Abstract

Custard apple (Annona squamosa L.) is a climacteric fruit and highly perishable in nature. The fruit is well known for its sweet taste, specific flavour, and pleasant, aromatic creamy pulp. The fresh fruit pulp contains high nutritional value such as protein, carbohydrate, sugar, vitamin and mineral. Edible coatings are widely used for extension of shelf life of fruits and vegetables by reduction of moisture loss and gas exchange as well as reduction of the physiological disorders. The main problem of postharvest losses associated with custard apples is rapid loss of firmness. The objective of the present study was to identify the effect of different xanthan gum concentrations (1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%) and storage temperature (8 oC, 12 oC, 16 oC, 20 oC) to the weight loss, firmness, total soluble sugar and ascorbic acid in custard apple (Annona squamosa) fruits during preservation. Moreover, shelf life (0 day, 7 days, 14 days, 21 days and 28 days) of custard apple (Annona squamosa) fruit in storage also clarified. Results demonstrated that xanthan gum 4% and storage temperature 8 oC could maintain custard apple (Annona squamosa) fruit quality for 28 days without any deterioration. This is an opportunity to develop value‐added products reducing the postharvest losses, improving nutritional value and generating additional revenue for custard apple growers. Keywords: Custard apple, Xanthan gum, Coating, Firmness, Shelf life, Preservation.

Abstract

This study was carried out in the laboratory of Plant Virology at the Department of plants protection/ College of Agriculture/ University of Karbala to isolate and diagnose some isolates of fungi isolated from infected tomato plants in Najaf and Karbala provinces, Iraq. These isolates were diagnosed by using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique and identifying the nucleotide sequence generated from PCR-amplified products using the universal primer pair ITS1 and ITS4.  The analysis of nucleotide sequences, obtained from amplifying PCR Products, using the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) showed that all identified isolates belong to the fungus R. solani. From comparing the nucleotide sequences of the identified R. solani isolates, it was revealed a clear genetic variation among them as well as with other isolates of the same fungus previously registered in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). The results also showed that two isolates among the other R. solani isolates were not previously registered in NCBI; their nucleotide identified sequences were deposited under the accession numbers: MH520074 and MH520071.Keywords: Rizoctonia solani, Tomato, PCR, Nucleotide sequence, and ITS1-ITS4.

Abstract

Variability and overlap in teaching and learning methods achieve high percentages of development in characteristics, skills and other aspects of teaching strategies and methods. Teaching is one of these methods using motor tasks which currently play an effective role in modern teaching through which a part of the teacher’s authorities is transferred to students.  The problem of the study lies in that teachers did not use modern teaching methods, training schedule and organization and they kept the concept of generality in teaching and learning these skills. They also did not consider effective factors and conditions, so the researcher conducted this study to solve this problem. However, the researchers used the empirical method. The sample was represented in students of the first grade at the Sport Education Department in the college of Basic Education, AL-Mustansiriyah University (40 students). The sample was  divided into a first experimental group (20 students) using the method of teaching with motor tasks due to total training and second experimental group (20 students) using the method of teaching with motor tasks due to partial training. The researchers conducted sample homogeneity, applied tests of attention focus and skill tests. Pre-tests were applied on the sample of the study with the use of teaching method of motor tasks in the class units. Researchers concluded that:There are differences between pre and post tests for both experimental groups which refer that teaching using motor tasks due to pre and post training was more affective. Results showed that the second experimental group excelled in attention focus using teaching with motor tasks due to partial training. Results showed that the second experimental group excelled in learning some types of scoring from the free throw line and peaceful scoring using teaching with motor tasksKeywords: Effect teaching, Motor Learning & Basketball skills.
