Abstract

The church is not only a building or building that is only used as a place of worship for Christians, but in the church it is also a place or forum for Christians to be able to grow together with each other, whether it is a spiritual or social form so that small communities are created even the largest. If the church is only understood as a building or building for worship, then it is likely to be considered not only as a terminology but also as a theological distort. So the church is a community of God, who has been called out of darkness into the light. The dynamics of church growth in Asia today are very diverse, and the problems of church growth are most affected by social problems, globalization, technological advancements, and cultural changes. In this context, it requires an important role of the church, namely from the way the church grows and the leadership of the church as an agent of change that is able to integrate Christian values with the demands of the times.

Abstract

The purpose of this writing is to help readers and the Church of God better understand the response and role toward the existence of homosexuality, and to serve as a reference for the Church in addressing cases of homosexuality. The goal is to produce an effective perspective and approach that the Church and society should take in serving and healing individuals suffering from homosexuality. In this study, the Biblical perspective on homosexuality is analyzed by referencing key texts such as Leviticus 18:22 and Romans 1:26-27, which are often used as the basis for conservative churches to oppose homosexuality. This research also examines the Church's response in the form of guiding individuals toward repentance, commitment to celibacy, pastoral counseling, as well as attention to the psychological aspects of homosexual individuals. Using a qualitative approach, this study highlights significant differences in the Church's response to homosexuality, where conservative churches emphasize repentance and the avoidance of homosexual relationships, while progressive churches are more accepting and supportive of inclusivity. This research is expected to provide insight into the Church's role in supporting homosexual individuals and building a more inclusive understanding in line with the teachings of Christ's love.

Abstract

Biotechnology has brought extraordinary advances in health, agriculture, and scientific research, but it has also raised complex ethical challenges, especially in human cloning technology. In the context of biotechnology, cloning refers to the creation of a genetic copy of an organism, and although animal cloning has been successfully carried out for research purposes and increasing agricultural yields, human cloning remains a controversial issue. Ethically, human cloning raises a number of questions regarding human rights, identity, and the potential misuse of this technology for unethical purposes, such as genetic programming or the creation of "design babies." This article examines various ethical views regarding the limits of the use of biotechnology, with a focus on human cloning. The research uses qualitative methods through literature study. Despite the efforts of scientists to continue developing human cloning, as Christians we must take a stand on this matter. The Bible teaches that God as the first initiator created humans in the image and likeness of God, in this case creating humans, God's sole right and obligation.

Abstract

The type of research used is qualitative research using a descriptive qualitative approach. The method used is the ethnographic research method. This data was collected by the author through a team of data collectors, all of whom came from each tribe in Malacca Regency. Not all tribes in Malacca Regency are interviewed, but in terms of sabate saladi customs, hamis batar ceremonies or rituals in the Fehan plains there are similarities. The results of the interview show that the adaptation of Catholicism to the local wisdom of Hamis Batar in Malacca Regency is a tradition of celebrating the corn harvest which has been passed down from generation to generation from ancestral times to the present, especially the first harvest at the beginning of the year/called batar tinan. There is an adaptation of Catholicism to the local wisdom of Hamis Batar in Malacca Regency, namely that the teachings of the Catholic Church are not conflicted with human traditions because the church was also born from human cultural traditions. There are similarities in the meaning of hamis batar with the Eucharistic prayer in the Eucharist celebration. The Hamis Batar ceremony is an expression of gratitude from the people for the results given by God.

Abstract

The ecumenical movement in Indonesia is a strategic effort to strengthen the unity of Christian churches from various denominations amidst the complexity of religious, cultural, and ethnic diversity. This paper explores the internal and external challenges faced in the development of ecumenism, including doctrinal differences, leadership conflicts, political, social, cultural pressures, as well as issues of pluralism and interfaith relations. Using the literature study method, this research presents the history of the ecumenical movement in Indonesia, starting from the era of the Council of Churches in Indonesia (DGI) until its transformation into the Persekutuan Gereja-Gereja di Indonesia (PGI). Various initiatives have strengthened the movement, such as the Oikumene Month program, the drafting of a common church order, collective diakonia projects, and interfaith cooperation. Inclusive theological education and inter-denominational dialog were also identified as key in dealing with differences and building harmony. With an approach based on love, solidarity and respect for diversity, the ecumenical movement has great potential to become an important pillar in promoting Christian unity and social harmony in plural Indonesia.

Abstract

This journal explores the role of the Church Unity Body in strengthening the unity of Christian faith. The Church, as the body of Christ composed of various members from diverse backgrounds and traditions, is called to unite in one faith, one teaching, and one way of life aligned with the teachings of Christ. This unity is crucial for maintaining harmony within the community of believers and for addressing social and theological challenges in the modern world. The role of the Church Unity Body is evident through Bible teaching based on enduring truth, participation in sacraments such as Holy Communion and Baptism, as well as collaboration among churches in social service and mission. In this context, the church functions not only as a place of worship but also as a community that supports spiritual growth and the well-being of its members. The unity of Christian faith requires mutual respect, forgiveness, and humility among church members. By strengthening this unity, the church can provide a clearer testimony to the world, demonstrating that in Christ, differences can be reconciled in love that transcends all. This article also highlights the importance of the church’s role in building a unity of faith that goes beyond denominational boundaries, within the framework of ecumenism, to realize the wholeness of the body of Christ and bring about transformation in the world.

Abstract

The significant increase in the elderly population in Indonesia, along with the rise in global life expectancy, presents new challenges for their well-being, both physically, emotionally, and socially. One of the main challenges faced is the sense of lost meaning in life, which is exacerbated by physical limitations, the loss of a spouse, and social isolation. This study aims to explore the role of spirituality in empowering the elderly to find meaning in life through a pastoral approach. Using a qualitative case study approach, this research identifies the challenges faced by the elderly and analyzes how spirituality and pastoral approaches can enhance their lives. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis, and were subsequently analyzed using thematic methods. The results show that spirituality provides the elderly with strength to face life’s challenges, such as prayer, worship, and involvement in faith communities. Effective pastoral approaches include emotional counseling, Bible teaching, and engaging the elderly in spiritual community activities. This approach helps the elderly discover new hope and purpose in life, allowing them to live their later years more meaningfully. This study contributes to the development of pastoral care for the elderly and strengthens the role of spirituality in supporting their well-being.
