Abstract

Mujahid ibn Jabr (d. 102 AH) is one of the most prominent tabiʿīn scholars whose tafsir has had a lasting influence on the development of Qur’anic exegesis. As a close student of Ibn ʿAbbās, Mujahid became a key transmitter of tafsīr bi al-maʾthūr, emphasizing narrations from the Prophet, his Companions, and early generations. His work, although not systematically codified in his lifetime, was later compiled and became one of the earliest references in Qur’anic interpretation. This study examines the methodology and validity of Mujahid’s exegesis through textual analysis and critical evaluation of sanad and matn. The findings indicate that while his interpretations include strong, weak, and even very weak chains of transmission, they remain widely accepted among classical and modern scholars, particularly when consensus exists among the tabiʿīn. Mujahid’s ijmālī style, combining concise explanation with occasional ijtihād, demonstrates both his fidelity to transmitted knowledge and his openness to reasoned interpretation. This underscores the enduring importance of his tafsir in the historiography of Qur’anic studies and highlights its relevance for contemporary scholarship.

Abstract

Muslims in the Sunda region accept Islam and the Sundanese language as two coexisting entities that can complement and adapt to each other. Islam is integrated into religious life with a Sundanese nuance, while Sundanese cultural activities are also shaped and influenced by Islamic values. This research aims to explore the linguistic style used by KH. E. Abdullah in interpreting the Qur’an, specifically in Surah Al-Insan, allowing us to understand and comprehend the essence of his interpretation. In conveying the message within his interpretation, various linguistic styles are employed to enhance the systematic delivery of the content. This study uses a stylistic approach, particularly focusing on figures of speech, including comparative figures, where language is processed by comparing one thing with another. The method used in this research is content analysis. Content analysis is an in-depth study of the content of written or printed information in mass media. The pioneer of content analysis is Harold D. Lasswell, who introduced the technique of symbol coding—systematically recording symbols or messages and then interpreting them. The interpretation of Surah Al-Insan by KH. E. Abdullah predominantly follows the Tahlili method. The stylistic elements in his interpretation include tautology (5 instances: verse 4 Salasil wa Aghlalan, verse 4 Salasil wa Aghlalan, verse 4 'Atadna, verse 7 Yuufuuna binnadzri), allegory (6 instances: verse 5 Al-Abroor, verse 11 Fawaqohum, verse 11 Fawaqohum, verse 11 Al-yaum, verse 12 Jazaa, verse 27 'Ajilah), and metaphor (1 instance: verse 27 'Ajilah). Thus, it can be concluded that the comparative stylistics used by KH. E. Abdullah in his interpretation encompass a significant portion of the linguistic styles found in the interpretation of QS. Al-Insan.

Abstract

Imam al-Ghazali, ulama besar asal Iran yang hidup pada abad ke-11, memiliki kontribusi signifikan dalam bidang tasawuf, filsafat, fikih, dan ushul fikih. Salah satu gagasan pentingnya adalah tentang Maqasid al-Qur'an, yang dijelaskan dalam kitab Jawahir al-Qur'an. Al-Ghazali menguraikan bahwa tujuan utama al-Qur'an mencakup pengenalan kepada Allah (Ma'rifatullah), jalan menuju Allah (Tariq Suluk), keadaan manusia di akhirat, serta pelajaran dari kisah-kisah umat terdahulu. Pemikirannya menekankan aspek spiritual dan sufistik, berbeda dengan konsep Maqasid Syariah yang lebih berfokus pada tujuan hukum Islam. Pendekatan al-Ghazali yang menggabungkan filsafat, tasawuf, dan syariat memberikan kontribusi besar dalam pengembangan tradisi keilmuan Islam secara holistic.

Abstract

Isu poligami dalam Islam terus menjadi perdebatan, baik dalam ranah hukum maupun etika, terutama terkait dengan pemaknaan terhadap ayat ayat yang dianggap melegitimasinya. Meskipun Al-Qur'an memberikan ruang bagi praktik poligami, teks tersebut juga menekankan keharusan berlaku adil-yang secara eksplisit dinyatakan sulit tercapai. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji perkembangan makna poligami dalam Al-Qur'an berdasarkan QS. An-Nisa [4]: 3 dan QS. An-Nisa [4]: 129 melalui pendekatan semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce. Kedua ayat ini menciptakan ketegangan hermeneutik antara kebolehan poligami secara terbatas dan pengakuan atas keterbatasan manusia dalam menegakan keadilan emosional. Dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif berbasis studi pustaka, kajian ini menganalisis teks ayat tafsir klasik (Ibn katsir), tafsir reformis (al-Manar), dan pemikiran kontemporer (Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd). Hasilnya menunjukan bahwa makna poligami mengalami proses semiosis -yakni pergeseran dan perkembangan interpretasi yang bersifat progressif. Dari kebolehan bersyarat menuju prefensi etis terhadap monogami, pembacaan ini menegaskan bahwa makna ayat tidak statis, melainkan terbuka terhadap penafsiran baru yang lebih kontekstual dan berorientasi keadilan.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the relationship between the values of spiritual education derived from Q.S. Al-A’raf: 172 and the strategy for strengthening religious moderation, particularly in the context of shaping the religious character of Generation Z. Spiritual education, which emphasizes human awareness of the primordial covenant with Allah, serves as a crucial foundation in forming a moderate personality—one that is just, balanced, and avoids extremism in religious practice. Through an educational tafsir approach, this study also explores Q.S. Al-Baqarah: 143, which affirms the role of the Muslim community as ummatan wasathan (a moderate nation), and explains how the integration of these two verses can become a strategic foundation in nurturing the religious character of Generation Z. The study finds that deeply internalized spiritual education from an early age can function as a moral compass that prevents deviations in religious behavior. In the context of Generation Z, who live in a digital era with open access to diverse information, awareness of the spiritual covenant can serve as a central guide to return to divine values amidst the rise of permissive ideologies. This research recommends the integration of spiritual values into educational curricula as well as in religious guidance and da’wah methods tailored to the characteristics of Generation Z.

Abstract

The Prohibition of Demeaning Others in Surah Al-Hujurat Verse 11: A Study of Al-Baghawi's Interpretation] Surah al-Hujurāt verse 11 contains a prohibition against belittling others, which reflects the basic values ​​of Islamic social ethics. This study attempts to explore the meaning of this verse through an examination of al-Baghawi's Maʿālim al-Tanzīl, which represents the classical interpretation of the Sunni tradition. Using a qualitative approach and content analysis methods, this study examines the linguistic, theological, and social aspects surrounding this prohibition from al-Baghawi's perspective. The results of the analysis indicate that the acts of mocking, ridiculing, and giving demeaning titles are understood as violations of intersubjective ethics and threats to the moral order of the community. Al-Baghawi's interpretation emphasizes the importance of maintaining individual self-esteem and social stability through control over speech and attitudes. This finding confirms that the moral message in the verse remains relevant in building just and inclusive social relations, especially in the context of a pluralistic and dynamic society

Abstract

Discusses the contribution of ʿAbd al-Karīm al-Ḥamīdī, an Algerian scholar born in 1958, in developing the concept of maqāṣid al-Qur'ān. Through his academic background in fiqh and ushul fiqh, al-Ḥamīdī emphasizes that the Quran is not just a book of law, but a revelation that contains noble values and main goals (maqāṣid) that must be realized in human life. In his work, al-Ḥamīdī divides the maqāṣid of the Quran into three categories: general maqāṣid (al-maqāṣid al-'āmmah), specific maqāṣid (al-maqāṣid al-khāṣṣah), and partial maqāṣid (al-maqāṣid al-juz'iyyah). This division aims to facilitate understanding of the objectives of the Qur'an, both in terms of breadth and detail. He also emphasizes that the maqāṣid of the Quran is in line with the maqāṣid al-sharī'ah, which is to protect the five fundamental aspects of life: religion, soul, mind, offspring, and property. al-Ḥamīdī's approach to maqāṣid al-Qur'ān makes an important contribution to understanding and developing Islamic law in a more dynamic and contextual manner. He encourages an understanding of Islamic law that does not solely rely on the literal text (nash), but also pays attention to the purpose behind the enactment of the law. Thus, Islamic law can appear more flexible and relevant to the dynamics of the times, and be able to answer various contemporary issues such as human rights, social justice, environmental preservation, and modern technological advances. Through his works, ʿAbd al-Karīm al-Ḥamīdī has made a significant contribution to the understanding and development of Islamic thought, especially in the context of maqāṣid al-Qur'ān. This approach is an important foundation in shaping Islamic law that is relevant, open, and in favor of universal human values.

Abstract

This article examines the maqāṣidī (purpose-based) approach to interpretation in Sayyid Quthb's work Fī Ẓilāl al-Qur’ān, and relates it to Waṣfī ‘Āsyūr Abū Zayd's theory of maqāṣid al-Qur’an. Through comparative analysis, this article highlights how Sayyid Quthb directs his interpretation toward the essential values and primary objectives that the Qur’an seeks to achieve, rather than on narrative or speculative details that are irrelevant to the spiritual and moral purposes of the text. His approach aligns with the structure of maqāṣid suwar as explained by Waṣfī ‘Āsyūr, which involves dividing the surah into thematic units that lead to a single primary objective, while avoiding discussions not directly indicated by the text. This article demonstrates that Sayyid Quthb applies a consistent interpretive framework, focusing on personal and social transformation, and emphasizing spiritual values such as murāqabah and khasyyah as the fruits of a deep understanding of the Qur'an. Thus, Fī Ẓilāl al-Qur’ān can be positioned as a practical example of the application of maqāṣidī tafsir, which has made an important contribution to the modern tafsir tradition.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji ayat-ayat ekologi dalam al-Qur’an melalui pendekatan munāsabah sebagai upaya merumuskan prinsip moral Qur’an yang relevan dengan krisis ekologi kontemporer. Pentingnya penelitian ini didasarkan pada kenyataan bahwa degradasi lingkungan global menuntut paradigma etis baru, dan al-Qur’an dapat menjadi sumber normatif dalam membangun kesadaran ekologis umat manusia. Metode penelitian ini bersifat kualitatif dengan pendekatan library research. Data dikumpulkan melalui telaah ayat-ayat al-Qur’an yang berkaitan dengan tema lingkungan serta literatur tafsir klasik dan kontemporer kemudian dinalisis dengan metode munāsabah makna, guna menemukan keterkaitan makna antar-ayat yang membentuk kerangka moral lingkungan. Temuan utama penelitian ini menemukan adanya munāsabah makna antara QS. al-Rūm (30:41), QS. al-A‘rāf (7:56), dan QS. al-Raḥmān (55:7–9) yang membentuk kerangka ekoteologis Qur’an. Temuan utama menunjukkan bahwa kerusakan ekologis merupakan konsekuensi moral-spiritual dari ulah manusia yang mengabaikan amanah kekhalifahan dan prinsip mīzān.  Bagian implikasi penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa konservasi lingkungan dapat dipandang sebagai ibadah sekaligus dasar kebijakan berkelanjutan melalui integrasi nilai Qur’an dalam pendidikan, regulasi publik, dan dakwah ekologi. Keaslian dan nilai penelitian ini terletak pada penggunaan pendekatan munāsabah makna yang jarang diaplikasikan dalam studi ekoteologi, sehingga menghasilkan kerangka moral Qur’an yang aplikatif bagi konservasi dan kebijakan ekologis kontemporer

Abstract

Abstract Abstrak [Urgensi Dan Karakteristik Ulumul Qur’an) Al Quran merupakan pedoman utama bagi ummat islam. Al Qur’an diturunkan kepada Nabi Muhammad SAW melalui perantara malaikat Jibril AS dalam bahasa Arab. Dan yang menjadi masalah disini adalah perbedaan kapasitas manusia dalam pemahaman makna didalam Al Quran. Karena pada kenyataannnya tidak semua ummat islam yang tersebar didunia ini mengerti tentang bahasa Arab. Maka dari itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyampaikan betapa pentingnya dan urgensinya dalam memahami ulumul quran,untuk memahami arti serta makna Al Quran, dengan mendalami urgensi dan karakteristik Ulumul Quran sebagai cabang ilmu kajian Al-Quran,serta menguraikan pentingnya pemahaman mendalam terhadap keunikan bahasa Al-Quran (I'jaz), sebab-sebab turunnya ayat (Asbab al-Nuzul), , variasi bacaan (Ilmu Qira'at), dan metode penafsiran (Ilmu Tafsir), serta ilmu balaghah(bahasa). Temuan penelitian menegaskan bahwa pemahaman komprehensif terhadap ulumul Quran menjadi kunci dalam mengartikulasikan pesan-pesan Al-Quran secara akurat dan relevan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Metode kualitatif deskriptif. Pemahaman yang mendalam terhadap urgensi dan karakteristik Ulumul Quran diharapkan dapat menginspirasi pendekatan yang holistik dan relevan dalam mengeksplorasi serta menerapkan ajaran Al-Quran dalam konteks kehidupan sehari-hari. Implikasi praktis dari penelitian ini diharapkan dapat membantu pembaca, peneliti, dan praktisi agama untuk meraih manfaat spiritual serta membimbing tindakan dengan pedoman yang benar sesuai dengan ajaran Islam. The Qur'an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad SAW through the angel Jibril AS in Arabic. And the problem here is the difference in human capacity in understanding the meaning of the Koran. Because in reality not all Muslims spread across the world understand Arabic. Therefore, this research aims to convey the importance and urgency of understanding the Ulumul Koran, to understand the meaning and significance of the Al Quran, by exploring the urgency and characteristics of the Ulumul Quran as a branch of Al-Quran study, as well as explaining the importance of in-depth understanding of the uniqueness of the Al-Quran language. -Quran (I'jaz), the reasons for the revelation of verses (Asbab al-Nuzul), variations in reading (Ilmu Qira'at), and methods of interpretation (Ilmu Tafsir), as well as the science of balaghah (language). The research findings confirm that a comprehensive understanding of the Koran's ulumul is the key to articulating the Koran's messages accurately and relevantly. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method. Descriptive qualitative method. It is hoped that a deep understanding of the urgency and characteristics of the Ulumul Quran can inspire a holistic and relevant approach in exploring and applying the teachings of the Koran in the context of everyday life. It is hoped that the practical implications of this research can help readers, researchers and religious practitioners to achieve spiritual benefits and guide actions with correct guidelines in accordance with Islamic teachings.
