Abstract

The Independent Curriculum provides educators with flexibility in designing learning that focuses on developing students' competencies and strengthening their character. However, its implementation in various educational units, including MTs Negeri 1 Merangin, still faces challenges, particularly in increasing teacher capacity to implement learning that fosters students' soft skills. This Community Service activity aims to improve teachers' pedagogical and professional competencies through the implementation of project-based learning in accordance with the principles of the Independent Curriculum. The method used was Participatory Action Research (PAR) with stages of training, mentoring, and evaluation. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires, then analyzed descriptively quantitatively. The activity was packaged in an extracurricular performance involving OSIM, ROHIS, UKS, PMR, PIK-R, and Pramuka. The results showed an increase in teacher understanding, a collaborative culture, and strengthening of students' character and soft skills.

Abstract

This community service program aims to strengthen the mental resilience and emotional well-being of researchers and academics at a higher education institution in Brunei Darussalam through a Self-Resilience Enhancement workshop based on self-existential discovery techniques using a self-existential discovery (tadabbur alam). The Community Service Team from State University of Surabaya (UNESA) organized the program in response to the high levels of stress, burnout, and workload pressure experienced by the academic community. The tadabbur alam was chosen because it can combine self-introspection, strengthening self-identity, and spiritual connection through direct observation of natural phenomena. The program resulted in an increase of self-awareness, clarity of thought, gratitude, and inner peace, and gained adaptive strategies to deal with life's stressors of participants. Participants also understood resilience not only as the ability to bounce back from setbacks, but also as an internal strength derived from self-understanding and a spiritual connection with God. This activity is an example of cross-country collaboration between UNESA and a higher education institution in Brunei Darussalam through Guidance and Counseling Study Program and Counselling and Diverse Learning Needs Unit that is relevant to be developed in a program to improve academic mental health based on Islamic values and local culture.

Abstract

The migration of Indonesian workers to Sarawak Malaysia has created complex social challenges, one of which is limited access to education for their children. This community engagement program aims to enhance the quality of human resources among Indonesian migrant workers’ children through the implementation of the Joyful Learning approach at the Community Learning Center (CLC) in Sarawak. The activity was conducted collaboratively with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuching. The program employed participatory and contextual learning methods that encourage students to learn through play, storytelling, and cultural interaction. Qualitative methods observation, interviews, and reflective discussions were used to assess changes in motivation and learning outcomes. The results indicate that Joyful Learning effectively increased students’ enthusiasm, self-confidence, and participation in the learning process. Despite limited facilities, the approach successfully created a more engaging and meaningful educational atmosphere, showing its potential to be applied sustainably across other CLCs for Indonesian migrant communities abroad.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to increase public awareness and conduct early detection of Diabetes Mellitus risk through the development and utilization of a digital-based screening system called SIPEDIS. The method applied was a Service Learning approach that integrated student learning with health education services for the community at Aisyiyah Pratama Clinic in Pekanbaru City. The activities included health education on Diabetes Mellitus, assistance in completing the digital risk screening, and student learning reflection. A total of 45 respondents participated in this program. The screening results indicated that 97.8% of respondents were classified as low risk, while 2.2% were categorized as high risk. These findings demonstrate that the use of a digital screening system can improve access to early detection, enhance community understanding of Diabetes Mellitus risk factors, and support technology-based promotive and preventive health efforts. In conclusion, SIPEDIS is effective as an early detection tool and health education medium and has strong potential for further development to support sustainable community health services.
