meta-analysis study is to figure out the true correlation between self-esteem and internet addiction. This meta-analysis uses 159 studies from 40 scientific articles from the year of 2005-2018 and involved in 120.825 participants. Correction for the two artifacts studied in this meta-analysis first is sampling error, and the second one is measurement error. The results support the hypothesis and show some similar findings whereas the true correlations from the groups confirm previous researches that self-esteem has a negative correlation to internet addiction. The strongest correlation found in adolescence group followed by men and women, all participant, also students and college students groups. However, these findings show that the internet accommodates individuals with negative self-esteem to build online social relationships and fulfilling their communication and pleasure needs and makes them easier committed to deviant behavior such as internet addiction.

Abstract

Vocational interest instruments are mostly based on verbal stimuli which require subjects’ reading ability. Another form of stimuli is needed for the populations that have reading difficulty. This article offers an explanation of using pictures as stimuli in the development of an instrument to assess adolescents’ vocational interest as well as the steps in developing pictorial stimuli. Compared to verbal, pictorial stimuli are closer to real life and have supporting information related to the activities. However, some limitation in using pictorial stimuli such as difficulty in describing hardly observable behavior and ambiguity of the pictures that can affect individual interpretation need to be considered.

Abstract

This review aimed to investigate the suitability of therapy derived from Cognitive-Behavioural perspective to be applied as an intervention to treat depressive symptoms in women with dating violence experiences. As this will become a preliminary study to be conducted in Indonesia, a review literature method was employed to gather relevant and up-to-date materials on the topic. Firstly, the issue of dating violence and its urgency in Indonesia were described in the introduction section. In the discussion section, Cognitive-Behavioural perspective and the therapy derived from it, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) was described and elaborated in detail. In general, CBT approach was effective in reducing depressive symptoms in women with intimate partner violence (IPV) experiences. As dating violence also belonged to IPV cluster, it is expected that CBT would also become an effective treatment to treat depression in women with dating violence experiences.

Abstract

Beliefs and goals in parenting are influenced by the expectations of society or local culture. Therefore, the measurement of parenting should be developed from a contextual perspective. The development of the measurement conducted inductively which started with the phase of indigenous concept exploration. The participants are parents living in a particular area, having a local ethnic identity, using local language and customs in their daily lives. The method of data collection is an interview or focus group discussion (FGD), with questions that refer to the parenting element according to Darling & Steinberg. Two alternative data analysis can be done; to obtain the construct at the level of parenting practice or construct at the level of parenting style. The construct then is developed into an instrument by following the scale development guidelines in which includes item writing, content validation, scale administration, and psychometric evaluation.
