Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of women who sell used clothing on the socioeconomic conditions of households at Melati Market in Medan. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using a case study strategy. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation from nine informants selected using snowball sampling. The results show that these women engage in trade due to the instability of their husbands’ income as well as their desire to earn an independent income. Their economic contribution is significant, accounting for 30–100% of family income, with the primary priority being to meet their children’s educational needs. In juggling their dual roles as vendors and homemakers, they employ adaptive time-management strategies and advocate for a more equitable division of domestic tasks with their husbands. In addition to improving family well-being, economic independence also strengthens women’s position in decision-making, boosts their self-confidence, and fosters solidarity among the vendors. This study confirms that women who sell used clothing are key agents in sustaining their families’ socioeconomic well-being.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has made it easier for people to access various financial services, including online loans. The ease of the application process, simple requirements, and rapid disbursement of funds have made this service widely used, including among adolescents. However, low financial literacy, a consumptive lifestyle, and the influence of social media make adolescents vulnerable to using online loans without considering the risks that may affect their social lives. This study aims to examine the social impact of online loan usage on adolescents in Gaperta Street, Medan Helvetia District. This study employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving adolescents who had used online loan services. The results of the study indicate that the use of online loans among adolescents is influenced by the development of digital technology, consumptive lifestyles, and social pressure from peer groups. The impacts experienced include stress, anxiety, conflicts with parents, decreased family trust, changes in friendships, and declining academic performance and social participation. Thus, online loans not only create economic problems but also have negative effects on the psychological condition and social lives of adolescents.

Abstract

Cash waqf has emerged as an important Islamic social finance instrument due to its ability to encourage public participation, support productive asset management, and integrate with digital financial services. However, empirical findings on the determinants of cash-waqf participation remain diverse. This study systematically synthesises evidence on five key factors: religiosity, waqf literacy, trust in Nazhir, digital convenience, and waqf attitude. A bounded, systematic literature review analysed 26 journal articles published between 2020 and 2026, drawn from an initial corpus of 32 references. The findings were thematically interpreted through the lens of the Theory of Planned Behaviour and the Technology Acceptance Model. Results indicate that institutional trust and waqf literacy are the most consistent predictors of cash-waqf intention, while religiosity is influential but context dependent. Digital convenience facilitates participation, whereas attitude serves as an evaluative pathway linking knowledge, trust, and technology to intention. This review proposes an integrated framework that highlights literacy, credibility, technology accessibility, and positive evaluation as mechanisms that transform spiritual motivation into cash-waqf participation. The findings emphasise the need for transparent governance, effective literacy programmes, and reliable digital waqf platforms

Abstract

Sarafal Anam is a religious and cultural tradition practiced within the Tengah Padang community in Central Bengkulu Regency, Indonesia, combining religious recitation with collective verbal and nonverbal expression. This study examines how expressive communication is manifested in Sarafal Anam and interprets the cultural meanings embedded in its performance. A descriptive qualitative design with an ethnographic approach was employed. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with six purposively selected informants, and documentation, and interpreted using Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic framework of signifier and signified. The findings show that expressive communication is constructed through religious verses, synchronized bodily movements, facial expressions, rebana rhythms, and collective positioning. Religious verses communicate praise for Prophet Muhammad SAW, prayer, moral guidance, and devotion, while nonverbal expressions communicate togetherness, unity, discipline, cooperation, solemnity, and social solidarity. These expressive elements function as culturally recognizable signifiers understood through shared religious and social values. Sarafal Anam therefore operates as a multimodal and collective form of expressive communication in which religious devotion and social relationships are simultaneously expressed. Its continuity requires preserving both its performance forms and the intergenerational transmission of cultural meanings and community values.

Abstract

Providing supplementary feeding (PMT) based on local foods is an important strategy for improving the nutritional status of underweight toddlers. However, its implementation may be influenced by mothers’ knowledge, family support, and socio-cultural factors. This study aimed to determine the factors influencing local food-based supplementary feeding in improving the nutritional status of underweight toddlers in the Batauga Community Health Center work area in 2025. This quantitative study used a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of 100 mothers of underweight toddlers, with a sample of 80 mothers selected using simple random sampling. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that mothers’ knowledge (p = 0.000), family support (p = 0.000), and socio-cultural factors (p = 0.011) significantly influenced local food-based supplementary feeding. Mothers are encouraged to attend nutrition education, involve family members, and utilize local food resources to support improved toddler nutrition.

Abstract

Freedom of contract is a fundamental principle of contract law that ensures party autonomy and the binding force of agreements. In land sale agreements, however, contractual certainty may conflict with contractual justice when the performance of contractual clauses produces discrepancies in rights, obligations, performance, or risk allocation. This study analyzes the position of freedom of contract in ensuring legal certainty and determines the limits of its application in realizing contractual justice in land sale agreements. This study employs normative legal research using statutory and conceptual approaches. Legal materials are analyzed qualitatively through a prescriptive-analytical method. The findings demonstrate that freedom of contract performs two functions: an internal function, ensuring certainty regarding contractual rights, obligations, performance, objects, prices, and risks; and an external function, requiring contractual certainty to be integrated with the legal requirements governing the transfer and registration of land rights. The study further finds that the binding force of contract is not absolute. Good faith, propriety, and proportionality operate as substantive parameters for assessing contractual performance. Accordingly, contractual justice is not the antithesis of pacta sunt servanda but a substantive parameter that harmonizes contractual binding force with legal certainty in land transactions.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to develop an ICT-based bilingual guidebook for personal branding and professional communication at Arah Impian. To achieve this objective, Design and Development Research (DDR) was employed using the ADDIE model, which consists of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The data were collected through a needs analysis questionnaire, interviews, expert validation, and a user response questionnaire. The developed product consisted of a printed bilingual guidebook integrated with a supporting website, instructional videos, and QR codes. The guidebook covered four main topics: understanding personal branding, understanding personal potential, building personal branding, and implementing personal branding in professional and digital environments. The expert validation results obtained an overall mean score of 4.89, categorized as Very Good. The product was subsequently implemented during an Arah Impian sharing session and received positive responses from the participants. Therefore, the developed guidebook can serve as a supplementary learning resource for personal branding and professional communication.

Abstract

This study investigates how job satisfaction, perceived organizational support, and person-job fit shape organizational citizenship behavior through organizational commitment among civil servants of the West Sumatra Regional Police. A quantitative survey was conducted with 182 respondents selected using proportionate random sampling. Questionnaire data were examined with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling in SmartPLS 4. The measurement model satisfied convergent validity, discriminant validity, and construct reliability requirements. All direct relationships were positive and significant: job satisfaction, perceived organizational support, and person-job fit predicted both organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior, while organizational commitment also predicted organizational citizenship behavior. The indirect effects through organizational commitment were significant for all three antecedents, indicating partial mediation because the corresponding direct paths remained significant. The model explained 67.5% of the variance in organizational commitment and 77.2% of the variance in organizational citizenship behavior. These findings show that employee-organization reciprocity and employee-job compatibility operate together in strengthening discretionary contributions in a public-sector policing context.
