Abstract

Understanding biostatistics is one of the essential foundations in nursing science. This is because it is closely related to the development of evidence-based nursing. This study aimed to assess nursing students’ knowledge of biostatistics. This descriptive analytic study was conducted among final-semester nursing students in November 2025. The sample size in this study was 64 participants, calculated using the Slovin formula with a 10% margin of error. Samples were selected using a consecutive sampling technique to examine students’ knowledge based on age, gender, semester, university admissions, personal biostatistics reference, and seminar/workshop experience. Descriptive and correlational data analyses were performed using SPSS version 22 software. The results of this study indicate that most students have good knowledge of biostatistics, and there is a significant correlation between ownership of personal biostatistics textbooks and students’ knowledge (p= 0.040). The findings of this study provide information for both students and institutions regarding the benefits of owning personal biostatistics references on knowledge and understanding. This may serve as a consideration when recommending personal ownership of references, given greater access to knowledge.

Abstract

Pucangsawit Village is the area with the highest incidence of flooding in the City of Surakarta, occurring up to six times per year, which increases the risk of health problems due to limited access to clean water and environmental sanitation. This condition highlights the importance of implementing Clean and Healthy Living Behavior as a preventive measure against post-disaster health issues. This study aimed to describe the level of knowledge and behavior related to Clean and Healthy Living Behavior among the community after flooding in Pucangsawit Village, Jebres District, Surakarta. A descriptive study with a quantitative approach was conducted. A total of 54 respondents were selected using proportional random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using univariate analysis. The results indicated that a majority of respondents had a high level of knowledge (83.3%) and demonstrated good practices (59.3%) regarding Clean and Healthy Living Behavior. These findings suggest that the community has adequate understanding and implementation of healthy living practices after flooding. It can be concluded that good knowledge plays an important role in shaping healthy behavior; therefore, continuous monitoring and health education are necessary to maintain and improve the application of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior in preventing health problems following flood disasters.

Abstract

Maternal Mortality Rate in Surakarta City increased to 41.04 per 100,000 live births in 2024, with anemia identified as a primary medical cause. Achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals depends heavily on controlling gestational anemia. Sangkrah Health Center records the second-highest number of anemia cases (72 cases), indicating a gap between 100% iron (Fe) tablet distribution and actual consumption rates. Compliance is crucial to prevent complications but remains hindered by maternal characteristics. Objective: This study is designed to provide an overview of the respondents' characteristic profiles and their level of compliance in consuming Fe supplements. Using a descriptive quantitative design, this study involved 74 pregnant women in their second and third trimesters, selected through purposive sampling. Results: Most respondents were aged 21-34 years (78.4%), had high school education (60.8%), were multigravida (55.4%), and were unemployed (75.7%). Regarding compliance, 55 respondents (74.3%) were compliant, while 19 (25.7%) were non-compliant due to forgetfulness and side effects. Conclusion: Most pregnant women are compliant; however, the non-compliant group requires intensive intervention. Puskesmas should improve counseling frequency and utilize digital monitoring to bridge the gap between distribution and consumption.

Abstract

Hypertension is a major global health problem and increases the risk of cardiovascular, renal, and cerebrovascular diseases if not properly managed. This study aimed to determine the effect of warm water foot soak therapy on blood pressure in patients with hypertension. This study used a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design. A total of 30 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. The intervention was administered for 15 minutes for five consecutive days using water at a temperature of 39–42°C. Blood pressure was measured before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results showed a significant decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure after the intervention (p = 0.000). Warm water foot soak therapy is effective as a complementary non-pharmacological intervention for controlling blood pressure in patients with hypertension.

Abstract

The postpartum period is a critical phase in reproductive health because the risk of closely spaced pregnancy increases when appropriate contraception is not used. The coverage of postpartum contraceptive use remains suboptimal and is influenced by multiple factors, including husband support in the decision-making process. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between husband support and the use of postpartum contraception based on recent empirical evidence. Methods: This study applied a literature review method by analyzing 10 research articles obtained from PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect using the keywords "husband support," "postpartum contraception," and "postpartum family planning" published between 2021 and 2026. Inclusion criteria were primary research articles-quantitative or mixed methods design, full text availability, and articles written in English or Indonesian. Results and Discussion: Most studies used a cross-sectional design with Chi Square and logistic regression analysis. The majority of articles reported p values less than 0.05, indicating a significant relationship between husband support and postpartum contraceptive use. Influential forms of support included emotional, informational, instrumental, and joint decision-making support. Several studies also reported that women who received strong husband support were more than twice as likely to use postpartum contraception. Conclusion: Husband support is a key determinant in increasing the use of postpartum contraception. Integrating couple-based counseling into antenatal and postnatal care is necessary to strengthen the effectiveness of postpartum family planning programs.

Abstract

Managing hypertension becomes significantly more complex when diabetes mellitus co-occurs, often leading to poorer clinical outcomes and higher healthcare costs. This research investigated the prevalence of diabetes comorbidity among hypertensive patients at advanced referral health facilities and its relationship with patient age. Using a cross-sectional approach, we analyzed 5,505 records from the 2025 Indonesian National Health Insurance (BPJS Kesehatan) sample data for patients presenting with a primary diagnosis of hypertension. The overall prevalence of comorbid diabetes was 9.3% (510 cases). Within this cohort, 57.6% (3,172) were non-elderly (<60 years) and 42.4% (2,333) were elderly (?60 years). Diabetes prevalence was 9.6% in the elderly group and 9.0% in the younger demographic. The Pearson Chi-Square analysis confirmed no significant association between age category and diabetes (p = 0.459). These findings suggest that the risk of comorbid diabetes among referred hypertensive patients remains consistent regardless of age. Therefore, we recommend universal endocrine screening for all hypertensive referrals to prevent delayed diagnosis and improve targeted interventions, rather than relying on age-based screening protocols.
