Abstract

The low quality and the quality of education in Indonesia is not a secret anymore. Even among ASEAN countries alone, the quality of education in Indonesia arriving under Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and even Filiphine. Issue low quality of education in Indonesia has often been a hot topic in various scientific forums, discussion will be the condition of education in Indonesia. Many efforts have been taken by the government with the enactment of Law No. 20 of 2003 on the National Education System, but it has not been able to resolve the problem of the quality of education in Indonesia. Today the efforts to improve the quality of education being conducted by various parties. These efforts based on an awareness of the importance of the role of education in the development of human resources and the development of national character (Nation Character Building) for the betterment of society and the nation. Dignity of a nation is determined by the quality of education. The way is to raise three potential natural base (word, wind, eyelash) humans.

Abstract

Developing IHDN Denpasar to be the State Hindu University has been the aspiration of the Hindu people in Indonesia. The development should be realized through developing the quality of the professionalism of the lecturer.. It plays significant role in improving the quality of the education. A lecturer is required to have a pedagogic competence, which is the skill of teaching, a personality, which includes character and maturity, a professional skill, which refers to the mastery of content and methods of teaching, and social skill, which is the ability in making interaction with students and people.

Abstract

Higher education institutions should adapt the development of science and technology in order to meet the society demand along the ages. They are expected to produce human resources with academic and leadership capability and ethics who are also adaptive to the technological development. In order to achieve that, the instituations are required to carry out quality research and social service programs that can improve the societies. The programs should be based on science and the implementation of the education and research with clear targets. However, in practice, the social service programs are often irrelevant to the society needs as well as to the fields of the lecturers and students involved in the programs. This proves the gap between the ideal and the real condition of the Indonesian higher education quality. The situation is influenced by several factors, including the poor management, economics, and social realities. In order to overcome them, a comprehensive program for developing the profesionalism of the lecturers is needed in which the government, the instituation, and the society are all involved. The Minister of Education and Culture Affair Regulation No 49/2014 regulates the standard for the social service, which is an important part of the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi. According to it, the program should be organized by the Social Service Board with its principles for institutionalism, education, cooperation, sustainability, social empowerment, and regional development.

Abstract

Facilities in education are not merely those that are used in the classrooms, such as the classbooks, boards, rulers, and other learning aids, but also the ones that indirectly support the education manajemen, such as the land and building. At least such facilities should be provided in accordance with the need and function of the school (Depdiknas, 2003). Fullfilment of the need for such supporting facilities will contribute to the quality of the educational service. There are three things that presumably can support directly the learning and achievement of the students, namely the availability of enough resources, educational aids,such as lab and workshop, and teaching medium. The absence of them will result in mere verbal teaching that cause the learning process to be less powerful. Students will only lean on the memoy for only learn to memorize things. It produces unauthentic learning pocess and situation and develop less learning experience. As the result the students acievement is low in all of its aspects, including the cognitive, attitude, skill, self-confidence, commitment, and competence.

Abstract

The teachers of Hindu religion classes play central role in the effort to reach the goalof the national education as well as to build the characters that include honesty, skillfullness,clean and good-heartedness, as described in the national standard of education regulationNo 20/2003 in which it states that the curriculum has to provide religious education (Pasal37 UU Sisdiknas). The government attention to the education is implemented too by theissue of the Regulation on Teachers and Lecturers which states that teachers are professionaleducators with main duty to educate, teach, guide, train, and evaluate the students in theformal elementary, secondary, and high schools (UU RI No. 14/2005) Purwanto(2004:10).Education is the intentional enlightening from the adult to the younger ones inrelation to their development in order to make them useful for themselves and in the society”The Indonesian national education systemas stated in UU No.2/1989 Bab, II, pasal 4,states that the goal of the education is to develop a complete Indonesia people who arereligious, good in their characters, have good knowledge and skills, healthy physicallyand mentally, independent, responsible for the society and nation. In line with that, theHindu teachers should refer to the Vedic teachings and consider the physical, psychological,and social environments of study, the life as students (Sisya/Brahmacari), their roles (Acarya),the curriculum, the mteaching methods, as well as the goal of the education. These allshould be centered on• teaching with the emphasis on directing and motivating to reach the character building• facilitating that through learning experience• helping to develop attitudes, values, and self adaptationAt schools teachers should commit themselves to be 1) role models, 2) inspirators, 3)motivators, 4) regulator, 5) evaluator besides having good vision. Without these all, thegoal of education will fail.
