Abstract

The Batak Toba tribe has a very important traditional food for its people, namely dekke na niarsik. Dekke na niarsik is one of the traditional foods made from carp that is used in various traditional events of the Batak Toba tribe. Along with the development of the times, dekke na niarsik remains and continues to be consumed by the Batak Toba people, especially in Pematangsiantar City. The main problem of this research focused on the dekke na niarsik which is the cultural identity of the Batak Toba in Pematangsiantar city and the functions contained in the dekke na niarsik for the Batak Toba people in Pematangsiantar city. This research used the theory of the function of food by Foster and Anderson, and the theory of cultural identity by Myron Lustig. The findings of the research reveal that dekke na niarsik is a cultural heritage of the Batak Toba people in the form of culinary offerings. Dekke is award an odd number of times on each anniversary or event. Dekke na niarsik is given at the time of marriage, birth, seven months, adopting sidi, graduating from college, until the death ceremony. There for dekke na niarsik symbolizes the life cycle of the Batak Toba people from birth to the end of their lives.

Abstract

Research on the Health Culture of Scavengers at the SARBAGITA Regional TPA, began with cases of skin diseases that mostly suffered by scavengers as a result of their work to find junk items in waste. This study tries to examine the health culture of scavengers in their daily lives. The main problem in this research is focused on the health behavior of scavengers at the SARBAGITA Regional TPA. This study uses the theory of health behavior popularized by Dunn. The method used is a qualitative research method using data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and literature study. The analysis used in this research is interpretive descriptive. Where this study shows that the health culture of the scavengers at the SARBAGITA Regional TPA is part of their health behavior, which results in preventive and promotive behavior of scavengers in maintaining and improving their health. There is also a caring and apathetic behavior of scavengers in responding to the health problems they suffer.

Abstract

Huria Kristen Batak Protestant (HKBP) is a Protestant Christian church in the Toba Batak ethinc group. HKBP cannot be separated from the life of the Toba Batak people. although basically the HKBP is a fellowship of Christians from all ethnic groups and groups. This study discusses the role of the church in an effort to maintain the cultural identity of the Toba Batak diaspora in Denpasar. and implications for both the congregation and the community around the church. This study uses the Functionalism Theory from Talcott Parsons and Symbolic Interaction Theory from Herbert Blumer. Qualitative research methods through data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation as well as using inductive data analysis techniques. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the Protestant Batak Christian Huria Church (HKBP) played a major role in maintaining the cultural identity of the Toba Batak diaspora in Denpasar. The implication of establishment of the Protestant Batak Christian Huria Church (HKBP) in Denpasar is the emergence of an exclusive and inclusive attitude from the congregation.

Abstract

This study discusses about the behavior of the Simatibung Village community in seeking of alternative or traditional medicine. In this study, the author using an ethnographic method with the theory of Health Belief Model and Health Seeking Behavior. From the data that has been obtained, there are several factors that influence the behavior of the Simatibung Village community, ranging from access, economy to trust, from these indicators people tend to choose traditional medicine than modern medicine in health centers.

Abstract

The people of Tulungrejo Village believe that they are not allowed to inviting wayang and hanging the gong because this can bring disaster. The purpose of this research is to understand the reason why people still maintain these myts and to find out how people interpret the wxistence of these myths. The theory used is theory of semiotics from Charles Pierce and structural theory from Lévi-Strauss to find out the meaning of the myth of the prohibition of inviting wayang and hanging gongs in the life of the people of Tulungrejo Village. This study used a qualitative research method with an ethnographic research model through observation, interview techniques and literature study. Based on the results of the research that has been done, there are reasons why people still believe in and maintain the myth of the prohibition of inviting wayang and hanging gongs because hese myths useful values and functions for the people of Tulungrejo Village: 1) as acommunity effort to avoid unwanted disaster, 2) as a means of delivering ethics education messages, and 3) as a medium for sreading Islam.

Abstract

Ende are one of the merchant communities in Sotor Market, Ketang Village, Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. In everyday life Ende has a dual role, namely a domestic role and a public role. The involvement of women in the public sphere aims to help husbands increase economic family. So on this basis the research was conducted to find out how the role of women traders in the domestic sphere and in the public sphere. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with an ethnographic research model through observation, interviews, and literature studies. The theory used is Role theory (Pujiwati Sajogyo) and Socialist Feminism theory (Friederich Engels). Based on the results of the research analysis, Ende's role in the domestic sphere is to act as a wife to her husband, a mother to her children, and a grandmother to her grandchildren. While in the public sphere Ende acts as a breadwinner and as a member of the community. Women traders by carrying out these two dual roles have implications for both the family and the community.

Abstract

This study discusses the strategy of Women's Resilience in Ratu Jaya's Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) during the Covid-19 pandemic in Depok City, West Java Province. The focus of this research is the strategy to maintain UMKM carried out by women's groups during the downturn of Covid-19 by using the theory of structural functionalism from Talcot Parson and the theory of Liberal Feminism a la Alison Jagar. The method used to answer this research is qualitative ethnography with interviews and observations. Where the results of this study are women are able to maintain UMKM through various digital marketing and marketing strategies, maximizing relationships between members, transparency in administration and adaptation to the pandemic.

Abstract

Tugu community settlement are located in Semper Barat District, Jakarta Utara. Tugu community preserve the cultural expressions, specifically cultural activity that connects to Portuguese authentic tradition such as Rabo-Rabo. The uniqueness of the tradition are its existence lies beyond the plurality and modernity of Jakarta. Rabo-Rabo tradition are held occasionally when Christmas and new year celebration, the nuance of this tradition are corresponded with the Christianity and firmly grasp by Mardijkers strong kinship (social aspects), kerontjong music (art aspect), Christianity practices (religious aspects), and Mardijkers expressions (identity aspects). This research use Expressions of Religious Experience theory from Joachim Wach, and Functional Theory from Robert Merton. The Rabo-Rabo tradition is carried out for almost two weeks, starting from the Christmas prayer together until the key event of the year - bathing. The Rabo-Rabo tradition has the function of maintaining traditional culture, religious manifestations, and functions as social education for children.

Abstract

Women in the roko molas poco ceremony have an important position, because this ceremony is related to the values ??and symbols of Manggarai women. This ceremony is a rite of carrying (roko) the main pole of traditional house (siri bongkok) which is symbolized as a beautiful girl (molas) who comes from the mountain (poco) and paraded to the site of the traditional house (Mbaru Gendang). The purpose of this study is to find out the role of woman in the roko molas poco ceremony. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method with an ethnographic research model through observation, interviews, and literature studies. The theory used is role theory and ecofeminism theory. Based on research, the ceremony divided it four stages, namely preparation stage, implementation stage, construction stage, and the house blessing stage. The role of women in the ceremony is that women are involved in the molas poco pick-up group, as friends of molas poco and involved in the contruction of the drum house.
