Abstract

Sanguis Martyrum Semen Christianorum. The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church. This well-known expression of Tertulian concerns the growth of the faith in times of great challenge. History notes that devotion to and worship of the Eucharist has long been present in the Western Catholic tradition, and in fact has grown whenever there has been harrassment and challenge. Adoration of the Sacrament is a form of devotion that can help one to experience the presence of God in one’s life and at the same time it can be an expression of deep love of Him who has errected his tent in the midst of his people. Thus, there is a close relationship between the Eucharist and devotion. Nevertheless, it must be remembered that eucharistic devotion must never replace the liturgical celebration of the Eucharist. In the order of ecclesial values, the liturgical celebration of the Eucharist has the first and highest place. Keywords: Adorasi, liturgi, devosi, gereja, sakramen mahakudus, penghormatan, ekaristi, puncak.

Abstract

This article describes and analyzes human trafficking in East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT) based on the news/data exposed by two local newspapers, Pos Kupang and Flores Pos, during the past four years (2010-2013). Employing media analysis (content analysis), the exploration of various news items on human trafficking in the two newspapers shows a significant increase in the number of cases in the province. Victims are mostly poor, of different ages but mainly women and children. Many agents played an important role and have employed various modes for recruiting victims. The main root of human trafficking in NTT is the system which allows the agents/actors of recruitment of migrant workers (PJTKI) to operate illegally in the province; individuals are victims of this system of recruitment. This study recommends that there should be a significant change in the system of recruitment and control in the NTT province in particular, and in Indonesia in general, to prevent and overcome the problem of human trafficking along with other efforts to empower the local people economically, socially and culturally by enhancing their knowledge, skills and mentality so that they are able to defend their own rights when being victimized by recruiters, whether individual agents or recruiting companies. Abstract

Is social justice or economic justice a utopia? This would be one of the questions that anyone might immediately raise as he/she reads Friedrick August von Hayek’s position on the idea of social or economic justice. As a classic liberal thinker, Hayek believed that the free market is the ideal economic system for it in nature promotes freedom and equality in a free and open society. Is Hayek’s defence of the free martket economy sufficiently convincing to eliminate any room for social or economic justice to take place? There is actually no free market in a pure sense. The market is not totally free from selfish interests that might be developed by market players themselves in doing business. It is therefore not reasonable to see the market as a purely spontaneous and independent entity. And since it is in fact open to selfish interventions, its outcomes may be just or unjust. Free competition, prompted systematically by the free market system, therefore, could risk human life. For this reason, state intervention to a certain extent is necessary to prevent market competition from endangering citizens’ economic prospects. The state’s intervention is important, as it is necessary, to secure social or economic justice. Social or economic justice is of course an ideal but not necessarily a utopia in a radical sense. Taking the unfortunates’ quality of life as the benchmark in designing and enacting economic policies, social or economic justice might be, at least partially, realized. John Rawls’ idea of maximin rule or maximin strategy can pave the way for the realization of such an ideal that every civilized person or society is essentially craving for. Kata-kata Kunci: Kebebasan, pasar bebas, katalaksi, spontan, impersonal, hukum, keadilan sosial, ekonomi komando, regulasi, maximin rule.

Abstract

This article is based on a book by Emanuel Martasudjita on Inculturation Theology. The author of this article supports thestatement of E. Martasudjita that inculturation of theology is not a new reality, but has been known and practicedthroughout the history of the Church. By expanding on the description given by Martasudjita regarding the stages in thedevelopment of history, the author of the article draws on the basic insight from that history that inculturated theology is notconstructed, but must grow in the reflections made by the faithful about their Christian faith, where they use the way ofthinking, they have according to the culture they live in.From the research on history, it is learned that changes in form in theology often occur based on different favorite ideasheld by different cultures, besides that there has also been the formation of new theology, where people with certain culturalbackgrounds learn theology from other cultures. In this case it is easy to misunderstand which can trigger a long discussionthat results in a new form of expression of the Christian faith.By taking the results of this historical research, the author highlights the situation of practice of faith and reflection of faithin the Flores island in South East Indonesia. Keywords: Inculturation, history of theology, local culture in Flores, Basic Ecclesial Communities

Abstract

Eucharistic participation among Catholic youth is increasingly influenced by complex, multi-dimensional motivations that cannot be accurately captured through conventional qualitative surveys. This study aims to quantify and hierarchically prioritize the fundamental factors motivating young Catholics in the Diocese of Manado to attend the Eucharistic celebration. This research employs a quantitative approach utilizing Operations Research models, specifically integrating the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Fuzzy-AHP. Data were collected through purposive sampling from 147 active young Catholics (aged 15–35 years). The integration of Buckley’s Fuzzy-AHP method was utilized to mitigate linguistic ambiguity in spiritual perception and to ensure mathematical consistency in pairwise comparisons. The synthesis reveals that the belief in the "Real Presence of Christ" is the strongest empirically identified motivation for Eucharistic participation, surpassing institutional compliance, familial habits, and communal peer influence. These findings provide an evidence-based diagnostic framework for diocesan pastoral planning. Rather than focusing solely on communal social gatherings, youth catechesis programs must strategically pivot towards profound liturgical formation, as theological depth is the most critical factor sustaining long-term youth engagement in the Church.

Abstract

This article presents Michael Sandel’s concept on the tyranny of meritocracy and reimagining of solidarity and itsrelevance in Indonesia. Meritocracy is a kind of ideology that believes that those who are successful deserve tobreathe their success to their heart’s content, while for those who fail, there is no one to blame but themselves.Sandel’s view is that this logic makes meritocracy undermines togetherness and solidarity as the ethical foundationof democracy. The more we think that our success is our own effort, and the poor people’s failure as their own fault,it is harder for us to imagine ourselves in someone else’s shoes. Meritocracy makes liberal society accepts as fairthe hierarchy between the rich and the poor, the smart and the stupid, or the successful and the unsuccessful. Thisbelief generates arrogance for the winners and contempt for the losers. For Sandel, Trump’s populism in the US is aform of rebellion against the tyranny of meritocracy. To counter the tyranny of meritocracy and cultivate theimagination of solidarity, we should propose the idea of humility as a public virtue. Humility is an acknowledgmentthat all our talents, achievements, and success are not the results of our own efforts but rather it depends on theresources of the community and society that accepts these talents and abilities. Keywords: Meritocracy, Solidarity, Liberalism, Community, Humility.

Abstract

This paper explores the interpretation of the Rosary through the philosophical thoughts of Simone Weil, highlighting its potential as a means of cultivating Weil’s living philosophy of “attention,” and by so presenting a spirituality of liberation that attempts to present in whole the twofold image of Weil as both a mystic and a radical. Through Weil’s theory of attention and her two-step philosophical method, which involves reflection on several personal experiences formed through the Rosary, this paper presents a practical formulation of Weil’s moral and religious teaching on attention, especially highlighting the potential for a spirituality of liberation —contributing to the progressive discourse in the philosophy of religion within the Roman Catholic tradition.

Abstract

The main focus of this research is to propose a hermeneutic method for the texts of the Antiphona ad Introitum (Entrance Antiphon) contained in the Roman Missal of Paul VI (1970) and to apply it to two texts from Dominica II in Quadragesima. The aim of this study is to demonstrate that, through this method, the theological meaning of the text can be thoroughly understood, thereby enabling the faithful to grasp the spiritual fruits contained therein. The conclusion reveals that the theological significance of an antiphon text is profoundly rich, thus requiring a hermeneutic method to help uncover these meanings. Naturally, the hermeneutic method proposed here does not claim to be the only suitable approach for interpreting the entrance antiphon, as the choice of method depends on the specific questions the interpreter intends to address; different questions require different methods. Accordingly, the study employs a literature review conducted with a historical and liturgical hermeneutic perspective.

Abstract

This article aims to investigate the communication between the ghosts of the dead and the living. It is quite commonthat the living talk to the ghosts of the dead through different rituals in the tradional religions. On the contrary, the studyabout communication between the ghost of the dead with the living is not very common. Therefore, a question in thisresearch is: “Is there any experience that the ghost of the dead talks to the living?” The assumption is that: there iscommunication between the ghost of the dead and the living. Using descriptive-qualitative method of research, the result ofthis study shows that there is communication between the ghosts of the dead and the living. The communication takes placethrough the medium of the paranormal in which the paranormal man or woman invites the ghost of the dead to talk to his orher family through paranormal man or woman or simply to get the message from the ghost. The communication also takesplace through dreams, and later on the message or messages that iare delivered in the dream become real or reallyhappened. Then, the communication of the ghost of the dead and the living is analyzed using postmodernism, fenomenology, and ethnometodology perspectives. Each perspective argues that the communication between the dead and the living isunderstandable and academically acceptable. Keywords: communication, dead, living, dream, paranormal, post modernism, fenomenolgy, and ethnomethodology.
