Abstract

The prevalence of cervical cancer in Indonesia is increasing, reaching 1.79 per 1000 population. According to the Global Cancer Observatory 2018 data, cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women in Indonesia, with a prevalence of 32,469 cases or 9.3% of the total cases. This issue arises because many adolescents do not maintain proper personal hygiene during menstruation. Women who lack proper personal hygiene have a 19,386 times greater risk of developing cervical cancer compared to those with good personal hygiene. Cervical cancer prevention in adolescents is carried out by maintaining genital hygiene properly. The study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge about cervical cancer and genital personal hygiene behavior among adolescents. Cervical cancer is the growth of abnormal cells in the cervix. Genital personal hygiene behavior involves maintaining individual cleanliness and health. The research design is correlational with a cross-sectional approach. The study population comprises 392 adolescent girls, with a sample of 195 adolescent girls selected using purposive sampling technique. The validity test using the Pearson product-moment showed all results to be valid with a P value < 0.05. The reliability test for the knowledge variable is 0.623, and for the behavior variable, the r value is 0.865. The study results show that most adolescents have fairly good knowledge (41.5%) but poor hygiene behavior (54.4%), with a Chi-Square P value = 0.000. There is a relationship between knowledge about cervical cancer and genital personal hygiene behavior among adolescents. It is recommended for Selabatu Health Center to conduct outreach on cervical cancer to improve adolescents' personal hygiene practices.

Abstract

Nurses' participation in nursing research is essential to support evidence-based practice. However, the level of nurses' involvement in research is still low. This study aims to identify the level of nurses' participation in nursing research, available resources, and barriers that influence it.. The study used a quantitative descriptive design with a sample of 332 nurses from various healthcare facilities on Timor Island. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire in a Google form and analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the highest involvement of nurses in research was as data collectors (49.1%) and research members (47.6%). In comparison, participation in proposal-making (32.8%), data analysis (34.6%), international publications (14.5%), and international conference presentations (15.4%) were still very low. Most nurses had access to training (76.5%) and supporting resources (75.9%). However, the main barriers included the perception that research was not relevant to nursing practice (85.8%), research was considered uninteresting (84.1%), and a sense of intimidation when conducting research (76.4%). Personal and institutional barriers cause low participation of nurses in research despite adequate resources. Strategies such as improving research training, developing a research culture in the workplace, and incentive policies are needed to increase nurse involvement in nursing research.

Abstract

Social media has become one of the potential educational tools in improving adolescent nutritional knowledge. This study aims to analyze the use of social media as an interesting and innovative means of nutritional education for high school, vocational school, and Islamic high school students. The method used is a literature review of scientific articles obtained through databases such as Academia.edu, SpringerOpen, Google Scholar, and SINTA. The results of the analysis show that social media-based education, such as Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, can significantly improve adolescent knowledge about balanced nutrition. This increase occurs through creative approaches such as the use of videos, comics, and interactive games that can motivate adolescents to understand the importance of nutrition in everyday life. These findings emphasize the importance of utilizing social media as an effective educational tool to support positive behavioral changes related to nutrition in adolescents. Thus, social media-based education strategies can be an innovative step in facing the challenges of adolescent nutrition in the digital era.

Abstract

Understanding of the etiology of oral cavity disease in various fields of science has increased. These improvements are demonstrated in various studies conducted to increase the success of treatment. However, preventive intervention strategies are not sufficient to reduce the number of populations with oral cavity diseases. Adequate prevention can reduce morbidity and treatment costs for disease. The aim of writing this article is to increase clinician's understanding of oral disease prevention strategies, both in the fields of periodontics, dental conservation, prosthodontics and orthodontics

Abstract

Air pollution can lead to exposure to substances from exhaust gases. Carbon monoxide (CO) and lead (Pb) are harmful substances that can negatively impact the health of outdoor workers. Workers such as street sweepers and waste collectors are particularly susceptible to these exposures due to their daily street activities. Therefore, health assessments, such as hemoglobin (Hb) examinations, are essential. This study involved a literature review, distribution of questionnaires, interviews with the research population, laboratory tests, and analysis of the results. The study included 67 respondents, the majority of whom were male (97%) and in the productive age group of 21–40 years (62.7%). Most respondents worked more than 8 hours daily (91%), increasing their risk of exposure to hazardous substances. The results showed that 65.7% of respondents had normal hemoglobin levels, 32.8% had elevated levels, and 1.5% had low levels. Workers' knowledge about the dangers of Pb and CO (70.1%) showed no significant correlation with hemoglobin levels. However, knowledge remains crucial for encouraging protective behaviors such as the use of personal protective equipment. This study highlights the importance of education and safety training to protect the health of outdoor workers.
