Abstract

This article examines approaches for advancing Islamic Religious Education (IRE) in higher education, centered on the principle of rahmatan lil 'alamin (mercy to all creation). It underscores the critical role of embedding values such as moderation, tolerance, social justice, and compassion within a curricular framework. Employing a qualitative literature review methodology, the study elucidates the foundational tenets of rahmatan lil 'alamin, identifies systemic barriers to its application, and advances actionable approaches for its pedagogical integration. Findings reveal that systematically incorporating these values into IRE can foster inclusive, moderate, and globally conscious students. Nevertheless, persisting challenges impede progress, including institutional resistance to curricular reform, educators’ limited grasp of the concept’s nuances, and sociopolitical pressures shaping policy. To mitigate these issues, the article recommends modernizing curricula to align with evolving societal demands, enhancing educators’ pedagogical capacities through targeted professional development, and fortifying institutional frameworks to reinforce value-based education. By pursuing these approaches, Islamic education can address contemporary global challenges and nurture a generation dedicated to peace and universal welfare, thereby enriching academic discourse on reimagining religious education for the modern era.

Abstract

This study explores the consumption behaviors of fans of Korean culture among the 2020 cohort of Islamic Economics students at IAIN Metro, with a focus on their alignment with Al-Ghazali’s principles of ethical consumption. As global cultural phenomena like the Korean Wave (Hallyu) shape consumer behaviors, this research examines how these influences interact with Islamic ethical frameworks, particularly in prioritizing needs, practicing moderation, and promoting social responsibility. The study aims to provide insights into the ethical dilemmas posed by fan-driven consumerism in a globalized context. Using a qualitative field research approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews and observations of ten purposively sampled participants. These students, active consumers of Korean cultural products, provided detailed accounts of their spending patterns, motivations, and ethical considerations. The analysis employed thematic coding and triangulation to ensure depth and validity. The findings reveal significant misalignments with Islamic ethical principles. Participants frequently prioritized desires over necessities, exhibited patterns of excessive spending (israf), and showed limited engagement with social responsibilities such as charitable giving. Emotional attachment to fandoms, peer influence, and cultural aspirations were identified as key drivers of these behaviors. While participants demonstrated awareness of Islamic principles, external pressures often outweighed ethical considerations. This study underscores the challenges young Muslims face in balancing global cultural influences with Islamic ethics. It contributes to the discourse on ethical consumption by integrating classical Islamic frameworks with modern consumer dynamics, offering actionable insights for educators and policymakers to promote responsible consumption. Future research should expand the scope to include diverse demographics and explore the role of digital media in shaping consumer behaviors.

Abstract

This study explores how monetary policy influences credit growth and deposit mobilization in Iraqi commercial banks. It looks at how central banks use tools like interest rates, reserve requirements, and open market operations to control credit availability and attract deposits. In Iraq’s developing economy, where oil plays a key role, these policies are especially important. However, the banking sector in Iraq faces several challenges, including vulnerability to external factors and the presence of informal financial systems. This research aims to provide a clear understanding of how monetary policy has functioned over time and how it could contribute to greater economic stability and growth. The findings suggest that while monetary policy can have a strong impact on credit and deposit activity, its full potential is often limited by weaknesses in the banking system.

Abstract

The Russia-Ukraine conflict has garnered significant attention due to its geopolitical ramifications. By employing a pair conditional BEKK model and including multiple major exchange rates, this research aims to provide a robust assessment of the spillover effects and their significance in the context of the ongoing conflict. To accomplish this, weekly data from June 6, 2022, to July 7, 2023 was analyzed. Additional tests involving cointegration and Block Exogeneity Wald Tests were integrated to provide a nuanced approach distinct from prior-related examinations. The study shows positive bi-directional safe haven trends between EUR-USD, EUR-GBP and EUR-RUB. Along similar lines, the Euro’s value against the Russian ruble was impacted by 283.356 in a significant positive and cointegrated manner. It was reported that simultaneous negative shocks between EUR-CHF, EUR-GBP and EUR-RUB boost each currency pair’s covariance in the next period. The study further uncovered that negative shocks in either EUR-USD or EUR-CHF exchange markets significantly increase the covariance between the two exchange markets. Accordingly, the study concludes that changes in EUR-USD, EUR-GBP, EUR-CHF and EUR-RUB currency demand during the Russian-Ukraine conflict reflect investors’ safer assets/haven seeking behaviour. Geopolitical events can significantly impact financial markets, and understanding the specific effects on exchange rates is crucial for policymakers, investors, and businesses. The relevancy of financial market regulation, economic policy coordination, monetary policy adjustments, exchange rate stability and capital flows and investment policy implications cannot be overruled in this regard. International cooperation and coordination may be necessary to manage potential systemic risks.

Abstract

This study explores the integration of Islamic educational values into the empowerment of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises at Masjid Jogokariyan and examines its relevance to mosque prosperity. Recognizing the mosque as a central institution in Islamic civilization—not only spiritually but also socially and economically—this research seeks to understand how values such as honesty, trust, responsibility, independence, and cooperation are internalized within community-based economic development. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected through interviews, participant observation, and document analysis to uncover the lived experiences of mosque leaders and local entrepreneurs. The findings reveal that Masjid Jogokariyan has effectively cultivated an Islamic ethical business culture by embedding spiritual teachings into practical training, promoting transparent financial management, and encouraging inclusive participation through community-driven leadership models. The mosque utilizes structured initiatives such as value-based mentoring, interest-free loan schemes, and “Business Qur’an Circles” to enhance both personal development and economic resilience among participants. These efforts have not only improved the livelihood of local residents but also strengthened congregational engagement, with a significant rise in mosque attendance and communal trust. The empowerment of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises has thus become a catalyst for broader mosque prosperity, affirming its role as a dynamic center of learning, service, and transformation. This research underscores the importance of reviving mosque-based Islamic education as a foundation for sustainable community empowerment in contemporary Muslim societies.

Abstract

This study examined undergraduate perceptions of the effect of drug abuse on students' academic performance at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Guided by two research objectives and two hypotheses, the study adopted a cross-sectional survey design, utilizing multi-stage random sampling to select 200 respondents. Data was collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS. The findings revealed that drug abuse negatively affected students' academic engagement; some students reported that drug use initially enhanced alertness, but it eventually led to a decline in academic performance due to absenteeism, poor time management, and reduced participation in group activities. Given these findings, it was recommended that universities implement stricter anti-drug policies alongside awareness campaigns highlighting the academic risks of substance abuse. Counseling services should be strengthened to support students struggling with drug-related challenges, and peer mentorship programs should be introduced to promote positive academic behaviors and discourage substance abuse.
