Abstract

The study aims to comprehensively analyze Sustainable Development in South Asia while look into the trade dynamics between Pakistan and its neighboring countries. Exploring different regional trade arrangements can help with understanding the influence of different markets and unions on trade in South Asia. Regional trading blocks are heavily impacted by static and dynamic economic effects. The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and initiatives like the South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) are examined for their potential to enhance regional trade. The paper also delves into the impact of non-economic factors with regard to South Asia. Pakistan and India are two very important countries in South Asia, however both countries are yet to work towards practical solutions of the existing stand-offs between them. The results show that this can be done by the entrepreneurs of the two countries with paper support from their governments, institutions and international trade bodies, so that the two countries can lead a brighter future without any conflicts.

Abstract

Poor waste management practices constitute a serious environmental crisis in both rural and urban centers in Nigeria. Hence ecologically conscious Nigerian literary writers have resorted to the instrumentality of art to interrogate the menace and sensitize the people on the expediency of proper waste management for environmental sustainability. This study analyses how Bode Sowande, in his play Mammy Water's Wedding, enacts the crisis of water pollution in a typical Nigerian society. Representative excerpts that thematically probe the environmental crisis in the play were purposively selected for qualitative analysis. The study applies Virdis’ (2022) Ecostylistics theoretical framework to analyse the stylistic markers of depicting the decrying the ecosophy of human ecologically hostile behaviour, while advocating the coveted ecosophy of nurturing and protecting the non-human species in the environment. The study reveals that deep-seated poor environmental attitudes exhibited by the defaulting characters are mainly borne out of ignorance and individualistic tendencies which fester the disconnection between humans and the physical world. It also underlines the need for an aggressive advocacy for environmental sustainability to engender harmonious relationships between humans and the environment in Nigerian society.

Abstract

Social media influencers (SMIs) have become increasingly influential in digital marketing, serving as key intermediaries between businesses and their target audiences. Despite their significant investments in time and resources to create engaging content, many SMIs struggle to maintain their follower base, often due to perceived deficiencies in source credibility. The link between SMIs’ credibility and followers’ sharing intention on food-related content among Malaysian youth is particularly under-examined. This study aims to bridge this gap by applying source credibility theory to examine how SMIs’ perceived credibility influences followers’ sharing intentions. The theory argues that how people think of communicators’ expertise and trustworthiness significantly influences individuals’ attitudes toward the source. Thus, by employing a quantitative approach through regression analysis, the study collected data via probability sampling with random respondent selection. The results indicate that perceived attractiveness is the best predictor of followers’ sharing intention on food-related content, overtaking both expertise and trustworthiness. These findings offer valuable insights for crafting more effective social media strategies that enhance engagement by focusing on the credibility aspects most valued by followers in the context of food content.

Abstract

In this world of uncertainties and challenges, mental well-being of youth is crucial. Experiential arts and theatre-based techniques have enormous potential to improve mental health and have profound therapeutic benefits. To explore and evaluate the impact and efficacy of various art and theatre-based interventions used solely to promote young people's positive mental health and well-being. Peer-reviewed reports published between 2002 and 2022, identified from databases such as PubMed, Ovid, Google Scholar, and ERIC, were used to collate and gather ideas on arts and theatre-based interventions for positive mental health and well-being in young people. From the 623 identified reports, a total of nine studies were identified. Arts-based interventions implemented in schools, community centers, and healthcare settings showed promising results in the mental well-being of young people. The outcomes evaluated were alleviation of symptoms, better emotional well-being, self-expression, improved self-esteem, and coping abilities. The findings of this scoping review suggest that art and theatre-based interventions can potentially improve young people's mental health. The wide range of interventions and results explores these techniques, the domains targeted, and their adaptability and efficacy suggest that they are far better than the other approaches.

Abstract

Due to the rising pressure from population growth and environmental crises induced by anthropogenic food production activities, the production and consumption of insects have been promoted internationally. The current paper discusses the nutritional and environmental benefits of insect consumption and the socio-cultural and psychological factors that constrain such a habit on an international scale. Then, some historical and cultural information regarding insect consumption in Vietnam is provided to highlight the potential of insect consumption standardization. Unlike those in Western societies, where people exhibit significant psychological resistance to the idea of consuming insects as food, Vietnam has a longstanding tradition of entomophagy that can be traced back to Hoabinhian culture from 20,000 to 7,000 years BP, resulting in far less resistance to this practice. Despite the lack of research on entomophagy, its practice had an early scientific foundation at the beginning of the 20th century thanks to the early contribution of Nguyen Cong Tieu, a leading Vietnamese agriculture scientist since the French domination period (1884-1945). Nevertheless, insects are commonly viewed as street food or regional specialties but not dietary food, and the perception that insects are “poor man’s diet” persists, which can hinder the standardization of insect consumption within Vietnamese society. To capitalize on the nutritional sources from insects, we suggest that insect-eating should be embraced as an expression of progressive culture for environmental sustainability, and more interdisciplinary research in emerging countries, like Vietnam, could be conducted for the sake of good.

Abstract

The importance of economic growth in stimulating the overall production of goods and services cannot be overemphasized. The tourism sector and remittance inflow have been found to be relevant factors in explaining Nigeria's economic growth dynamics. To this end, this study focuses on investigating the effects of tourism and remittance on economic growth in Nigeria. The present study is different from the existing studies in two ways. First, this study employed the ordinary least square technique and dataset from 1981 to 2021. Second, our study adopted two variables: personal remittances and number of tourism arrivals. These variables were used to measure remittance inflow and tourism. The study revealed that tourism and remittance inflow are positive and significantly impact economic growth in Nigeria. This suggests that tourism and remittance inflow offer important channels for promoting economic growth. Hence, the policy recommendations from this study are based on our findings.

Abstract

This study explores the typological and sacred narrative traditions within Islamic literature, particularly focusing on Qur'anic and quasi-Qur'anic narratives. Using folkloristic methodologies, the research examines various folk genres, including fantasy, humorous, didactic, and belief narratives, and their structural components such as form, style, and content. The paper highlights how these narratives function within the broader social and cultural context of the Arab world, influencing worldview formation and socialization processes. Key analytical tools such as the tale-type and motif classification are employed to dissect narrative components, offering a deeper understanding of the interrelationship between religious texts and folk traditions. By analyzing these narrative forms, the study provides insights into how sacred narratives shape societal attitudes and behaviors, often embedding moral and religious lessons within everyday storytelling. The findings emphasize the enduring role of sacred texts in shaping collective identity and cultural expression, demonstrating the complex interplay between formal religious doctrine and popular narrative forms. This approach not only aids in understanding the transmission of cultural values but also reveals the adaptive nature of sacred narratives as they intersect with folk traditions across different historical and social contexts.

Abstract

Effective monitoring of groundwater resources is crucial in the context of changing global climate conditions. In the Punjab Province of Pakistan, groundwater monitoring is currently ongoing under the Punjab Irrigation Department; however, this faces challenges in precise monitoring due to reliance on conventional methodologies and insufficient community participation. For holistic and scientific monitoring of groundwater, a project entitled “Improving groundwater management to enhance agriculture and farming livelihoods in Pakistan,” funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), has been implemented- nearing completion- at pilot sites in Punjab province along with other two provinces.  Automatic data loggers have been installed in the pilot study sites within the Lower Bari Doab Canal (LBDC) region to get continuous records of groundwater levels and quality. Onsite training and awareness sessions have been arranged to involve and sensitize local communities about changing trends of groundwater levels and quality. This paper provides an overview of the existing monitoring network in the Punjab province of Pakistan, the limitations of the current system, and the innovative enhancements introduced through the ACIAR project. It has been observed that groundwater level has dropped significantly in the study area due to over-exploitation.
