Abstract

Previous research has shown a predominance of male students in the use of information and communication technology (ICT) for academic purposes. However, there are cases where female students are starting to outpace their male counterparts, albeit moderately. This study investigates how to understand inclusion policies aimed at narrowing the gender digital divide (GDD) in ICT use among male and female students in the peri-urban regions of India. A total of 312 postgraduate students (157 males and 155 females) were interviewed using the "Raosoft" scale, selected from a population of 1,652 students across various departments at a peri-urban higher education institution in West Bengal, India. The research findings reveal differences in the ownership of digital devices, ICT practices, access, usage frequency, motivational factors, and barriers faced by each gender. This study distinguishes between first- and second-order gender digital divides related to beliefs about digital control, and it proposes solutions for promoting gender inclusivity in higher education learning. The findings may provide guidance for formulating policies aimed at enhancing gender inclusivity in the use of digital technologies within higher education teaching and learning processes, particularly in developing countries and peri-urban areas.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of GDP growth, inflation, and the BI rate on the profitability of Islamic banks in Indonesia, measured through Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE). With the growing importance of Islamic banking in supporting sustainable economic development, understanding how macroeconomic variables influence its profitability is essential. The research aims to identify the individual and collective effects of these variables, contributing to the strategic adaptation of Islamic banks within Indonesia’s dual banking system. A quantitative approach was employed, utilizing secondary data from publicly available financial reports of Islamic banks and macroeconomic statistics from 2007 to 2017. Multiple regression analysis was applied to assess the relationships between macroeconomic variables (GDP growth, inflation, BI rate) and profitability indicators (ROA and ROE), supported by diagnostic tests to ensure statistical reliability. The findings reveal that GDP growth significantly enhances profitability by fostering economic expansion, increased savings, and greater demand for Sharia-compliant financial services. Inflation exhibits a dual impact: moderate inflation improves profitability through higher nominal returns, while high inflation negatively affects performance due to rising costs. The BI rate negatively influences profitability, as higher rates drive deposit shifts to conventional banks. Collectively, these variables demonstrate a complex interplay, with GDP growth emerging as the most critical factor. The study highlights the resilience of Islamic banks during economic fluctuations and underscores their alignment with sustainable development principles. These findings have practical implications for policymakers and practitioners, emphasizing the need for balanced economic policies and adaptive strategies to enhance the profitability and competitiveness of Islamic banks.

Abstract

Efforts to integrate climate resilience into public services are evident in Kerala's developmental landscape. While climate and disaster risk-informed project planning and implementation are integral components of public service delivery in the region, climate and environmental concerns are often overlooked in the realm of politics in Kerala. Local governments in Kerala play a central role in ensuring the scalability and sustainability of climate-resilient initiatives. By integrating climate considerations into decision-making processes, Kerala's public sector workforce fosters eco-friendly attitudes by incorporating digital public goods and e-governance in mainstreaming local service delivery, thereby contributing to broader climate action efforts. This paper critically examines the local climate-resilient activities as forms of 'public services', emphasizing digital public goods. While the rhetoric is that there is a Kerala model of participatory local climate governance that prioritizes environmental concerns, the reality is far from different.

Abstract

In the context of Islamic banks, profitability is shaped by Sharia-compliant practices, which emphasize ethical finance and risk-sharing. While financial ratios such as Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR), and Operational Expenses to Operational Revenue Ratio (BOPO) are commonly used to assess profitability, their combined effects remain underexplored in Indonesian Islamic banking. This study examines the individual and collective impacts of CAR, FDR, and BOPO on the profit growth of Indonesian Islamic banks between 2015 and 2017. It seeks to identify key determinants of profitability and provide actionable insights for optimizing financial performance. Using a quantitative approach, the study analyzes secondary financial data from seven Islamic banks registered with Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority. Multiple linear regression was employed to evaluate the relationships between the independent variables (CAR, FDR, BOPO) and the dependent variable (profit growth). Descriptive statistics and diagnostic tests ensured the validity and reliability of the findings. The findings reveal that FDR significantly impacts profit growth, highlighting the importance of efficient liquidity utilization. BOPO has a significant negative effect, underscoring the critical role of operational efficiency in shaping profitability. In contrast, CAR has a negative but statistically insignificant impact on profit growth, suggesting that capital adequacy enhances stability but does not directly drive profitability. The results emphasize the need for Islamic banks to optimize financing activities, reduce operational inefficiencies, and strategically allocate capital to income-generating projects. Policymakers should consider supporting these efforts through tailored regulatory frameworks and incentives for technological adoption to enhance efficiency.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of Cash Waqf Linked Sukuk (CWLS) SW001 as a tool for integrating Islamic social finance with modern investment practices. CWLS SW001 represents a transformative approach to mobilizing waqf funds, addressing socio-economic challenges, and adhering to Maqashid Shariah principles. The primary objective of the research is to evaluate the sukuk’s operational framework, its alignment with Islamic ethical principles, and its socio-economic contributions, particularly in the healthcare sector. Using a qualitative descriptive methodology, this study examines secondary data, including official reports and academic literature, to assess CWLS SW001’s mechanisms and impacts. The analysis is structured around Maqashid Shariah, focusing on objectives such as protecting life (hifdz an-nafs) and wealth (hifdz al-mal). The findings reveal that CWLS SW001 effectively channels waqf funds into productive and socially impactful projects, such as constructing a retina center and free cataract surgeries for underprivileged individuals. The sukuk’s operational model ensures transparency, financial sustainability, and compliance with Islamic principles. Despite its success, challenges remain, including limited public awareness and regulatory barriers hindering broader adoption and scalability. This study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on Islamic finance by demonstrating the potential of CWLS to address contemporary socio-economic issues. It highlights the need for strategic interventions, including enhanced literacy campaigns and regulatory reforms, to optimize the instrument’s impact and expand its applications across diverse sectors. The research underscores CWLS’s role as a replicable model for innovative and ethical financial practices.

Abstract

Education for children with special needs is crucial to support their self-confidence in following an educational path according to their intellectual abilities. This research began with a problem found at SLB Negeri 1 Padang Panjang, where teachers were still using general textbooks to teach children with intellectual disabilities. In contrast, teachers should use specialized teaching guides for children with special needs. This study aims to explore Islamic Religious Education (PAI) for children with intellectual disabilities at SLB Negeri 1 Padang Panjang. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative research. This research was conducted at SLB Negeri 1 Padang Panjang, using data collection methods including observation, interviews, and documentation. The analysis technique used involves data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. To ensure the validity of the data, perseverance and triangulation were employed. The research results show that Islamic religious education for children with intellectual disabilities at SLB Negeri 1 Padang Panjang is quite effective. Before conducting the lessons, teachers adjust the material to the students' abilities. The teaching methods the teachers use include lectures, question-and-answer, and practice exercises. The obstacles in the learning process include a lack of support from some parents. At the same time, the supporting factors are the guidance and good cooperation between most parents and the school.

Abstract

Empirical studies on teacher-student relationships (TSR) in both EFL and non-EFL contexts have been extensively explored. However, limited attention has been given to the role of human behavioral dimensions within classroom TSR practices. This study examines the specific human behavioral dimensions an Indonesian EFL teacher utilizes to foster TSR in her classroom. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews using a qualitative research approach. The findings reveal that agency-related behaviors are less aligned with the teacher's interactions with students, whereas communion-related behaviors are more reflective of her classroom practices. These results suggest that Indonesian EFL teachers cultivate community in the classroom, emphasizing strong, positive relationships with their students.

Abstract

The role of Islamic banking in fostering economic growth has gained increasing attention, particularly in emerging markets such as Indonesia. Sharia Commercial Banks, through their key components of third-party funds, total assets, and total financing, are considered instrumental in contributing to regional economic development. However, the specific impacts of these components on Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) remain underexplored, particularly at the provincial level. This study aims to analyze the influence of third-party funds, total assets, and total financing of Sharia Commercial Banks on GRDP in Indonesia during the 2018–2022 period, including the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The research seeks to uncover both individual and combined impacts of these variables and to identify regional disparities in their effectiveness. A quantitative research design was employed using panel data from Indonesia’s provinces. The study utilized regression analysis with the Fixed Effect Model, supported by diagnostic tests to ensure robustness. Data sources included annual financial reports from Sharia Commercial Banks and official statistics from Indonesia's Financial Services Authority and Statistics Indonesia. The findings reveal that total financing significantly impacts GRDP, underscoring its critical role in economic development. In contrast, third-party funds and total assets show limited direct influence but contribute significantly when combined with financing. Regional disparities are evident, with developed provinces benefiting more substantially from Sharia banking activities. The COVID-19 pandemic temporarily disrupted these dynamics, highlighting the need for financial resilience. The study emphasizes the importance of targeted financing, optimized asset deployment, and enhanced financial inclusion to maximize the contributions of Sharia Commercial Banks to regional economic growth. It also underscores the need for region-specific strategies to address disparities and foster inclusive development.

Abstract

Health workers are under high pressure to carry out their work. This results in physical and mental fatigue. One is the non-achievement of psychological well-being and decreased performance in health services. To overcome the decline in psychological well-being, complementary therapy in the form of Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT) is needed. SEFT is a therapy that combines psychological energy and spiritual power by using a tool in the form of tapping on the body. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of SEFT therapy in improving the psychological well-being of health workers. This study used an experimental design, a Non-randomized Control Group Pretest-Posttest Design involving 30 health workers. The results showed that the experimental group who received SEFT intervention experienced increased psychological well-being compared to the control group who did not receive intervention treatment. Based on the results of the Wilcoxon test for pre-test and post-test in the experimental group, it can be concluded that SEFT is effective for improving the psychological well-being of health workers. Other variables such as personality, age, and environment are recommended to be controlled in future studies.
