Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This article aims to construct a methodological framework for researching oral Quranic exegesis in Indonesia and to apply it to the oral interpretations of Muhammad Sya’roni Ahmadi. The study employs a library research method, utilizing literature regarding the methodology of Quranic exegesis in Indonesia and the specific interpretations of Muhammad Sya’roni Ahmadi. The findings indicate that oral exegesis can be analyzed through several methodological aspects: the exegetical method, the exegetical orientation (laun), the systematic structure and form of presentation, the delivery style, the publication platform, and the social identity of the exegete. Furthermore, the substance of oral exegesis can be examined through the characteristics of orality, tanzīlī analysis, and discourse analysis. Muhammad Sya’roni Ahmadi’s interpretation of Surah Al-Mumtahanah [60]: 8–9 exhibits characteristics of orality through the use of the Javanese language and the inclusion of stories involving Raden Rahmat, Raden Patah, and King Brawijaya to foster a sense of closeness with the audience. These stories demonstrate a tanzīl dynamic that is both taṣrīḥ (explicit) and kullī (holistic), while simultaneously conveying a message for Muslims to adopt a friendly attitude toward non-Muslims.

Abstract

This article examines the differences in qirā’āt within taṣrīf al-af‘āl (verbal morphology) and their implications for the construction of Qur’anic interpretation in both theological and juridical domains. This study is motivated by the academic problem that qirā’āt studies have often been reduced to a merely phonetic discipline, with limited exploration of their exegetical implications. This research employs a qualitative approach using library research methods and descriptive-comparative analysis of Qur’anic verses that exhibit variations in verbal forms. The findings reveal that differences in taṣrīf al-af‘āl—including variations in ṣīghah (verbal forms), wazan (patterns), bina’ (voice), and pronouns—extend beyond linguistic aspects and significantly influence the construction of theological meanings and the formulation of Islamic legal rulings. This article argues that qirā’āt function as an internal hermeneutical mechanism of the Qur’an, enriching and expanding meaning without generating contradiction

Abstract

This study aims to uncover the principles of Qur'anic business through an examination of buying and selling verses in the Quran, utilizing the perspective of Tafsir al-Munir by Wahbah al-Zuhaili. The core issue addressed is the understanding of ethical business principles in Islam as contained in the Quran, particularly in the context of buying and selling transactions. The problem-solving method employed is a thorough analysis of Quranic verses related to buying and selling, as explained in Tafsir al-Munir. The study finds that in buying and selling transactions, the Quran emphasizes justice, prohibits usury, emphasizes mutually agreed-upon transactions, and underscores the ethics of trading. The Qur'anic business principles, when analyzed through Tafsir al-Munir, provide a strong foundation for fair, transparent, and ethical business practices in Islam. The emphasis on justice emphasizes the need to consider the interests of all parties in transactions. The prohibition of usury indicates the importance of avoiding practices that harm others. Mutually agreed-upon transactions emphasize transparency and voluntary agreements. Ethics in trading underscores the need to maintain honesty, trustworthiness, and the quality of goods traded. The conclusion drawn from this study is that understanding and implementing Qur'anic business principles in modern business practices can bring significant benefits, not only to the businesses themselves but also to society at large. This study makes a significant contribution to understanding how Islamic principles can be applied in modern business practices to achieve sustainable goals and benefit society at large.

Abstract

The study of Qira'at in Nusantara interpretation shows a unique methodological dynamic, especially in the use of qira'at sab'ah to enrich the meaning of verses. This article examines the implications of farsy al-Huruf in QS. al-A'raf as interpreted in Tafsir Marah Labid by Nawawi al-Bantani. This research uses qualitative literature-based study with comparative descriptive analysis of variations of qira'at sab'ah also using the discipline of Taujih al-Qira'at Science. The results show that Nawawi does not only refer to qira'at as philological data, but uses it as a hermeneutical instrument to expand the spectrum of meaning, syntactic structure, and strengthen theological and legal aspects in verses. This finding confirms that the Nusantara interpretation tradition has a close relationship with the authority of classical qira'at science, while also showing the methodological depth of Nusantara scholars' interpretation.

Abstract

This study examines the challenges of interpreting Islamic inheritance law, particularly Surah An-Nisa verse 11, amidst the demands of modern gender justice. The classical interpretation that considers the 2:1 proportion (male:female) as an absolute provision is considered no longer relevant due to the transformation of women's roles, who are now also active as the backbone of the economy. To respond to this dilemma, this thesis analyzes the perspective of the contemporary Muslim thinker, Muhammad Syahrur. Syahrur interprets the inheritance verses using the concepts of al-hadd al-adna (minimal limit) and al-hadd al-a'la (maximum limit). According to Syahrur, the 2:1 provision is the minimum limit (33.33%) that women must receive, allowing society to provide more, even equal inheritance rights, if in accordance with the principles of justice and welfare. Conversely, 2:1 is also the maximum limit (66.67%) for men. This dynamic approach positions the Quranic text as an adaptive ethical guide, providing a coherent solution between the authority of revelation and the needs of contemporary gender justice.

Abstract

This research stems from an academic problem surrounding the authenticity of hadith, which has sparked a heated debate between Islamic epistemology and modern Western epistemology. In Islamic tradition, hadith is believed to have absolute validity, which is maintained through the sanad system as a scientific and spiritual mechanism to ensure the continuity of truth from the Prophet to the ummah. Conversely, Western scholars view sanad as a socio-historical construct formed retrospectively to legitimize certain religious authorities, thus raising doubts about the authenticity of hadith. This study aims to critically analyze how the construction of sanad influences the assessment of hadith authenticity by comparing Muslim and Western epistemological frameworks. The method used is a qualitative approach with comparative-analytical library research of classical and modern works, both from hadith scholars and Orientalists. The results show that the construction of sanad is not only a historical tool for tracing transmission, but also an epistemic foundation that confirms the authority of revelation in the Islamic tradition. Thus, this study confirms that the authenticity of hadith can only be fully assessed if the sanad system is understood in the context of Islamic epistemology, which is oriented towards transcendental truth, rather than merely historical validity as in the Western perspective

Abstract

This article analyzes the concept of leadership justice in the Qur’an through Ibn ‘Āshūr’s maqāṣid al-Qur’ān approach. The main focus of this study is to examine how the value of justice is emphasized in three key verses, namely QS. al-Nisā’ [4]: 58, QS. Ṣād [38]: 26, and QS. al-Baqarah [2]: 124, and how these verses are understood through Qur’anic objectives such as tahdhīb al-akhlāq, siyāsat al-ummah, al-tashrī‘, and iṣlāḥ al-i‘tiqād. This study employs a qualitative library research method with a thematic-maqāṣidī analysis to identify the multilayered structure of meaning in leadership justice, encompassing moral, political, legal, and theological dimensions. The findings show that the Qur’an constructs the concept of just leadership through three main principles: trustworthiness, objectivity in judgment, and the prohibition of following personal desire. The maqāṣid approach reveals that leadership justice is not merely an ethical demand, but a Qur’anic objective aimed at establishing social stability, political integrity, and the moral maturity of society. This study affirms that leadership justice serves as a foundation of civilization and a key instrument for preventing social disorder and the abuse of power.

Abstract

This paper re-examines the hadith concerning female leadership through a contextualization process based on Jasser Auda’s maqashid al-shariah, aiming to discover a meaning relevant to contemporary society. The study focuses on the hadith regarding the misfortune of a people who entrust their affairs to a woman a text often interpreted literally, resulting in normative restrictions that do not always align with current socio-political realities. Employing a literature review methodology, the research analyzes relevant texts using the maqashid approach, which offers an evaluative framework prioritizing justice, human dignity, and public interest as benchmarks for assessing the suitability of an interpretation. The article demonstrates that a literal interpretation fails to meet the teleological demands of maqashid, particularly when such an interpretation potentially hinders beneficial social and political participation. The analysis reveals that a contextual reading focused on achieving public interest provides a stronger normative foundation while maintaining respect for traditional sources. Ultimately, the paper asserts that the maqashid approach serves as a hermeneutic bridge connecting textual authority with the needs of contemporary society, thereby creating space for the construction of Islamic law that is more just, inclusive, and consistent with the fundamental principles of Sharia.
