Abstract

Morality is a fundamental aspect of human life, related to the good and bad of a person's behavior. Morality is also the embodiment of the perfection of one's faith when viewed from a religious perspective. Conceptually, morality is understood as a state of the soul that provides a strong drive, resulting in a variety of spontaneous actions. This research aims to analyze the moral values (akhlak) in the novel Lost in Ningxia: Assalamu’alaikum Beijing 2 by Asma Nadia. The study employs a qualitative approach using content analysis techniques. Data were collected through dialogue excerpts, narratives, and character actions, which were then classified into three categories: divine morality, individual human morality, and social human morality. The results indicate that these three moral values are integrally present throughout the plot. Divine morality is reflected through attitudes of sincerity (ikhlas), love, hope, and gratitude toward Allah. Individual human morality is evidenced by traits of modesty and optimism. Meanwhile, social human morality emerged as the most dominant category, demonstrated through compassion, honesty, and devotion to parents. This research is expected to contribute to literary studies by highlighting the dominance of social morality as a primary moral construct in contemporary Islamic novels.

Abstract

This research was conducted to analyze the influence of habitual social media use on the neglect of prayer obligations among students at Islamic-based universities in Banda Aceh. The phenomenon of automation in social media use has the potential to disrupt students' religious priorities. This study employs a quantitative approach with a survey method involving 107 respondents, obtained through non-probability sampling techniques. Data were analyzed using simple linear regression with the assistance of IBM SPSS 26. There is a significant positive relationship between habitual social media use and the neglect of prayer, as evidenced by a t-value of 6.646, which is greater than the t-table value of 1.982, with a significance of 0.000. The resulting regression equation is Y = 3.096 + 0.641X, where the constant value of 3.096 indicates the baseline level of neglect, while the regression coefficient of 0.641 confirms that every increase in habitual social media use will increase the neglect of prayer. The R-Square contribution of the social media habit variable reaches 29.6%, while the remaining 70.4% is influenced by other internal and external factors outside of this study. This research proves Robert LaRose's theory regarding deficient self-regulation, which shows that uncontrolled social media habits can weaken students' self-regulation in carrying out their prayer obligations.

Abstract

The The issuance of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) East Java Fatwa No. 06 of 2022 on the ethics of preaching in the digital age is based on the phenomenon of preaching in the digital age, which has undergone significant shifts. This has attracted the interest of researchers to explore further the correlation between this fatwa and Maqāṣid al-Sharī‘ah, whether the fatwa constitutes a restriction on religious expression. In this context, the Maqāṣid al-Sharī‘ah approach developed by Jasser Auda serves as the primary analytical tool to assess to what extent the fatwa reflects the objectives of Islamic law. The results of the study show that this fatwa represents Maqāṣid values such as Protection of Freedom of Belief (al-Huriyyah al-I’tiqod), Protection of Human Rights (Hifdz al-huquq al-Insan), Preservation of Reason (Hifz al-Aql), Honor (ḥifẓ al-‘ird), Family (ḥifẓ al-usrah), and Property (ḥifẓ al-māl). By emphasizing ethics, tolerance, and caution in delivering da'wah in the digital space, this fatwa not only safeguards the integrity of Islamic da'wah but also plays a role in building an inclusive, harmonious society that aligns with the fundamental values of Islam. Abstract

This research aims to analyze the phenomenon of digital discourse on platform X in the Amsal Sitepu case through the lens of Jürgen Habermas's Public Sphere theory. The criminalization of videographer Amsal Sitepu triggered massive debates that blurred the boundaries between rational-critical dialogue and emotional conflict arenas in cyberspace. Using a descriptive qualitative method and a critical discourse analysis approach, this study explores how platform X functions as a contemporary public sphere. The results show that although digital platforms are often trapped in opinion fragmentation, particularism, and affective conflict, the Amsal Sitepu case proves the existence of emancipatory potential through the "communicative power" of civil society. Organized public opinion pressure on social media proved capable of demanding institutional accountability and correcting the dominance of administrative power. This study concludes that social media can become an effective public sphere if the established discourse is able to transform from mere sentiment into logical and measured arguments.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the transformation of religious messages and authority in YouTube Shorts-based da’wah content as part of the broader phenomenon of digital religious communication. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design to explore in depth the discursive practices and meaning construction within digital spaces. Data were collected through non-participant observation of YouTube Shorts content, semi-structured interviews with digital da’wah creators and audiences, and documentation including content metadata and user interactions. Informants were selected using purposive and snowball sampling techniques based on relevance and level of engagement in producing or consuming religious content. The findings reveal four main themes: (1) simplification and fragmentation of religious messages due to time constraints, (2) the dominance of algorithms in shaping content visibility and structure, (3) the shift of religious authority from knowledge-based legitimacy to digital popularity, and (4) audience interactivity in constructing collective meaning through comment sections. These findings indicate that digital media not only functions as a medium of dissemination but also actively shapes how religious messages are produced, distributed, and interpreted. In conclusion, this study highlights that the transformation of religious communication in the digital era contributes theoretically to strengthening the concepts of digital religion and mediatization, while offering practical implications for adaptive yet substantive da’wah strategies. The study also recommends enhancing digital religious literacy and conducting further cross-platform research to deepen understanding of religious dynamics in the new media era.

Abstract

A sermon by Miftah Maulana, Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Indonesia for Religious Harmony and Development of Religious Facilities, who mocked an iced tea vendor named Sunhaji in November 2024, sparked widespread controversy in digital spaces. This study aims to analyze the actor-network formed in this case and examine how digital narratives shape public opinion and pressure. A qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical case study method was employed. Data were collected through a literature review of journal articles, national media reports, and public discussions on social media. Analysis was conducted using Actor-Network Theory (ANT) and Fisher's Narrative Paradigm. The findings reveal that social media functioned as the primary amplification medium, connecting human actors—Miftah, Sunhaji, and netizens—with non-human actors including viral videos, algorithms, and social norms. The solidarity narrative toward Sunhaji met the criteria of narrative coherence and fidelity, making it widely accepted by the public, while Miftah's clarification failed to generate moral resonance. This case confirms that in the digital era, public communication is not merely the transfer of information but a navigation of complex narrative networks. The theoretical implications reinforce the relevance of ANT and the narrative paradigm in analyzing digital communication phenomena, while emphasizing the importance of digital literacy and communication ethics for public officials.
