Abstract

This study explores the use of speech acts in President Prabowo Subianto’s SPIEF 2025 speech by applying Austin’s Speech Act Theory within a qualitative descriptive framework. The research aims to identify the types, frequency, and functions of speech acts, with a particular focus on commissive and expressive acts in relation to Indonesia’s domestic priorities and international diplomacy. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s Interactive Model (1994), which involves three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Findings reveal that assertive acts dominate the speech, serving to establish credibility and frame Indonesia’s socio-economic context, while commissive acts highlight Prabowo’s commitments to food security, industrialization, and anti-corruption. Expressive acts, including gratitude, pride, and apologies, are strategically used to foster rapport and strengthen diplomatic relationships. The study concludes that Prabowo’s discourse integrates factual assertions, policy commitments, and emotional appeals to balance domestic development goals with global collaboration, demonstrating a rhetorical strategy that blends assertiveness with diplomacy.

Using a qualitative literature review method, this research synthesizes findings from empirical studies, theoretical papers, and pedagogical reports related to language exposure, immersive learning, and English teaching practices in Indonesia. The results reveal that successful English environments are characterized by consistent classroom exposure, technology-assisted learning, school–home collaboration, and communicative activities that reduce anxiety and increase engagement. However, several challenges persist, including limited resources, inadequate teacher proficiency, learners’ psychological barriers, and weak parental involvement. These findings highlight the need for more systemic and integrative approaches to strengthen English exposure for Indonesian learners.

This study analyzes the effect of using fable stories on the ethics of politeness of seventh-grade students in learning Indonesian. The background of the study was driven by the issue of declining ethics of politeness of students due to exposure to negative digital content. Fables were chosen as an effective media because they contain moral messages through animal characters, making them interesting and appropriate to the stage of students' cognitive development. This study used a Quasi-Experimental Design with a One Group Pretest-Posttest model. The research sample consisted of 54 seventh-grade students. The learning outcomes of ethics of politeness were measured through pretest and posttest. The data were then analyzed using a t-test after fulfilling the normality and homogeneity tests. The results showed a significant increase in the average score, namely from 69.9 (pretest) to 82.8 (posttest). The results of the t-test showed that the calculated t-value (9.6) was greater than the t-table (1.6736). The hypothesis was accepted, which concluded that the use of fables was effective in improving students' ethics of politeness. These findings confirm that fables are a valid strategy for shaping students' character and ethics.
