Abstract

This bibliometric study aims to analyze the trends and developments in PBL research within the field of ELT by examining scholarly publications from the past decade. Using data from prominent academic databases such as Sinta and Google Scholar, this study maps the evolution of PBL research, identifies key publications and authors, and highlights emerging research themes and methodologies. The analysis reveals a notable increase in the number of publications on PBL, with a significant surge in 2022. This rise is indicative of a growing interest in innovative teaching methods, potentially driven by the challenges and changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. The study finds a predominant use of qualitative research methods, including observations and interviews, which offer in-depth insights into the practical application and impact of PBL. Research subjects primarily consist of students and teachers, though there is a limited focus on junior high school students, suggesting areas for future exploration. Data collection instruments employed across the studies include observations, questionnaires, interviews, and pre-tests/post-tests, reflecting a diverse methodological approach. The topics covered by the reviewed articles span various aspects of English language learning, such as English for Specific Purposes (ESP), metacognitive abilities, and spoken English. These findings underscore PBL's versatility and its potential to enhance specific language skills. In conclusion, the bibliometric analysis highlights the dynamic nature of PBL research in ELT, demonstrating its growing significance and the continued potential for refining educational practices through this innovative approach.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of mobile technology has transformed education, with mobile learning applications (m-learning) becoming integral to language education. This study provides a bibliometric analysis of research on mobile learning applications in language education, examining trends, types of research, and key themes from 2010 to 2023. Data were collected from major academic databases, including Scopus, Web of Science, SINTA, and Google Scholar, using keywords related to mobile learning and language education. The findings reveal a significant increase in publications over the past five years, reflecting the growing academic interest in m-learning. Qualitative research methods have been predominantly used, focusing on user experiences and the contextual nature of mobile learning. Critical thinking skills have emerged as a key area of focus, indicating a shift towards using mobile learning for deeper cognitive processes. The study also highlights the central role of students as research subjects, while noting a gap in research on other stakeholders, such as teachers and administrators. Data collection has primarily relied on tests to measure cognitive outcomes, but the study suggests incorporating a variety of methods to capture a more holistic view of the learning experience. The conclusion emphasizes the need for ongoing research to optimize the use of mobile learning applications in language education, advocating for a broader inclusion of stakeholders and diverse research methodologies. This bibliometric overview contributes to the understanding of mobile learning's impact on language education and offers insights for future research directions.

Abstract

This bibliometric analysis examines research trends on students’ engagement in EFL classrooms from 2020 to 2023, revealing substantial academic interest with a total of 982 publications. The analysis highlights a peak in publications in 2022, underscoring the growing emphasis on student-centered teaching approaches. However, citation metrics show a significant decline over the years, indicating a shift in scholarly attention and citation behavior. The study also identifies a marked disparity in author influence, with the top 20 authors contributing to a significant portion of the citations. Keyword analysis and network visualization using VOSviewer reveal a strong focus on themes like online learning, student engagement, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. These findings suggest that while the field is expanding, there is a need for ongoing research to address emerging challenges and sustain academic impact. This study contributes to understanding the dynamic landscape of EFL education, providing insights for future research and practice.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to present the research trends within Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) in English Language Teaching (ELT) from 2020 through August 3rd, 2023. Data for this bibliometric study were collected from Google Scholar by filtering publications that mentioned TPACK in ELT. A maximum of 770 papers were mined to quantify how the overall number of publications, citation counts and keyword co-occurrence varied. Taken together, the results show a clear rise in TPACK related publications over this four-year period that mirrors the heightening need to embed technology into teaching language worldwide but especially due to responses around Covid 19 and remote hybrid learning environments. Citation analysis demonstrates influential works on what factors are important in technology use and impacts. The second step of the co-occurrence analysis points to central themes such as pedagogical content knowledge and technology integration which are already emphasized in research literature, alongside an emerging dynamic perspective on COVID-19 impact for teaching practices. These results deeply emphasize the importance of future research targeting towards methodological clarity in TPACK investigations. This study contributes immensely to education and research because it reveals that TPACK plays critical roles in tackling these challenges/opportunities that have been brought about by the adoption of technological advancement when teaching a language.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze trends and developments in research on students' perceptions of blended learning during the COVID-19 pandemic using a bibliometric approach. The bibliometric method is used to quantitatively evaluate and interpret academic publications, providing insights into the growth, impact, and thematic evolution within this research domain. Data was collected from major academic databases such as Sinta and Google Scholar, focusing on publications from the last decade to capture recent developments in blended learning research during the pandemic. The results show a significant increase in the number of publications on blended learning starting in 2019, peaking in 2021, before slightly declining in 2022. The analysis also reveals that student perception is the most frequently researched topic, with data collection methods dominated by tests and questionnaires. However, there is a lack of R&D studies and qualitative research that could provide further insights into the development and refinement of blended learning approaches. This study concludes that while academic interest in blended learning has increased, particularly during the pandemic, more R&D studies and qualitative research are needed to develop and refine these learning methods and to enhance understanding of their effectiveness in various educational contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the perspectives of English majors on the difficulties they face in translation using the bibliometric analysis method. This method allows for a quantitative evaluation of academic publications to provide a holistic view of selected research topics over a period of time. Data was collected from the Scopus database, and search results were processed using VOSViewer to generate data visualizations. The analysis results show significant fluctuations in the number of publications related to translation difficulties in recent years, reflecting the ever-changing academic interest in this field. The most frequently discussed topics include translation errors, translation strategies, cultural influences in translation, and the use of technology in translation. Students identified several major difficulties in translation, including linguistic and structural differences between the source and target languages, as well as understanding cultural contexts, which are major obstacles, especially in translating idioms and cultural expressions. Additionally, the lack of knowledge about effective translation techniques is also a significant barrier. This study suggests the need for improvements in the translation education curriculum, the development of more advanced translation tools, and international collaboration between higher education institutions to address translation difficulties. The findings of this study provide a solid foundation for improvements in translation education and the development of more effective strategies to help students overcome translation challenges.

Abstract

Abstract Second language educators in this modern age are granted with limitless digital learning platforms to be further integrated into their habitual writing classroom activities. For this reason, they need to embrace this learning aspiration by constantly internalizing a wide variety of technological tools promoting holistic educational rewards among EFL learners. This small-scale library study aimed to investigate the impacts of Canva media on the continual advancement of Indonesian EFL learners’ writing proficiency levels. To achieve this major study objective, the researcher plotted a thematic analysis while analyzing some relevant findings from 30 previous Canva media and writing scientific articles forming in varied reputable national journal article platforms. A thematic analysis was useful in yielding more accurate research results since the researcher obtained more nuanced insights concerning the research areas that were specifically investigated. Based on the thematic analysis, the researcher deduced that Canva media was beneficial in supporting Indonesian EFL learners in making smoother writing transitions among the shared ideas and gradually shifting them into more ingenious writers. Keywords: Digital media; Canva; EFL learners; library study; thematic analysis.
