Abstract

Neonatal mortality is a serious global health challenge, especially in countries with low levels of development. Neonatal mortality is the death of a baby born within 7 days of birth, also known as early neonatal/early neonatal and the death of a baby born alive more than 7 days to less than 29 days is called late neonatal mortality. In Indonesia itself, neonatal mortality is still a serious problem although there has been a decline in recent years. From a social demographic perspective, neonatal mortality will be related to factors such as maternal age, education level, economic status, and access to health services. An in-depth analysis of the data shows that social disparities such as access to quality prenatal care, medical care during labor, and neonatal care after birth all contribute to the rate of neonatal mortality. Disparities in access to health services and people's level of education may exacerbate the situation, increasing the risk of neonatal mortality among vulnerable groups.

Abstract

Patriarchal culture remains a major factor contributing to gender inequality across various aspects of life, particularly in the workplace. This social system positions men as the dominant group, while women are often placed in subordinate roles that limit their mobility and opportunities for growth. In professional settings, women face numerous structural barriers, ranging from discrimination in recruitment and wage gaps to limited access to leadership roles or strategic positions. Moreover, social expectations that place domestic responsibilities on women further burden them and restrict their participation in the professional sphere. Gender-based discrimination also frequently manifests in the form of stereotypes, disregard for contributions, and a lack of institutional policy support for equality. These issues create persistent disparities and hinder the full realization of women’s potential. This study aims to analyze the impact of the patriarchal cultural legacy on women's career development and to explore strategies, approaches, and policies that can foster a more just, equitable, and inclusive work environment for all.

Abstract

This study analyzes the phenomenon of romantic relationships occurring in the corridor of Al-Furqon Mosque at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), which are considered to deviate from the mosque’s function as a place of worship. A descriptive qualitative method was used, with interviews involving members of the Mosque Prosperity Council (DKM), students, and local vendors as primary data sources, and literature review as secondary data. The findings indicate that this phenomenon arises due to visitors’ low ethical literacy and a corridor environment that enables such behavior. Analysis using Hirschi’s Social Bond Theory reveals that weak attachment, commitment, involvement, and belief in religious values are the main causes. DKM regulations are considered ineffective due to lack of supervision and ethical education. The study recommends strengthening written regulations, providing religious value education, and fostering collaboration between DKM, students, and the community to maintain the mosque’s sanctity. The implementation of these measures is expected to improve supervision and raise collective awareness, ensuring Masjid Al-Furqon functions effectively as a comfortable and respectful place of worship for all.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the 3 Kg LPG subsidy policy in West Java Province from the perspective of policy sociology, focusing on its impact on community welfare and the accompanying social dynamics. The 3 Kg LPG subsidy was designed to ease the energy expenditure burden of poor households and improve access to affordable clean energy. However, its implementation faces several challenges, including mistargeting, unequal distribution, social dependency on subsidies, and limited public participation in the policy-making process. Using a qualitative descriptive approach and thematic analysis of interview data, observations, and policy documents, the study finds that the 3 Kg LPG subsidy policy reflects unequal power relations at the local level and results in structural injustice in energy distribution. Therefore, policy reform is required through improvements in data-based distribution systems, increased public participation, and a transition toward inclusive and equitable renewable energy. These findings provide important insights for the formulation of fairer and more sustainable energy policies in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the extent to which education plays a role in increasing social awareness amidst the dynamics of today's society. Social awareness—which includes the values of empathy, tolerance, and responsibility towards others—is a crucial element in creating a balanced and harmonious social life. Through a planned education system that focuses on societal values, individuals are expected to be able to build sensitivity to the social conditions around them. In its implementation, this study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a literature study approach. Data were obtained through a review of various academic sources such as scientific journals, books, and relevant articles, which discuss the relationship between education and the formation of social awareness. The analysis focuses on understanding the theory of character education, learning models, and educational policies that support the instillation of social values. The findings of this study indicate that education plays an important role in fostering social awareness. Key factors influencing this process include the integration of social values in learning, the role of educators as role models, and contextual learning methods. However, the implementation process still faces obstacles, especially in the education system that tends to prioritize intellectual aspects alone. Therefore, a comprehensive and balanced educational strategy is needed between academic development and social aspects.

Abstract

Family plays an important role as a foundation for shaping children’s character, attitudes, and intelligence. Parenting patterns, especially authoritarian or known as “strict parents”, have a major influence on children’s mental and social development. Although it can create obedient and high-achieving children, this parenting pattern also has the potential to cause psychological stress, anxiety, and inhibit social skills and self-confidence. This study aims to understand and examine how strict parenting patterns affect the behavioral development of Sociology Education students at Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University, and to highlight the importance of a balanced parenting approach between discipline and emotional support. The method used in this study is qualitative with a descriptive case study type. Data collection was carried out through interviews and observations. Based on the results of the study, strict parenting patterns can produce someone who is disciplined and responsible with the ability to face academic and social challenges. However, this parenting pattern also causes difficulties in independent decision-making, anxiety, and lack of social skills.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of fathers in supporting the mental health of Sociology Education students from the 2022 cohort at Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, this research delves into students’ subjective experiences regarding the emotional and psychological support provided by their fathers. The main focus is to examine how a father's presence, communication, and involvement contribute to students' mental stability in facing academic and social pressures within the university environment. The findings reveal that students who have a close and communicative relationship with their fathers tend to possess higher self-confidence, emotional stability, and stronger adaptive abilities. Conversely, the absence or lack of emotional involvement from fathers can lead to anxiety, loneliness, and even social withdrawal. These findings emphasize that a father's role is not limited to fulfilling material needs but also as an emotional support figure who plays a vital role in shaping psychological resilience in children, especially during the transitional phase into adulthood and independence.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze local wisdom-based mitigation practices carried out by the Tempur Village community, Keling District, Jepara Regency, in responding to the threat of floods and landslides. Using a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design, data were obtained through direct observation techniques, in-depth interviews, and archival documentation. The findings show that local communities utilize a combination of traditional knowledge, cultural values, and collective social practices as adaptive strategies for disasters. These forms of local wisdom include arranging settlements in highland areas, protecting forest areas as natural fortresses, and utilizing environmental signs as early warnings of disasters. Communal values such as togetherness, deliberation, and traditional rituals such as sedekah bumi help strengthen the community's social resilience in dealing with emergency situations. This approach has proven to be quite effective in reducing the negative impacts of disasters, as indicated by the low level of damage and loss of life when a disaster occurs. However, there are challenges in terms of passing on this wisdom to the younger generation, as well as the lack of documentation of existing local practices. Therefore, strong collaboration is needed between the government, community, and educational institutions to maintain, revitalize, and integrate local wisdom into a more sustainable disaster mitigation system.
