JLTA publishes academic articles that recognize successful engaged learning depends on effective partnerships between students, faculty, community agencies, administrators, disciplines, and more. The journal invites submission of 1) Research that emanates from or informs campus-community partnerships; 2) Studies co-authored by faculty, students, and/or community partners; 3) Literature and Teaching English as Foreign Language; and 4) Commentary on emerging trends, developments, and/or challenges. <![CDATA[The purpose of this research is to find out the validity of National Examination’s item 2019 in English Subject in reading skill in SMA Negeri Matakali, KabupatenPolewali Mandar.The research used descriptive quantitative method. The subject of this research is English teacher at SMA NegeriMatakali, Lesson plan of English, Curriculum 2013 and National examination’s document in English subject 2019. The data of the research was taken by using document analysis and interview. The result of this research showed 11 of 50 question’s item in National examination in English subject 2019 are in line with English materials which are taught in SMA Class XII at first semester. It means 22% from the total number of National Examination.]]>

<![CDATA[This research finding out whether the blog increases the students’ writing skill. In this study, researcher used in this quantitative research is a pre-experimental method. This kind of study allows the researcher to look at the effects of at least one independent variable and one dependent variable. In this research, the researcher wanted to see whether the treatment make a difference or no. Population The population of the research was the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Jeneponto in the academic year of 2019/2020. Sample, the sample was selected by using cluster random sampling technique. The researcher chose one class as the sample. Research Instrument, the instrument used in this research was writing test. <![CDATA[Productive skill is one of types language skills. It is also known as active skill because it covers writing and speaking skill. Learners need to generate language to express their ideas either in speech or text. This research aimed at finding out the improvement of the students’ writing and speaking skill through Participation Point System (PPS) Method in teaching English. The researcher used pre-experimental design. The sample consisted of 20 students which was taken by using total sampling technique. The research findings showed that the students’ mean score in writing skill in terms of content was 48.30 pre-test to be 78.25 in post-test with 62.00% improvement. Then, the mean score in terms of organization was 45.80 pre-test to be 78.25 in post-test with 70.85% improvement. Meanwhile the students’ mean score in speaking skill in terms of pronunciation was 43.30 pre-test to be 67.55 in post-test with 47.23% improvement. and organization in post-test was higher than pre-test. Then, the students’ mean score in speaking skill in terms of pronunciation and vocabulary in post-test was higher than pre-test. The t-test analysis also showed that Sig.2-tailed = 0.005 which is smaller than α = 0.05. It means that there was a significant difference of students’ writing and speaking skill before and after using Participation Point System (PPS) Method. Based on the finding, it can be concluded that Participation Point System (PPS) Method was effective to improve students’ skill in teaching English at the eleventh grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 9 Makassar.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aimed to finding the effectiveness of the Joox application in teaching English and students' responses in listening through the Joox application. The researcher applied the pre-experimental method with one-group pre-test and post-test designs, and collected data based on the test. The research sample was the students of class xi Mipa 1 SMAN 1 Tapalang, totaling 26 students. The sample was taken using purposive sampling technique. The results showed that the pre-test results of class XI Mipa 1 students had sufficient value. After treatment and given the post-test, the students' scores increased significantly. The results of this study were the mean value obtained by students through the pre-test was 60.42 and the post-test was 85.38 with the significant value of the paired sample test smaller than the significant level, namely 0.000 <0.05. Then the conclusion of the results of the student interviews shows that 27% of students difficult to listen use the Joox application and 73% of students easy in listening use the Joox application. Based on these results, researchers can conclude that the Joox application is effective in teaching English.]]>

<![CDATA[This pre-experimental research aimed at finding out whether or not the use of Random Text Strategy is effective to improve the students’ literal and interpretative reading comprehension at the 7th grade Students of SMPS Ahlu Shuffah Muhammadiyah, Bantaeng Regency, Province of South Sulawesi. The sample of this research was the 7th grade Students of SMPS Ahlu Shuffah Muhammadiyah.The researcher used purposive sampling method because that class was able to fulfill the rules and they had the characteristics that the researcher wants. Hence, the researcher want to overcome the students’ problem in reading and improve their reading skill through the use of random text strategy then the researcher chose the class with the low English learning achievement compared with the others classes especially for their reading skill and find out the effectiveness of this strategy. The findings of this research shown that there is a significant improvement toward the students’ reading comprehension in the post-test compared with the students score in pre-test. The use of random text strategy is effective to improve the students' literal reading comprehension. It based on the result of the students’ reading test in pre-test compared with the students’ reading test result in post-test.]]>

<![CDATA[This thesis study aimed at (1) To find out the students' mistakes from English noun phrases using pre modifiers in writing English texts made by eleventh grade students? (2) To find out students' mistakes from English noun phrases using the post modifier in writing English texts made by eleventh grade students? The research design a descriptive quantitative method, in which it used writing test. The result of the data that the researcher got the most types of error in noun phrase using pre-modifier and post-modifier in disordering made by the students in using noun phrase. The result of the analysis indicated that there are two part the student made error for the first is using pre-modifier in determiner is 66 errors or 66%, in adjective 9 errors or 9%, in Quantifier 1 error or 1%. The second is using post-modifier in adjective, 14 errors or 14%, in To-Infinitive 1 error or 1% and the last is prepositional phrase with 10 errors or 10%. This mean that there was high level error in noun phrase using pre-modifier and post-modifier at Madrasah Aliyah Bontomarannu. Keywords: Error analysis, Noun Phrase, Writing skills.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aimed at finding out: (1) What are the students’ difficulties on the use of adjective phrase in writing English text, (2) What are the factors that make students difficult in writing adjective phrase. The method of this research was descriptive quantitative method. Based on the results researcher found the students’ difficulties on the use adjective phrases those are intralingua error and interlingua error. Intralingua error consisted of 41 items or,87.23% students have difficulty in intralingua errors, while interlingua error consisted of 6 items or 12.76% students have difficulty in interlingua errors. Based on the types of adjective phrases, there were 12 items or 25.53% of students have difficulty using predicative adjectives and there were 35 items or 74.46% of students having difficulty using attributive adjectives. The factors that make difficult for students to write adjective phrases in writing are grammatical weaknesses, knowledge, understanding, lack of training and educational background. It can be concluded that there were two students’ difficulty on the use of adjective phrase and 4 factors that make students difficult to make adjective phrase.]]>

<![CDATA[Teaching media are essential in the teaching and learning English. The use of appropriate media in teaching a new language will help teachers create more effective learning environment in the classrooms. Using a descriptive qualitative method, this study explores what kinds of teaching media used by the teachers in teaching English and what factors influencing English teachers’ selection of teaching media in the classroom. This study was conducted at SMP Unismuh Makassar, involving two English teachers who have worked there for several years. The researcher used interview and observation as instruments in data collection process. The data were analyzed using data reduction, data display and data verification. The results of the study show that the teachers make use of four kinds of media, namely graphic media such as textbook and picture, media video such as video, projected media such as Power Point and display media such as a board. <![CDATA[This study aims at finding out the students’ grammatical competence in speaking skills especially in the use of simple present tense at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Makassar. The method of this research was Descriptive Quantitative Method. Data of the research were collected through speaking test. The sample of this research was class XI IPA 3 from SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Makassar. The sample was taken by using Purposive Sampling Technique.Based on the results of the research, it was found that the students’ grammar competence in speaking skill in of XI IPA of SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Makassar is categorized into poor level. It was found that the students are difficult to form the sentence well and to arrange correct sentence when speaking. It was based on the result of test given dealing with the classification of students’ score.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aimed at finding out how the students' skills in using subject-verb agreement in writing essays. This research method is descriptive quantitative method. The research data was collected through the writing test as an instrument. The sample of this research was the fifth-semester students of English Education at the Alauddin State Islamic University of Makassar. The sample was taken by using simple random sampling. Based on the analysis and discussion about this research, the researcher concluded the researcher concluded that the students' ability to use the subject-verb agreement in the fifth semester students of English Education at the Alauddin State Islamic University of Makassar was categorized into very good level with a score was 88.24. This value is obtained based on the results of the scores of all students that are divided into the number of students who are the samples of this study. From 35 students, there were 7 students whose mastery levels were excellent, 16 students gained a very good level, 8 students whose mastery levels were good, 3 students gained a good level, 1 student gained a fair level, and no student gained a poor level. Moreover, the last level is very poor and no student gained this level.]]>
