Abstract

Compassion fatigue is the exhaustion experienced by nurses in response to stress resulting from exposure to the pain and trauma of patients. The job characteristics of hemodialysis nurses place them at risk of compassion fatigue. The purpose of this research is to examine whether self-compassion influences compassion fatigue in hemodialysis nurses . This study was conducted on 73 hemodialysis nurses. The instruments used were the Self-Compassion Scale by Neff and the Professional Quality of Life Scale version 5 by Stamm. Data were analyzed using simple linear regression analysis for two aspects of compassion fatigue: burnout and secondary traumatic stress. The results of the study indicate that self-compassion has a significant negative impact on burnout and secondary traumatic stress. In other words, high self-compassion can predict low levels of burnout and secondary traumatic stress among hemodialysis nurses.

Abstract

Cyberchondria is defined as excessive or repeated search for health-related information on the internet that results in distress and/or anxiety. However, it remains unclear whether health anxiety triggers excessive search for health information on the Internet and whether such anxiety arises after excessive searches. A narrative literature review was conducted to summarize and analyze research related to health anxiety and cyberchondria. The results revealed a moderate to high relationship between health anxiety and cyberchondria. However, this reciprocal relationship could not be found in the subsample of clinically anxious individuals. Thus, cyberchondria may also be explained as a phenomenon that may appear in individuals with non-clinical levels of health anxiety, rather than as a characteristic of clinically health anxious individuals. Therefore, further empirical research is required to explore the relationship and influence of health anxiety on cyberchondria in more specific samples.

Feminine men experience a lot of pressure from society, such as bullying and exclusion, in the hope that they will follow the prevailing gender norms. This becomes a pressure in itself and has an impact on their psychological dynamics. This article was written with the aim of studying the impact of bullying on feminine men. This article was prepared using the scoping review method based on previous research sourced from Google Scholar published between 2014 – 2023. The results of the analysis of 5 literature revealed that feminine men experience psychological impact on the emotional aspects: sense of insecurity, anxiety, feeling lonely, as well as feeling unhappy. Emotional aspects affect cognitive and behavioral aspects: decreased self-esteem, decreased academic ability, and decreased social functions such as helplessness, withdrawal and decreased social competence. The implications of the research are to build an inclusive environment, instill empathy and respect for differences, create anti-bullying programs and support victims of bullying.
