In his classic study of mission, David Bosch (1991) outlined three biblical paradigms of mission from Matthew, Luke and Paul. In this essay, the author proposes a further paradigm drawn from the Letter of James. James is viewed as a circular written for Jewish-Christian migrant communities to encourage them towards a mission ad intra and intra gentes. James makes six calls to radical conversion: he strenghtens the readers’ hope as they struggle against overwhelming odds, he then calls for conversion against greed and against ambition and power struggles, exhorting them not to be seduced by the values of society, and so leave behind their friendship with the world; he finally calls for faithcoherence. The essay concludes with four applications of the “James Paradigm” for the renewal of mission witness among Christians today. Di dalam esai ini penulis menampilkan paradigma Surat Yakobus. Yakobus menyajikan segi-segi yang tidak tampak dalam ketiga paradigma di atas, yang dianggap relevan dengan situasi kita saat ini. This essay looks at the dynamics between movement and institution, where each movement has to ripen in an institution and each institution has to be loosened again and again by new movements and inspirations. The author wishes to outline the dynamics between movement and institution by focusing on the credit union movement. At the beginning the development of the Church from a charismatic movement to an institution is outlined, which in time became extremely rigid. Then, the industrial revolution in the 19 century is looked at with its spirit of liberalism which produced the plight of the workers, which in turn triggered socialist movements which to overcome their plight by changing society radically. The appearance of the social teaching of the Church is seen as an effort to overcome the impasse of these two forces in the industrial revolution. On this background appeared the credit union movement, which embodied a number of the fundamental principles of the social teaching of the Church and is able to become an agent to loosen the structure of the Church hierarchy and support efforts in the country to hold back neo-liberalism and nurture democracy. In taking up the case of the largest credit union on Flores Island, the essay shows how the CU itself lies between the tension between movement and institutionalisation, while pointing out what needs to be done that this tension is maintained creatively, so that the CU is able to offer its spirit to the Church, and support democratisation in the country. At base, modern culture is a culture that evolves through the frame of managing non-violent normative conflict. With the acknowledgement of religious freedom as a basic human right, the state and religion have been distinguished institutionally: politics and the state no longer deal with truth, but rather with peace between people of different persuasions. In reality, the institutional distinction between religion and politics/the state has been translated into a variety of different political arrangements, including within the Muslim world; the relationship between politics and religion cannot return to a single (Western) model as the norm. Therefore an analysis of the correlation between religion and politics assumes an appropriate understanding about the relationship between religion and culture, for an analysis of the ties between religion and culture will more or less indicate the ambivalence of religion: on the one hand religions have the potential to critique culture; but on the other hand, religions play a very problematic role: they can take up a sacred form and tend to make absolute areas that are in fact relative, including politics. Religion refers to absolute truth and can be (mis)used in the interests of a religious political elite who collaborate with the political elite of the state which may be far from the key message of the religion in question. Nevertheless, an awareness of the ambivalence of religion and politics encourages us to collaborate between religions and cultures in order to lessen human suffering. Abstract: Radicalism seriously threatens modern pluralistic communities. In recent times, many national states have put in place strategic plans to fight against radicalism, or to lessen the impact of radical ideas or behaviour. This is known as the process of de-radicalisation. This isn’t an easy process there are many reasons behind the growth of radicalism. One of these is the simple acceptance of differences without trying to understand those differences and the similarities of the people of a country. This can be signified by, and caused by a process of uniformity, which can be seen in the system of education. With this in mind, this article proposes a strategic, effective campaign against radicalism, beginning with a model of multicultural education. Multicultural education promotes the principle of inclusiveness, diversity, democracy and critical thinking which is appropriate for a pluralistic country which enables the education of people to live in a multicultural community. Selama beberapa dekade terakhir, banyak negara di dunia menetapkan rencana-rencana strategis untuk berperang melawan radikalisme atau untuk mengurangi ide-ide atau perilaku radikal. Yang terakhir ini disebut dengan proses de-radikalisasi. Proses seperti ini tidak gampang karena banyaknya alasan di balik munculnya radikalisme dan salah satunya ialah karena adanya perilaku menerima begitu saja perbedaan tanpa ada upaya untuk memahami perbedaan dan kesamaan semua anggota dari sebuah negara. Hal ini ditengarai, disebabkan salah satunya oleh proses penyeragaman, termasuk dalam sistem pendidikan. Oleh karena itu, artikel ini menganjurkan sebuah kampanye strategis yang efektik untuk melawan radikalisme yaitu dimulai dengan merancang sebuah model pendidikan multikultural. Pendidikan multikultural mempromosikan prinsip inklusi, diversitas, demokrasi, dan pemikiran kritis yang cocok untuk sebuah negara plural yang memampukan peserta didik untuk hidup dalam sebuah komunitas multikultural. EKARISTI DI MEJA PERJAMUAN ESKATOLOGI | THE EUCHARIST AT THE ESCHATOLOGICAL TABLE Ignasius Ledot

Abstract This text critiques the concept of eucharist-eschatology which is found in two works by local NTT artists. Using an eschatological approach and a study of the document Sacrosanctum Concilium regarding liturgy, two important messages have been identified in those works. First, solidarity is an effort to share. This virtue is primarily seen in the attitude of God who left His/Her grandeur and took on the form of a human being. Second, the act of giving as a form of solidarity comes from an awareness of the missionary aspect of the vocation of the faithful. Via the artistic works of two local artists, the faithful are helped to consider and idealise the eschatological eucharist. These two works show the clear connection between the celebration of the eucharist in the world and the eternal eucharist, the place where humanity meets God who is both intimate but also majestic. Keywords: Church, Eucharist, Eschatology, Last Supper, Catechetics, Lord Abstrak Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengulas konsep ekaristi-eskatologi yang terdapat di dalam dua lukisan karya pelukis lokal NTT. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan eskatologi dan studi dokumen Sacrosanctum Concilium tentang liturgi ditemukan dua pesan penting dari dua lukisan tersebut. Pertama, solidaritas sebagai usaha untuk saling berbagi. Kebajikan ini pertama-tama tampak dalam sikap Allah yang memutuskan untuk meninggalkan keagungan-Nya dan mengambil rupa manusia. Kedua, aktus memberi sebagai bentuk solidaritas terlahir dari kesadaran akan aspek misioner dari panggilan umat beriman. Melalui karya lukis dua seniman lokal ini, umat dibantu untuk membayangkan dan mencita-citakan ekaristi eskatologi. Dua lukisan ini memperlihatkan hubungan yang jelas antara perayaan ekaristi di dunia dan ekaristi kekal, tempat manusia menjumpai Allah yang akrab sekaligus yang agung. This article aims at introducing the content and purpose of the Apostolic Constitution Veritatis Gaudium (Joy of Truth), namely the renewal of theological faculties and ecclesiastical institution of higher education. This renewal needs to be brought into the public sphere, so that it can be realized by paying attention to the sociocultural context of the local Church. By analyzing qualitatively data collected through the study of literature and employing the contextual theological approach, it is concluded that the Catholic Church in Indonesia, especially the theological faculties as well as Catholic higher education institutions need to intensify dialogue in theology and in preaching, to build solidarity, networking and interand trans-disciplinary cooperation with other institutions. Through dialogue theology will be more context-oriented and the preaching will be an invitation to others to deepen God’s self-revelation in the history, culture and the local social context. In this way, the Gospel or the Good News would be Joy of Truth (Veritatis Gaudium) for all people. Abstract: This paper proposes a new way of understanding celibacy. The world offers that the most important thing is an active and free life, that is, one cannot be a complete and warm human being in a relationshipwithout a genital sexual experience. The world underestimates celibacy and wants to prove that the choice of celibate life will result in compensation secretly, illegally, and will lead to destructive and manipulative relationships. The thoughts of John Paul II are relevant in an effort to offer a paradigm of sexual liberation, to develop, and to maintain for the creation of sexuality values and the call to life for the sake of the Kingdom of God. John Paul II’s thoughts on celibacy for the sake of the Kingdom of God in the perspective of theology of the body become material for reflection and input for people who live celibate to live in harmony with all the complexities of their bodies. This paper intends to highlight HIV and AIDS in the context of a culture of healthy living. The initial analysis underlines health care as a key responsibility of each individual. Thus, neglect of this responsibility invites a critique of our way of life which is itself sick. The reasons for and results from HIV and AIDS cannot be ignored. One important step to anticipate and overcome the HIV infection and AIDS sickness is to form an underlying positive attitude and establish a culture of healthy living, which supports a healthy lifestyle, is responsible, and sustains the value of life and healthy living. Many researches have been done concerning the contexts and the factors which effected the theology and character of John Calvin. At least three contemporary scenes should be considered as the dominant context when speaking about Calvin. First, the Rome from which the Reformer seceded; second, the Anabaptists; and third, the humanists especially Renaissance humanism. This essay looks at the core of Renaissance humanism, namely its emphasis on the Greek and Latin classics as the chief subject of study and as unrivalled models of imitation and in thinking and even in actual conduct. After a brief glance at Calvin’s education, this essay attempts to explain the influence of Christian French humanism on Calvin in his ethics and theology, and its ongoing relevance to our contemporary situation in Indonesia today. Setidaknya ada tiga hal mendasar yang harus dianggap penting sebagai konteks yang dominan ketika berbicara tentang Calvin. Pertama, Roma dari mana Reformer memisahkan diri; kedua, Anabaptis; dan ketiga, para humanis terutama humanisme Renaisans. Esai ini memperlihatkan inti dari humanisme Renaisans, yang bertitik tolak pada Yunani dan Latin klasik sebagai model tak tertandingi mengenai imitasi, hal berpikir, dan perilaku aktual. Setelah melihat sekilas pendidikan Calvin, esai ini mencoba menjelaskan pengaruh humanisme Kekristenan Prancis terhadap etika dan teologi Calvin, dan relevansi berkelanjutan bagi situasi kontemporer kita di Indonesia saat ini. It is not so easy to explain, let alone suggest solutions to the problem of human trafficking as a concrete challenge to basic human rights. As with other social problems that have multiple causes, so too does human trafficking have many causes. In this article the author intends to elucidate one important aspect in human trafficking, the susceptibility of women to become victims. By placing human trafficking within the context of violence towards women, the author intends to propose a response to the question regarding why women are so susceptible as victims.
