Abstract

This systematic literature review examines the implementation of digital transformation in tourism and hospitality education through an analysis of 20 peer-reviewed articles published between 2019-2024. The study employs a rigorous methodological approach involving systematic database searches, strict inclusion-exclusion criteria, and qualitative content analysis to identify key themes, implementation challenges, and strategic recommendations. The findings reveal a significant disparity in digital transformation implementation between developed and developing nations. While developed countries primarily focus on optimizing technological utilization and pedagogical innovation, developing nations face fundamental challenges including inadequate infrastructure and pronounced digital divides. The analysis identifies several development opportunities, including enhanced learning flexibility, improved digital literacy, and the integration of advanced technologies such as AI and IoT in tourism education. The study's practical implications emphasize the importance of establishing robust digital frameworks, implementing comprehensive educator training programs, and adapting curricula to achieve an optimal balance between technological and practical learning components. This research contributes to the theoretical understanding of digital transformation in tourism education while suggesting future research directions to evaluate the long-term effectiveness of hybrid learning models across various geographical and socio-economic contexts. The findings provide valuable insights for educational institutions, policymakers, and industry stakeholders in developing strategies for effective digital transformation in tourism education. Abstract

This research aims to analyze the phonological errors made by fourth-grade students at Al-Kautsar Islamic Modern Boarding School in pronouncing English vowel diphthongs. A descriptive qualitative method was applied to explore students’ pronunciation by analyzing their recorded speech. The participants were five students from class IV-C during the 2024/2025 academic year. Each student performed a speech that was recorded and evaluated using phonetic software based on International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) standards. The results demonstrated that students often had difficulties pronouncing diphthongs such as /eɪ/ and /oʊ/, largely due to interlingual influences (native language interference) and intralingual issues (complexity of the English language and unfamiliar phonological structures). It was observed that the diphthongs /aɪ/, /eɪ/, and /oʊ/ appeared frequently in the students’ speech, while others like /eə/ and /ʊə/ were either rare or absent. This absence is attributed to the prevalent use of American English pronunciation, which does not frequently utilize these diphthongs. The analysis revealed various levels of proficiency among the participants, with scores ranging from poor to good. These findings underline the importance of enhancing phonological awareness and pronunciation training among EFL learners. The study concludes with practical suggestions for improving pronunciation instruction through phonetics-based activities and greater exposure to native-like speech.

Abstract

This study investigates how dehumanization metaphors in heavy metal lyrics specifically Slipknot’s Iowa (2001) influence L2 learners’ vocabulary acquisition and critical discourse skills. Although extreme metal lyrics are often perceived as violent or non-academic, they offer rich linguistic input containing complex metaphors, emotional intensity, and identity-based discourse. Using a qualitative descriptive design, fifteen intermediate EFL learners analyzed three Slipknot songs (“People = Shit,” “The Heretic Anthem,” and “Disasterpiece”) through the lens of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). Data were obtained through pre–post vocabulary tests, CDA worksheets, reflective journals, and semi-structured interviews. The findings indicate a significant improvement in learners’ mastery of advanced vocabulary, particularly metaphorical and emotionally laden lexical items. The analysis of extreme metaphors encouraged deep processing, fostering greater retention and contextual understanding. Moreover, students demonstrated enhanced critical discourse awareness, including the ability to identify ideological meanings, decode violent metaphors symbolically, and interpret identity construction within the lyrics. Emotional engagement with the material also contributed positively to motivation and learning outcomes. Overall, the study concludes that heavy metal lyrics when approached critically serve as effective authentic materials for developing higher-order linguistic and analytical competencies in SLA. Such texts not only expand vocabulary and discourse skills but also support learners’ identity development by enabling them to explore themes of alienation, resistance, and self-expression through language.

Abstract

Learning English vocabulary using TikTok as a media learning is expected to provide students with a practical, engaging, and meaningful learning experience. This research aims to determine the implementation of teaching English vocabulary to fifth-grade students of SD Laboratorium UNG through TikTok media. This study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive case study design, involving 20 fifth-grade students at SD Laboratorium UNG in the academic year 2024/2025 as research subjects. The data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, focusing on three basic types of vocabulary: nouns, verbs, and adjectives, which were taught using TikTok videos. This research showed that (1) using TikTok videos in the classroom increases students’ interest, participation, and understanding of English vocabulary. This was proven by observations that have been analyzed about the implementation of TikTok videos as a medium for learning English vocabulary to fifth-grade students at SD Laboratorium UNG. (2) students showed improvement in recognizing, pronouncing, and using vocabulary in simple sentences, and felt more confident in the learning process. This is based on the results of interviews conducted with 5 students who were most active during the implementation of TikTok videos in English vocabulary learning activities. Despite challenges such as limited access to technology, TikTok proved to be an effective medium for teaching vocabulary to young EFL learners. Abstract

Abstract In this ever-changing world, our educational systems have undergone a dramatic transformation with the widespread adoption of technologically driven learning tools. To that end, artificial intelligence tools have garnered considerable attention from researchers in recent years due to their applicability, feasibility, and relevance to EFL learners’ specific learning needs. The researcher undertook this small-scale library investigation to unravel the benefits of artificial intelligence tools in modern EFL reading learning enterprises. Thus, the researcher capitalized on a thematic analysis approach while analyzing findings of 30 previously-published AI-based reading learning studies. The main reason for incorporating a thematic analysis approach is to generate more robust, believable, and comprehensible results, as the analyzed data was clustered into pertinent themes. From the thematically-categorized findings, artificial intelligence tools are valuable learning assistances to be further implemented in modern EFL reading learning dynamics as they enhance reading competence, strategy development, motivational, and engagement among second language learners. Abstract

Abstract is This study explores the phenomenon of code mixing in the YouTube livestreams of Windah Basudara, a prominent Indonesian gaming content creator. Utilizing a qualitative content analysis method, the research examines three livestream videos with high viewership to identify patterns, types, and communicative functions of code mixing. The findings reveal 155 instances of code mixing, categorized into insertion (48.38%), alternation (39.35%), and congruent lexicalization (12.25%), based on Muysken’s (2000) framework. The study shows that code mixing in Windah’s content is a deliberate linguistic strategy to enhance expressiveness, connect with a multicultural audience, and reflect digital fluency. This practice underscores the dynamic and performative nature of bilingual communication in digital media, highlighting how code mixing functions as a tool for identity construction, engagement, and sociolinguistic adaptation.
