Abstract

Among students, social smoking is a behavior that is primarily carried out in social situations in order to be more accepted by the social environment. This study aims to examine the intention to quit smoking among students who are social smokers based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). This cross-sectional study involved 102 students in Indonesia aged 18–25 years. The TPB scale (α = .915) was used to measure predictors of intention, and the Smoking Cessation Intention scale (α = .883) was used to measure intention to quit smoking. The data in this study were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results of the data analysis showed that attitudes toward smoking cessation behavior (B = .263, SE =.109; p = .017) and subjective norms (B = .712, SE = .172, p <.001) significantly explained in smoking cessation intention (F(3,98) = 27.8, p < .001, R² = .460).

Abstract

The divorce rate among dual-earner couples in the early years of marriage has increased in Indonesia, partly due to unresolved conflicts. This study aims to examine the influence of sense of humor and emotional intelligence on conflict resolution among dual-earner couples. A quantitative correlational method was used with 135 participants (52 husbands and 83 wives) in Jombang who had been married for a maximum of 10 years. The instruments used were the Multidimensional Sense of Humor Scale, The Assessing Emotions Scale, and the Conflict Resolution PREPARE/ENRICH Customized Version. Multiple regression analysis showed that both variables had a significant simultaneous effect on conflict resolution. The greatest contribution was found in sense of humor, which had a negative effect on conflict resolution, while emotional intelligence was significant only among male participants. These findings highlight the importance of appropriate humor use and emotional regulation skills in strengthening marital relationships.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of social comparison on life satisfaction with self-esteem as a moderating variable among Generation Z in Banten Province. A total of 391 participants aged 18–28 years participated in a quantitative survey with a cross-sectional design. Instruments included SWLS, INCOM, and RSES. Data were analyzed using Moderated Regression Analysis (PROCESS Model 1). Results showed that social comparison had a significant negative effect on life satisfaction, while self-esteem had a significant positive effect. However, the interaction effect between social comparison and self-esteem was not significant (p = 0.869), indicating that self-esteem did not moderate their relationship. These findings suggest that life satisfaction among Gen Z is more strongly influenced by self-esteem directly rather than through its interaction with social comparison.

Abstract

The rise of digital technology has increased work-related stress, especially for remote workers who rely heavily on digital tools. This study aims to find out whether coping mechanism can help reduce the negative effects of technostress on employee well-being. The hypothesis suggests that while high technostress lowers well-being, effective coping can buffer this impact. This quantitative study involved 210 remote workers in Indonesia and used three main instruments: a technostress scale, a coping questionnaire, and an employee well-being scale. The results show that coping is not only positively related to well-being, but it also weakens the negative effect of technostress. These findings highlight how important it is for remote workers to have good coping mechanism, and how organizations should actively support them to stay mentally healthy in an increasingly digital work environment.

Abstract

This study measured academic stress levels and identified coping strategies among students at a senior high school in Surakarta City using a convergent parallel mixed-methods design. Quantitative data were collected from 130 students through the Student Life Stress Inventory (SLSI), while qualitative data were obtained from interviews with 1 guidance and counseling teacher and 4 students. The result shows that 23.1% students experience high stress. Qualitative findings reveal that uncertainty in choosing an academic specialization is the primary stressor, leading to cognitive, emotional, physical, and behavioral disturbances. Students address these challenges using emotion-focused coping, avoidance, distraction-based, peer social support, and problem-focused coping strategies. This study highlights the importance of developing interventions that enhance students’ adaptive stress-management capacities during the pre-specialization phase.

Abstract

This study highlights the importance of developing a contextually relevant Employee Value Proposition (EVP) measurement tool in Indonesia. Data was collected from 558 employees and analyzed using a quantitative approach through EFA and CFA with a split-sample strategy. The results revealed that EVP is a multidimensional construct comprising eight aspects, which are hierarchically structured into two overarching dimensions: internal and external. The second-order CFA demonstrated excellent model fit (CFI = .991; TLI = .988; SRMR = .016), with 22 items retained as valid and reliable indicators. These findings provide empirical evidence that EVP is a robust and relevant construct, while also broadening the literature on EVP in non-Western contexts. The study contributes to human resource management practices by offering a reliable framework for designing recruitment, retention, and employee engagement strategies tailored to organizational and employee needs.

Abstract

Children in orphanages face psychological problems in the form of low self-acceptance and future optimism. This study aimed to optimize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) by integrating the Javanese philosophy of Nrimo Ing Pandum. The method used was mixed-method approach through literature review, expert interviews, and quasi-experimental one-group pre-test post-test design using the Acceptance and Fusion Questionnaire for Youth (AFQ-Y). Preliminary findings showed alignment between the values of Nrimo Ing Pandum and ACT, including life acceptance, self-awareness, emotional regulation, and actions based on personal values. These values were developed into the PONDASI intervention handbook consisting of 6 sessions over 2 weeks. A trial involving 29 orphanage children showed a significant difference in AFQ-Y scores (t(28) = 4.05, p <.001, d = 0.75), indicating reduced experiential avoidance and potentially increased self-acceptance and optimism. These findings suggest that the intervention was effective and has potential as a culturally based psychological model.

Abstract

The death of a parent during adolescence can affect emotional, cognitive, and behavioral aspects, making it important to understand this experience in depth. This study explores the grief experiences of adolescents who have lost a parent, focusing on their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors related to the loss. A qualitative phenomenological approach was used through online semi-structured interviews with three participants aged 18–20 years, analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The findings identified seven themes: pre-loss experiences, loss event, post-loss emotional reactions, post-loss support, coping and adaptation, meaning-making of loss, and impact of loss. Scientifically, the study indicates that anticipatory grief does not necessarily foster mental preparedness, while strained past relationships may lead to reduced interest in activities after loss. Practically, these findings may guide school counselors and psychologists in designing adolescent grief support programs focused on processing distressing memories, strengthening family support, and fostering spiritual resilience.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has increased individuals’ connectedness to the online world, particularly among young people in Indonesia. This condition has given rise to the phenomenon of Online Vigilance, defined as the tendency to remain cognitively aware of, engaged with, and responsive to digital activities. The Online Vigilance Scale (OVS) is a primary instrument used to measure this phenomenon; however, an Indonesian version has not yet been available. This study aimed to adapt the OVS into Indonesian and to examine its validity and reliability within the Indonesian cultural context. The scale adaptation followed the standards and recommendations of the International Test Commission guidelines. The study involved 306 participants, predominantly aged 18-35. Participants were recruited using an accidental sampling technique. Reliability analysis indicated good internal consistency across all three OVS dimensions. The factor structure was tested using CFA and supported a three-dimensional model consistent with the original construct.
