Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a disease caused by inadequate insulin secretion or impaired insulin function. One treatment for DM is insulin administration. To make insulin administration easier and more effective, the "BISUL (Get Used to Injecting Insulin)" education program is provided. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the "BISUL (Get Used to Injecting Insulin)" education program on increasing the independence of diabetes mellitus patients in administering insulin. Method: This study was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The sample size was 56 type 2 diabetes patients, consisting of 28 patients in the intervention group and 28 patients in the control group, obtained through accidental sampling. Data were collected using a checklist based on the insulin injection SAP. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. Results: Before being given education on BISUL in the intervention group, 20 patients (71.4%) were not independent. After being given education, the majority of patients were independent, 24 patients (85.7%). In the control group, most patients were not independent, 19 patients (67.9%), after being given standard hospital care, most patients were not independent (53.6%). There was a difference in the level of independence of type 2 DM patients in administering insulin between the intervention group and the control group p value (0.000). There was a difference in the level of independence of the intervention and control groups with a difference in value of 2.67. Conclusion: There was a difference in the level of independence of type 2 DM patients in administering insulin between the intervention group and the control group p value (0.000). There was a difference in the level of independence of the intervention and control groups with a difference in value of 2.67.

Abstract

Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide and remains a serious health problem characterized by chest pain due to narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries. Pain experienced by ACS patients can affect both physiological and psychological conditions, therefore prompt and appropriate management is required. In addition to pharmacological therapy, non-pharmacological interventions such as relaxation techniques and aromatherapy can serve as alternatives to help reduce pain intensity. This study aimed to determine the effect of combining Benson relaxation and lemon aromatherapy on pain scale reduction among ACS patients in the Anggrek Ward of RSUD dr. H. Soewondo Kendal. The research employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A total of 29 respondents were recruited using purposive sampling based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test because the data were not normally distributed. The results showed that the mean pain score before the intervention was 7.14 (moderate to severe pain), while after the intervention it decreased to 4.24 (mild to moderate pain). The Wilcoxon test revealed a significant difference between pain scores before and after the intervention (p = 0.000, p < 0.05). In conclusion, the combination of Benson relaxation and lemon aromatherapy was significantly effective in reducing pain among ACS patients. This intervention may be recommended as a non-pharmacological alternative to support acute pain management in patients with acute coronary syndrome.

Abstract

Based on expert research, more than 50% of nurses do not comply with nursing care documentation. Incomplete documentation can result in hampered nursing care communication, which will negatively impact patient safety. Supervision by the head of the ward can be one of the factors that can influence the completeness of nursing documentation. This study was conducted with the aim of examining whether there is a relationship between the implementation of supervision and the level of compliance of a nurse in documenting nursing care in the inpatient ward of Bhayangkara Hospital Class II Jayapura. This study is a correlational analytical study with a cross-sectional design. The sample in this study amounted to 87 nurses in the inpatient ward of Bhayangkara Hospital Class II Jayapura from June - July 2025 obtained through a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire, a ward head supervision questionnaire, and an observation sheet for compliance with nursing documentation. The collected data will then be analyzed using the Spearman rank test. The results of the study showed that the implementation of supervision by the head of the room in the inpatient ward of Bhayangkara Hospital TK.II Jayapura was mostly in the sufficient category of 41 people (47.1%). Compliance with nursing documentation in the inpatient ward of Bhayangkara Hospital TK.II Jayapura was mostly in the compliant category of 52 people (59.8%). There was a relationship between the implementation of supervision and the level of nurse compliance in documenting nursing care (p value 0.000) and (r = 0.567). The results of this study will be input for the nursing service work unit so that evaluations can be carried out on nursing staff, work systems or facilities and infrastructure needed, such as efforts to maintain good supervision of the head of the room. In addition, it is expected that nurses can document immediately after the action, and record all actions taken completely.

Abstract

Natural disasters, as events that cause stress, trigger feelings of insecurity, anxiety, fear, and interfere with mental health due to the physical, psychological, and material impacts they cause. The psychological impact of such disasters can affect students' academic resilience, especially in terms of their ability to absorb information and adapt to the learning process. This study aims to determine the correlation between stress levels and learning styles of students of the Faculty of Medicine, Tadulako University after the earthquake, tsunami, and liquefaction that hit Palu City in 2018. The design of this study is an observational analysis with a cross-sectional approach, and involves a sample of 189 students who were randomly selected. Data analysis was carried out using the Contingency Coefficient, considering that the research variables were in the form of nominal and ordinal categorical scales. The results of the study showed that there was a significant relationship between stress levels and the learning style of preclinical students. The majority of college students experience very heavy levels of stress when compared to other levels of stress. Reflective learning styles were found to be the most dominant learning style among students, with their tendency to analyze, plan, and reflect on learning materials before making decisions or actions. In addition, the study also revealed that students with very high levels of stress tend to have a reflective learning style, which indicates a link between their emotional experiences and the way they absorb and process information.

Abstract

The cooking process in the food service industry, particularly in small businesses such as coffee shops, has the potential to pose various occupational safety and health (OHS) risks that are often not fully identified. This is important considering that the micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) sector has limitations in optimally implementing OHS standards. This study aims to identify the types of hazards and occupational risks in the cooking process at Coffeeshop X, Tangerang, as an initial effort to raise awareness of the importance of OHS implementation in the culinary sector. The method used is descriptive qualitative through direct observation and in-depth interviews with four informants involved in kitchen activities. The results show that the work stages in the kitchen include ingredient preparation, cooking, and plating, where each stage has different potential hazards. The identified hazards include mechanical hazards from using sharp knives, electrical hazards from equipment such as blenders, chemical hazards from using LPG, physical hazards from exposure to hot pans, biological hazards through cross-contamination, ergonomic hazards due to cramped workspaces, and psychosocial hazards arising from time pressure during rush hours. The risks include work accidents such as knife cuts and occupational diseases such as muscle aches. The study's conclusions underscore the importance of consistently implementing OHS standards, training on safe work practices, and routine supervision in coffee shop environments. These efforts aim not only to prevent workplace accidents but also to improve the quality of the work environment, productivity, and sustainability of culinary businesses in the MSME sector.

Abstract

Myopia is a refractive disorder that occurs when parallel rays from a distance are focused in front of the retina. This condition is not only experienced by older adults but also commonly affects children and adolescents during their growth period. Myopia can cause difficulty in seeing distant objects and has the potential to influence various aspects of life, such as academic achievement, visual comfort, and the development of other conditions like dry eyes and asthenopia. This study aims to analyze the relationship between myopic refractive status and academic performance, the incidence of dry eyes, and asthenopia among students in Islamic boarding schools. The research employed a quantitative approach with an observational analytic method and a cross-sectional design, involving 81 respondents. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test to determine the relationship between variables. The results revealed a statistically significant relationship (p < 0.001) between myopia and the three variables: academic performance, dry eye incidence, and asthenopia. These findings indicate that myopia may simultaneously affect students’ academic performance and ocular health. Therefore, regular eye examinations and early management are essential to prevent further negative impacts on learning activities and the overall quality of life of the students.

Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a global health issue with an increasing prevalence each year. One of the most significant complications of CKD is anemia, which occurs due to decreased erythropoietin production as a result of kidney damage. Erythropoietin plays a vital role in stimulating red blood cell production, and its deficiency leads to decreased hemoglobin and hematocrit, worsening quality of life, increasing cardiovascular risk, and accelerating kidney disease progression. This case report presents a 41-year-old female with complaints of bilateral lower leg edema for one week, accompanied by weakness and repeated vomiting. The patient has a history of poorly controlled kidney failure. Physical examination revealed pale conjunctiva and leg edema, while vital signs showed hypertension (BP 160/80 mmHg). Laboratory results revealed severe anemia (Hb 3.3 g/dL, HCT 9.2%, erythrocytes 1,007,000/mm³), severe renal dysfunction (urea 401 mg/dL, creatinine 18 mg/dL), hypoalbuminemia (2.7 g/dL), hyperkalemia (K 5.3 mmol/L), and a decreased glomerular filtration rate (6.29 mL/min/1.73m²), indicating CKD stage 5. This clinical manifestation emphasizes the strong relationship between CKD and anemia due to erythropoietin deficiency, exacerbated by metabolic disturbances and fluid retention. Management includes anemia correction through blood transfusion, erythropoietin supplementation, electrolyte disturbance management, and renal replacement therapy such as hemodialysis. Early detection and routine CKD management are critical to prevent severe anemia and life-threatening systemic complications. This case report aims to serve as a reference for clinical practice in managing CKD and its complications.
