Abstract

Plate Heat Exchanger (PHE) is an element that has an important role in energy efficiency in PT. XYZ. At PT. XYZ there is a problem with the PHE device, where the flow rate of the hot fluid in the device tends to decrease over time, this can cause the heat transfer between the hot fluid and the cold fluid to be sub-optimal resulting in a decrease in the performance of the device. The performance of PHE equipment can be seen from its effectiveness, if PHE performance decreases it can cause an increase in energy consumption so that the cost incurred also increases. This study aims to calculate the effectiveness of PHE type 605A used as a heat exchanger between crude palm oil and bleached palm oil refined at PT. XYZ and current effectiveness is around 81.77% - 86.13%. However, the efficacy of PHE decreases over time and is expected to decrease to 75% on day 11. Recommendations that can be given in this study are routine maintenance and cleaning, real-time monitoring of the performance of the plate heat exchanger, and a review of the workload of the plate heat exchanger system.

Abstract

A palm oil company in Dumai carries out a refining process aimed at converting crude palm oil (CPO) into edible oil. The refining process involves several steps, including gum binding (degumming), bleaching with bleaching earth, and the removal of certain components (deodorization). During the process, oil losses often occur, particularly during the bleaching and deodorization stages. The lost oil is typically discarded along with Spent Bleaching Earth (SBE) and Palm Fatty Acid Distillate (PFAD). Therefore, it is necessary to calculate the total oil losses during the refining process and the yield of RBDPO products, as well as to identify the factors that influence the oil losses and RBDPO yield. Analysis shows that the Total Oil losses in the refining process range from 0.12% to 0.22%, and the yield of RBDPO obtained ranges from 94.7% to 95%. Oil losses in Spent Bleaching Earth (SBE) are directly proportional to BE dosing in the bleaching process. Meanwhile, deodorized oil losses are inversely proportional to the purity of PFAD. The yield of RBDPO is influenced by total oil losses and the FFA content of CPO as raw material. The total oil losses and the FFA content of CPO as raw material are inversely proportional to the RBDPO yield.

Abstract

The content of humic acid in the soil is important to determine because humic acid plays a very important role in influencing soil fertility, soil and water chemistry. The use of commercial humic acid is one way to improve the condition of degraded soil and minimize the possibility of losing nutrients from organic fertilizer due to leaching or evaporation. The humus extraction process produces commercial humic acid whose content differs according to the region where the humus is sourced. The content of commercial humic acid is determined gravimetrically, but in this study the humic acid content of commercial humic acid was determined by comparing two analytical methods, namely gravimetry and UV-Vis spectrophotometry. In this research, wet extraction of humic acid was carried out using a mixture of 4% Na4P2O7 and 0.1N NaOH. The average value of humic acid content determined using the gravimetric method was 64.9396% and 29.5193% when tested using the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method. Based on the CoA (Certificate of Analysis) the standard value of humic acid is 50%, so it is concluded that for determining humic acid contents by the gravimetric method is better than the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method.

Abstract

Traditional food is one of the regional tourist attractions, so its quality needs to be improved through increasing shelf life and attractive packaging. Sie reuboh is processed meat with a traditional recipe typical of Aceh Besar. This menu is a festival menu, which means beef boiled together with lard, palm vinegar and spices. The addition of vinegar makes the taste of sie reuboh very distinctive and also increases its shelf life at room temperature. Therefore, this research examines the potential of ready to eat (RTE) sie reuboh by observing changes in quality after being stored for 29 days packaged in aluminum foil packaging at refrigerated room temperature (25-27°C) and refrigerator temperature (5-8°C). The quality parameters observed were water content, pH, TBA value and sensory quality of sie reuboh every week (0, 8, 15, 22 and 29 days of storage). The test results showed that during 29 days of storage, there was a decrease in pH and an increase in TBA values, water content and total microbial fluctuations. Observation results showed that sie reuboh stored at a temperature of 5-8°C had better quality after storage for 29 days than that stored at a temperature of 25-27°C.

Abstract

Record is an important aspect to a company’s administration. In the import export department at PT Semeru Karya Buana, this matter is even more significant because of its role as one of the requirements from government to acquire the economical facilities and advantages as a bonded zone company. In the beginning of 2023, company have a lot of reimport, which needs records’ retrieving related to the transaction. But, because of the inexistence of sufficient record management system, it has become a problem in effectiveness and efficiency. That’s why, the existence of an electronic records management system enables the company to do records-related activities like storing, searching and retrieving of records easier compared to a conventional records management system. The design of this electronic records management system is based on System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) waterfall model and black box testing. The data used in this research are the results of writer’s observation while having the second and third period industrial practice in 2023. The research results show that this electronic archive management system is able to provide a more efficient mechanism for searching and retrieving documents. This system has proven to be a better alternative for archiving activities in the export-import department of PT. Semeru Karya Buana compared to the conventional archiving methods previously used.

Abstract

Deodorization is a crucial stage in palm oil refining aimed at removing components that cause odor and flavor, such as free fatty acids (FFA) and peroxides. This process utilizes high temperatures and vacuum pressure in a prestripper machine. The study evaluates the impact of temperature and vacuum pressure on the quality of the resulting oil. Findings indicate that the optimal temperature for deodorization is approximately 267°C with a vacuum pressure of 2.8 mbar, effectively reducing FFA levels below 0.1% and improving oil color. Excessive temperatures or inadequate vacuum pressure can increase FFA levels and darken the oil, thereby compromising product quality. Precise control of operational conditions during the deodorization process is essential for ensuring palm oil meets industry quality standards, reducing energy waste, and enhancing production efficiency. In conclusion, accurate regulation of temperature and vacuum pressure is vital for consistently producing high-quality oil.

Abstract

Padang City is one of the areas with the largest production of caught fish in West Sumatra, reaching 20,191.56 tons or worth IDR 479,442,842,000 in 2021. Fishermen's fish production is influenced by season and weather; if the weather is bad, the number of catches decreases, while during the harvest season, there is an oversupply which causes a lot of fish to be stored in cold storage. Apart from that, the flow of fish caught is not yet clear, causing the use of cold storage to be not optimal. This research aims to ensure that fish catches can be distributed optimally to final consumers, optimize the use of cold storage, and stabilize fish prices on the market to improve the fishermen's economy. The research method used is descriptive and qualitative methods with data collection techniques through field observations and interviews. The research results show that the supply chain for caught fish at the Bungus Fishery Port consists of a supply chain network for large and small catches. This network has three supply chain flows: the flow of goods, information, and money.

Abstract

One of the pulp processing industries in North Sumatra has the basic raw material of the eucalyptus tree. Based on observations in the fiber line department in 2020, there is a difference between the period of required capacity and the period of existing capacity, where the required capacity is greater than the existing capacity. This is because the processing time is quite long and the company's expenditure target is too high. Analysis of existing capacity will be carried out against the required capacity using the RCCP (Rough Cut Capacity Planning) method. The maximum effective output obtained by the company based on the company's current capacity is 139,429 tons and after adding working days the maximum effective output that the company can produce is 186,286 tons. Where after increasing working days the capacity of the company increases. The solution to achieve the capacity required by the company is to work overtime, subcontract with other companies, adjust the production plan by reducing the production target according to the existing capacity period, carry out scheduled machine maintenance, and in the long run, replace the machine during washing. and workstations for refining, bleaching and pulping machines.

Abstract

One of the factors that can affect the production process on the palm oil industry production floor is the decreasing effectiveness of the performance of production machines, including ripple mills. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of ripple mill performance using Overall Equipment Effectiveness. This method uses three basic ratios: availability ratio, performance ratio, and quality ratio. The results of this study indicate that the Overall Equipment Effectiveness value obtained on the ripple mill machine in one of the palm oil industries in North Sumatra is still below 41.45% while the international OEE standard is 85%. The damage that is often encountered is a decrease in machine speed and rotor wear so that the rotor plate is blunt and causes ineffective breaking.
