Abstract

This type of research is descriptive qualitative which aims to determine the influence of parents’ involvement to students achievement in English learning at SMPN 9 Pinrang. Data acquisition by conducting interviews with parents by asking eight questions. In this study, the research subjects were parents of eight class at SMPN 9 Pinrang whose samples was used a purposive sampling technique with the characteristics of the informants parents’ educational background, type of parents’ job, and number of family members. This study was shown by four components of the influence of parents’ involvement, namely: (1) parents as caregivers and educators (2) parents as advisors (3) parents as motivators (4) parents as facilitators.The results of this study the researcher found the influence of parents’ involvement on student achievement, namely parents as educators and caregivers, parents as advisors, parents as motivators and parents as facilitators. By conducting interviews with parents of students and seeing the value of knowledge and values ​​of students' attitudes in English learning.

Abstract

This research deals with a reading focused on analysis of the students competence in predicting pictures on reading descriptive text particularly in describe the object. The level of students analyzed is the XI Grade at SMA Negeri 1 Barru.This research used a descriptive quantitative method. The population of this research was  grade XI of the students that consist of 340 students at SMA Negeri 1 Barru. The sample of this research used purposive sampling was XI MIA 2 that consisted of 30 students. The instrument used in this research was picture and essay test.The result of this research was the competence in predicting pictures was very good. From 27 students or 90% got very good level. The second is good level, there were 2 students or 7% got good level. The third is low level, there were 1 students or 3% got low level. As well as their reading comprehension of the text with mean score 80.33. It can be conclude that the result of this research was appropriate with the theory which stated that pictures was useful for getting students to predict what is coming next in a lesson. It is also help the students can look at the picture and try to guess what it shows.

Abstract

The purpose of this research aimed at finding out the students’ ability in speaking accuracy and fluency at SMA Negeri 9 Gowa class X IIS 1. The research used a descriptive quantitative method. The subject of this research was students in SMA Negeri 9 Gowa in tenth grade. The data of the research was collected through speaking tests in oral test form. The result of the research for speaking accuracy showed from 24 students’ there was 1 student (4.17%) who belonged to ‘excellent’ category, 4 students (16.67%) who belonged to ‘good’ category, 6 students (25%) who belonged to ‘fairly good’ category, 6 students (25%) who belonged to ‘poor’ category and 7 students (29.17%) who belonged to ‘very poor’ category. The mean score for speaking accuracy for students in SMA Negeri 9 Gowa at tenth grade was 5.6 which means the level of speaking accuracy of students was categorized as fair level. While for speaking fluency, the result of the research showed from 24 students’ there was 1 student (4.17%) who belonged to ‘excellent’ category, 4 students (16.67%) who belonged to ‘good’ category, 8 students (33.33%) who belonged to ‘fairly good’ category, 5 students (20.83%) who belonged to ‘poor’ category and 6 students (25%) who belonged to ‘very poor’ category. The mean score of speaking fluency of students in SMA Negeri 9 Gowa at tenth grade was 5.9 which mean it was categorized as fair level.

Abstract

This research aimed at finding out the significant different impact between using e-book and p-book in students’ reading achievement at the third grade of MTSN 4 Jeneponto. The researcher used a quasi-experimental research with two group pretest-posttest which was carried out online during the covid-19 pandemic. The sample was class IX A and IX 18 students. The instrument of this research was reading test. The result of the research showed that the value of t-test in terms of accuracy was 3,509. It was higher than the t-table namely 2, 11991 at the level of significant (p) = 0, 05 with degree of freedom (df) = 16. The differences between t-test and t-table value was very significant. It means that the Null Hypothesis (H0) was rejected and Alternative Hypothesis (H1) was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that using P-book is giving more positive impact than using E-book in students’ reading achievement at MTSN 4 Jeneponto.

Abstract

Reading is challenging skill for students, where they have to comprehend the content of the text and identify the component of comprehension level. Dealing with this challenging this research aims to prove whether the Schemata Teaching Technique can improve the students’ reading comprehension. The research strategy utilized is classroom action research; it is conducted in two cycles. Each cycle is conducted in four gatherings. Each cycle comprises of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The information are taken from the occasion, archives and witnesses. The result of the inquire about appears that the way to move forward English students comprehension is by expanding their reading dominance utilizing schemata procedure where the students can do more works out which in a roundabout way too increment their comprehension in reading, and the result of post-test is way better than in pre-test. The mean score of pretest 67.74 to 78.61 in posttest cycle I, the mean score of pretest 71.17 to 80.52 in posttest cycle II. The percentages of exhaustiveness of each cycle also show the improvement, with 10.87% in first cycle, 9.35% in second cycle. The researcher suggests to the teachers especially English teachers to be more inventive to make a modern method in learning English uncommonly reading process. The analyst also concludes that educating English through schemata teaching technique can improve the students’ reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 8 Selayar.

Abstract

This research is aimd to find out the effect of teachers’ creativity The Effect of Teachers’ Creativity on Students Interest in Learning English in The Second Grade SMP Negeri 2 Tinambung. The problem statements are two namely: 1) How is students perception of learning English?, What are the effect of teachers’ creativity on students’ interest in learning English at SMP Negeri 2 Tinambung ?.This research was descriptive qualitative. The population is the second grade student SMP Negeri 2 Tinambung which consist of 25 students. The sample taken from B class of SMP Negeri 2 Tinambung. The instrument use are interview and questionnaire. However, the subjects of this research were 25 students of the second grade at SMP Negeri 2 Tinambung. The researcher employed Descriptive-qualitative method and the instrument of this research were conducted through interview and questionnaire The research findings showed that the effect of teachers’ creativity on student’s interest in learning English was very important it can increase student enthusiasm for receiving the material and can increased students interest in learning English.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the correlation between students' reading habits in English and vocabulary achievement at the second grade (IPA) of SMA Unismuh Makassar. In this study, using the correlation description method, which consists of two instruments in collecting data, namely questionnaires and tests. This research was conducted in a class at SMA Unismuh Makassar where the sample chosen by the researcher was class two science consisting of 27 students in one class. The results in this study indicate that variable X to variable Y has a correlation with the degree of the correlation, namely a weak correlation in the form of a negative correlation. The negative correlation is the higher the variable X, the lower the Y variable and vice versa. The data analysis calculation of r is the lower r-table (-0.287 <0.3809). This means that there is no significant correlation between students' reading habits in English and vocabulary achievement. In other words, hypothesis H0 is accepted and hypothesis H1 is rejected.

Abstract

This research aimed to know the increasing students’ writing ability in descripitive and recount text through Interactive Writing Model at the first grade SMAN 1 ENREKANG. The method of this research was pre-experimental research. The sample of this research. The sample of this research consisted of experiment class. Namely class X IPA 5 was 30 students. In the class used Interactive Writing Model. The sample was taken by Random Sampling Technique. Based on the findings, it was found that the value of t-test in writing is descriptive text is greater than the ratio on t-table (3.770) > (2.756) and in recount text t-test is greater than ratio on t-table also (5.420) > (2.756). Based on the table it can be conclude that the alternative hypothesis is accepted. It means that there was increased in the students’ writing descriptive and recount text before and after gave treatment used interactive writing model. Therefore, that result of the pre-test and post-test was significance different. Based on the descriptive, the pre-test and post-test prove the post-test is higher. Based on the explanation, Interactive Writing Model can increase the students’ writing ability in descriptive and recount text.

Abstract

This study aimed at finding out: 1. How are the students’ performance on the use of coordinating conjunction, 2. how are the students performance on the use subordinating conjunction. The method in this research was descriptive quantitative, the reseacher chooses subject class C by the fifth-semenster studnets of English Department from Muhammadiyah University of Makassar, consisting of twenty students. To got the data of this research were collected through tests and interviews by google form.The test results from students, that students know better the use of coordinating conjunction, many students answer correctly with an average highest score of 670, but the students difficult to distinguish the use of conjunction which has the same meaning, like but and yet, also for and because. for subordinating conjunction. shows, the students low understand the use of that conjunctions, many students answer incorrectly, expecially conjunction althogh, after and where. an average highest score of 605, the students still confused the function of that conjunction itself.
