Abstract

Purpose – Despite the increasing significance of character education within the context of Islamic education, there is a discernible gap in scholarly discussions on this subject. This study aims to address this void by offering a bibliometric and bibliographical review concerning character education via Islamic pedagogy. Design/methods/approach – Employing a bibliometric analysis approach, this research scrutinized 117 documents extracted from the Scopus database, spanning 2007 to 2023. The analytical tools employed include performance, co-citation, co-word, and co-authorship metrics, facilitated through VOSviewer and PoP software. Findings – The investigation highlighted a moderate uptick in publications about Islamic education from 2007 to 2023. However, citation trends within Islamic education studies fluctuated between 2007 and 2023. This review also identified the pivotal documents, nations, authors, sources, and affiliations that have substantially impacted the growth trajectory of Islamic education research. Research implications – The insights derived from this study underscore the potential of Islamic education in fostering positive attitudinal shifts in students. As character education strives to mold virtuous habits, Islamic education serves as a conduit by instilling Islamic values, thereby facilitating the cultivation of commendable character traits by rectifying detrimental behaviors and mindsets.

Abstract

Purpose – This research undertakes an exploration of the factors shaping the evolution and continuity of the Islamic Cultural History (SKI) curriculum in madrasahs between 1973 and 2013. It zeroes in on five predominant influences: political, economic, social, cultural, and ideological. Design/methods/approach – A historical research method was the primary tool, with data from various written records—comprising legal documents, regulations, and textbooks. A chronological lens was employed for analysis, with categorizations influenced by pertinent regulations and the prevailing zeitgeist. Findings – Of the factors, political dimensions, especially government stances and policies, took precedence in curriculum development. Furthermore, aspects like economic strides, prevailing social conditions, and national ideologies such as Pancasila (Indonesian state philosophy) bore significance in shaping the curriculum. The insights gathered suggest a pivotal role of socio-political dynamics and scientific progress in dictating madrasah curriculum changes. Research implications/limitations – While this investigation furnishes deep insights into a specific period, its temporal scope poses limitations, suggesting a potential exploration post-2013 and scrutiny of other influencing variables.

Abstract

Purpose – This research explores the pivotal role of social support in augmenting leadership efficacy at Pesantren Bahrul Ulum Jombang, a prominent Islamic educational establishment in Indonesia. Design/methods/approach – Adopting a qualitative case study approach, data was accrued through semi-structured interviews and observation. Rigorous measures, including data triangulation and member-checking, were instituted to bolster the study's credibility and authenticity. Findings – Four core categories of social support emerged: Emotional, Instrumental, Informational, and Appraisal. These types, while distinct, collaboratively underpin leadership potency. Specifically, Emotional support markedly amplifies self-assuredness and judicious decision-making, whereas Instrumental support optimizes operational processes. Informational support is pivotal in tactical problem resolution and discerning decision-making, while Appraisal support consolidates the institution's reputation and garners community faith. Research implications/limitations – These insights have profound ramifications for understanding leadership within Islamic educational contexts, especially in Indonesia. To fortify educational leadership, stakeholders and policy framers are urged to weave social support paradigms into overarching educational directives. Nonetheless, the research's concentration on one establishment and the absence of extended temporal data serve as its primary constraints.
