Abstract

Drawing inspiration from the process theology, this article aims to develop a glocal spirituality in view of fostering an alternative perspective on the dynamics of globalization. While globalization has traditionally been understood and experienced as the homogenization of world cultures, leading to the diminishment of local cultures, I argue that it can also be perceived and lived as an opportunity for local cultures to express themselves on a global stage. Consequently, rather than being diminished, local cultures are enriched through their engagement in the dynamics of globalization through their encounter and interaction with other cultural traditions. This interaction not only enriches local cultures but also makes the global reality more pluralistic due to the contributions of diverse local cultures. In this context, globalization manifests as glocalization, an interaction between global and local contexts. However, this interaction requires a specific spirituality to sustain it. In this article, I further argue that process theology, inspired by the process philosophy of Alfred North Whitehead, could provide a framework for developing the spirituality necessary to support such glocalization dynamics. Keywords: the God of process; process theology; interconnectedness; glocal spirituality

Abstract

Abstract: This article discusses social exchange in the relationship between money and power, where money as an economic medium can direct power politically. The framework of thought used refers to Karl Marx. However, this research puts forward a method of critical thinking analysis, with a new approach to reading Marx as pioneered by the Frankfurt School. The steps taken include investigation, interpretation, and deliberation within the framework of a qualitative study. As a result, it appears that there is a development of Marx's theory of value from originally related to concrete work to be intertwined with abstract work through the mediation of money. This research also finds that the tangled threads of social exchange in relation to money and power are formed through fetishism. The worship of money as an independent value binds the existence of value to the form of money. This then manifests impersonal domination. Prioritization of money occurs at the expense or neglect of social relationships and human values. To overcome this tangle, it is necessary to reject the logic of capital, which makes everything rely on money.Fundamentally, this rejection refers to universal, particular, and singular frames in Žižek's review. Within this framework, the rejection of singular, specific individuals or groups, particularly operative organizational programs, and protest movements with broad universal alliances must work together to drive change. Keywords: Money, Power, Karl Marx, Social Exchange, Fetishism.

Abstract

Abstract: Indonesia has an invaluable cultural heritage, one of which is the existence of various indigenous religions that are widespread throughout the country. Despite their significant number, their presence is oftendisregarded by the majority of society who have adopted formal religions that are recognized by the state. Followers of indigenous religions are often deemed misguided by formal religion practitioners because theyperceive these ancestral religions as worshiping entities other than God, as recognized by their own religious tradition. This is exacerbated by the government's attempt to integrate indigenous religions into one of therecognized formal religions, which poses a threat to the preservation of the teachings and religious practices of indigenous religion followers as their religious practices will inevitably be influenced by the standardizations of the formal religions, which are essentially religions of foreign origin. All forms of discrimination arise, among others, from the weakness or inability of indigenous religion followers to explain their theological systems and concepts of divinity. Therefore, this study attempts to explain the concept of divinity in indigenous religions by using three casestudies: Sunda Wiwitan, Kaharingan, and Towani Tolotang. The results of this study show that there are authentic characteristics of divinity in each of the studied indigenous religion systems, which are specifically categorized as henotheism and Animism-Dynamism.Keyword: Indigenious Religions, Concept of Divinity, Henotheism, Animism-Dynamism

Abstract

Abstract: The right to marry and the right to practice a religion are fundamental human rights that are not mutually exclusive. The fulfilment of one does not necessitate the compromise of the other. However, in Indonesia, many couples from diverse religious backgrounds face complexities in exercising these rights due to the constraintsimposed by Marriage Law Number 1 of 1974, which does not explicitly accommodate interfaith marriages. According to this law, the legal recognition of a marriage necessitates a religious ceremony, and religious institutions often resist interfaith marriages. They typically urge couples from different religions to adopt a common faith to facilitate their acceptance into matrimony. This requirement often compels individuals to convert to their partner’s religion, thereby challenging their freedom of religion and belief. In the pursuit of a legally recognized marriage, individuals may find themselves coerced into relinquishing their religious freedom. This article examines the challenges faced in actualizing human rights and religious freedom in Indonesia within the context of interfaithmarriages. The methodology employed is Critical Discourses Analysis (CDA), a critical study based on text (in this case, Marriage Law No. 1/194) and context (random examples). Through critical analysis, this article posits that government regulations requiring legal recognition of marriages by religious institutions serve as an impediment to the fulfilment of religious rights and beliefs for citizens engaged in interfaith relationships. Consequently, this article advocates for amendments to the marriage regulations to actualize the human rights of freedom of religionand belief.Key words: Marriage, Human Rights, Indonesia, Marriage Law, Inter-religious Marriage

Abstract

This article is intended to reflect the life of the Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC) in the perspective of John 6:1-15. It has frequently occurred that when discussing the BEC, people typically refer to the passages found in the Acts of the Apostles as well as in Paul’s letters. It is very uncommon for Gospel stories to be applied as a reference in looking at the life of the BEC. The passage concerning the bread multiplication in the Gospel of John is an immense inspiring and meaningful story to comprehend the life of the BEC. In this story, Jesus multiplies bread not simply to meet the basic needs of the multitude, but also existentially transforms them from an anonymous group into a community in Him. This is brightly expressed in Jesus’ actions: gathering a lot of people, feeding them, then turning those people into invitees who “sat together” with Him. This noticeable action indirectly shows that He himself constituted the BEC and gave it the spirit of life. Therefore, the BEC life must be centered on an intimate relationship with Christ in the Word and Eucharist. Communion with Jesus is a source of life, strength and power in carrying out our mission as His followers in the world. Key words Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC), bread multiplication, Word and Eucharist, communion

Abstract

Abstract: Tractatus Politicus is a work of Spinoza's political philosophy which discusses regime models arranged in stages according to the level of use of reason: Monarchy is rational, aristocracy is more rational, and democracy is most rational. Spinoza, who is known as the prophet of reason, established rationality as a normative standard forthe three types of regimes. The rationality of a regime is measured by the size of the council which is tasked with discussing and controlling all state policies and Spinoza considers democracy to be the most rational because democracy allows for a people's council that is bigger than monarchy and aristocracy. Supomo adopted Spinoza's views as one of the philosophical sources for his state theory known as the "Staatsidee Integralistik". Interestingly, Spinoza saw democracy as the best model of government, while Supomo, who referred to Spinoza, actually rejected democracy. Simanjuntak then conducted a critical study of the philosophical source of the controversial “Staatsidee Integralistik”. However, Simanjuntak's study became more controversial, because he found that not only Supomo rejected democracy but also Spinoza. This study aims to respond to all these controversies and finds that while it is true that Supomo rejects democracy, it is not true that Spinoza rejects democracy. Spinoza was a staunch rationalist who supported democracy.Key words: Politics, democracy, theocracy, organistic state, integralistic state.

Abstract

Keywords:  allegory, politics, nature, morals, law, utility maximiser, publicity

Abstract

This paper explores the role of the Catholic Church in the cognitive revolution driven by science and digital technology, and its engagement with stakeholders in technological development. Using qualitative analysis, it proposes a framework of “prophetic dialogue” from the Catholic perspective to effectively engage with stakeholders. The framework is developed from the teachings of the Catholic Church on mission engagement, and the ideas of theologians Stephen Bevans and Walter Bruggemann, focusing on mission, prophetic dialogue, and prophetic communication. Analyzing the framework in the digital context reveals that prophetic dialogue is an appropriate and effective approach for engaging with stakeholders, including innovators, policymakers, and consumers. By employing prophetic dialogue, the Church can shape the future of technology while safeguarding against potential negative consequences. The paper highlights the Church’s proactive role in influencing technological development and offers insights for other religious stakeholders in navigating the challenges and opportunities of the digital future. Keywords: prophetic dialogue, digital technology, digital future, stakeholders, religious communication
