Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of audio-visual learning media on the listening skills of class VII-1 students of Panca Budi Middle School, Medan. The study focuses on Indonesian language learning, especially listening skills with the help of audio-visual media. The method used is an experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. Data were obtained through listening skills tests before and after treatment, as well as observations during learning. The results of the descriptive analysis obtained an average pre-test score of 11.68 with a standard deviation of 2.450 and a standard error mean of 0.463, while the average post-test score was 16.04 with a standard deviation of 2.442 and a standard error mean of 0.461. The number of samples analyzed was 28 respondents. Thus, the results of the study show that the experimental group using audio-visual media obtained a significant increase in listening skills compared to the control group using conventional methods. Therefore, from the results of the descriptive analysis above, it can be concluded that the use of audio-visual media has a significant effect. Students also become more active and motivated during the learning process. Thus, audio-visual media is proven to be effective in improving the listening skills of junior high school students. In addition to these main findings, the study also uncovered several interesting facts. The increase in students' average listening skill score from 11.68 to 16.04 represents a jump of more than 37% after using audiovisual media. The stability of the standard deviation between the pre-test and post-test indicates that this improvement occurred evenly across all experimental groups. Furthermore, students became more active and motivated during the learning process, proving that audiovisual media is highly relevant and effective for a technology-savvy generation.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the idiomatic meaning of the lexeme "eye" in Korean idioms and to explain the cultural values of Korea reflected within them. It employs a descriptive qualitative approach using content analysis methods. The data consists of 24 idioms containing the lexeme "eye," collected from various sources such as dictionaries, books, and official Korean language websites. The data analysis includes classifying the idioms based on their denotative and connotative meanings, as well as identifying the cultural elements they embody. The findings reveal that idioms with the lexeme "eye" possess diverse meanings, referring not only to visual function in a literal sense but also reflecting emotions, perception, judgment, and social relationships within Korean culture. In this study, the meanings of Korean idioms containing the lexeme "eye" reflect emotions and social dynamics more than just love although love remains an important theme. Cultural values such as social hierarchy, collectivism, and the importance of maintaining self-image are also reflected in these idioms. This study is expected to contribute to Korean language learning as a foreign language, particularly in mastering idioms that are rich in cultural significance.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the feasibility of “Keluargaku Unik” Indonesian Language book for Elementary School Class II Chapter 4 based on four aspects of book feasibility according to the National Education Standards Agency (BSNP), namely content, language, presentation, and graphical feasibility. This research focuses on analyzing the Indonesian language student book for grade II Chapter 4 and does not cover other chapters in the book. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The research data model consists of reading text, illustrations, and the physical form of the book. The results showed that in general the book had fulfilled the eligibility aspects of content and presentation with appropriate (S) and interesting (M) qualifications. However, language feasibility, especially in the use of spelling, still found some violations such as the use of capital letters and punctuation marks that are not in accordance with the rules of Refined Spelling (EYD). Meanwhile, in the aspect of graphics, the book is considered appropriate (T) although there are still some discrepancies in the placement of illustrations. These findings have an important impact on teachers, schools, and book writers in improving the quality of textbooks in accordance with BSNP standards and the use of good and correct EYD.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the feasibility of Chapter 8 of the Indonesian language textbook for Grade VI elementary school students entitled "Safe in Cyberspace," based on four aspects of the National Education Standards Agency (BSNP) standards: content, language, presentation, and graphics. This study uses a qualitative case study approach through documentation study techniques and content analysis. This chapter was chosen because it contains the theme of digital literacy which is important in learning Indonesian and encourages the development of students' writing and critical thinking skills. The analysis results show that Chapter 8 meets the feasibility criteria with an average score of 82%, which is classified as good. The average assessment results from the four aspects indicate that Chapter 8 is suitable for use as teaching material and can be a reference in developing adaptive and contextual textbooks. Although there are some shortcomings in the language and graphics aspects, overall this book is still suitable for use in the learning process. These findings are expected to provide input for the development of more effective textbooks that are in accordance with national education standards.

Abstract

This research aims to elucidate the hegemony of power as proposed by Gramsci in George Orwell's novel Animal Farm. The study is limited to practices of hegemony such as information manipulation, propaganda, changing rules, historical erasure, control of education, and the creation of a common enemy, without discussing other literary elements outside this theory. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method employing the note taking technique. The researcher observed the entire content of the novel, then recorded and classified data related to Gramsci's theory of hegemony. The resulting data consisted of phrases, clauses, and sentences containing elements of Gramscian power hegemony, specifically those depicting practices of ideological power. The results of this study show forms of hegemony evident in the dominant characters, particularly Napoleon and the group of pigs, who build and maintain power through ideological strategies that create consensus among the other animals. This finding demonstrates that propaganda and ideological control are ultimately more effective than physical force in maintaining domination.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the psychological dynamics of the poet in Impromptu Terzina by Ewith Bahar through Freud’s psychoanalytic approach. The research focuses on how the terzina structure functions as a medium of sublimation for the poet’s inner expressions. The analysis was conducted descriptively and analytically by examining diction, symbols, and poetic structure representing Freud’s three aspects of personality: the id, ego, and superego. The findings show that the id appears through spontaneous emotional impulses, the ego organizes reflective awareness toward reality, and the superego embodies moral values and inner peace. The terzina structure serves not only as an aesthetic form but also reflects the poet’s psychological order in channeling inner conflict into emotional harmony. Thus, Impromptu Terzina demonstrates that poetry can act as a means of sublimation and self-healing while offering a new perspective in psychoanalytic literary studies that link Freud’s theory with poetic form and structure.

Abstract

This study analyzes Sosiawan Leak's poetry anthology Wathathitha using Homi K. Bhabha's postcolonial theory, particularly the concept of mimicry. This study was conducted to examine how the poems in the anthology represent colonial heritage and neo-feudalism practices that still shape Indonesia's socio-political life. The research method uses a mimetic qualitative approach by repeatedly reading thirteen selected poems and analyzing them through relevant theoretical sources. The results show that Wathathitha presents sharp social criticism of abuse of power, corruption, and bureaucracy that resemble colonial patterns. Mimicry is evident in the emergence of new colonialism and neo-feudalism structures that have been passed down into modern power practices. This anthology confirms that despite formal independence, colonial traces still influence the nation's identity and social system.
