Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine types of code-switching that used by teacher during teacher and students` interactions in English class. This research used qualitative method and adapted from theory of Poplack (1980). The procedure to collect the data used video recording and transcription. Based on data, code switching was used to facilitate intractions. So, the students can easier understand of teacher’s explanation. The result of this research indicated that intra-sentential as the type of code-switching is the most dominated in learning process.

Abstract

Reading activity is not only about reading in silent situation. Expert said reading aloud is some approach that can improve reading proficiency. Some researchers showed that reading fluency is a part that takes a big portion in reading aloud activity but some experts said that comprehension of the readers that takes an important part. Based on that situation, this paper focuses on discussing the overview by the experts and previous study of how reading comprehension and fluency are related. It also provides the brief how that correlation can improve reading proficiency for EFL students.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out how teachers perception of Merdeka curriculum implementation at SMP IT Fathona OKU Baturaja and SMP IT Tunas Cendikia Baturaja. The design of this research is descriptive quantitative research. The technique sampling used in this research is a total sampling. The writer used a questionnaire to collect data. Based on the research results from the data analysis that has been carried out, it can be concluded that the teachers at SMP IT Fathona OKU Baturaja and SMP IT Tunas Cendikia Baturaja has a moderate perception of the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum. The teachers understanding of the the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum stage are good so that they can deepen its implementation, have a good understanding of merdeka belajar, understand there is a reduction in content that is beneficial for both teachers and students, the learning process that adapts to the character and needs of students. The existence of this positive perception is a supporter of successful implementation merdeka belajar curriculum at SMP IT Fathona OKU Baturaja and SMP IT Tunas Cendikia Baturaja. The results of questionaire showed that teachers at SMP IT Fathona OKU Baturaja and SMP IT Tunas Cendikia Baturaja has a positive perception and good appreciation of the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to find out the effectiveness of teaching reading comprehension by using the word splash strategy for junior high school students. The design used in this study was pre-experimental. The total population of this study was 197 students from seven classes, the writer used cluster random samples . The instrument in this study is multiple choice of reading comprehension test. Based on the results of the Pre-Test, the mean score of the Pre-Test was 58.52. The results of the Post-Test the mean score of Post-Test was 76.30. Based on statistical analysis, the writer found that the value of Sig.=0.000 less than the value of significance level (a=0.05 and Df=26). This shows that the alternative hypothesis was accepted, it means that the use of word splash strategy significantly increase junior high school reading comprehension.

Abstract

Video games are not always harmful; in fact, they can have positive effectson English language learning. Games that use English as a means ofcommunication can indirectly help non-native English speakers improvetheir reading skills. As gaming has become an integral part of daily life,especially for students who often use gadgets like computers, tablets, orsmartphones, it presents an opportunity for enjoyable and effectivelearning. The purpose of this study is to examine why participants playvideo games and how it can aid in their English language learning. Thestudy gathered data through in-depth interviews with ten individuals fromdifferent backgrounds who shared a passion for video games andrecognized their potential for improving English reading skills. Theparticipants cited entertainment, story-driven games, competition, socialinteraction, and stress relief as reasons for playing video games. All agreedthat video games had helped them significantly in improving their Englishreading skills.

Abstract

Basically most students experience anxiety when making presentations in front of the classor speaking in front of many people. This anxiety can affect the learning process and also theresults of student learning. In this study, the authors aim to find the most dominant causes ofstudents' anxiety in speaking performance in front of the class or during presentations. Thedesign of this research used descriptive qualitative and the method is theoretical and libraryresearch methods. Based on several previous articles, the researcher found that one of themost dominant factors of anxiety experienced by students was due to their own negativethoughts which were afraid of the response from the audience. For the conclusion, theresearcher found several factors that influence students' anxiety in speaking or presenting inclass and also several strategies to control this anxiety. And the researcher also suggests tothe teacher concerned to help students to overcome this anxiety

This research isconducted by applying descriptive qualitative. The data was collected by documenting the contentmaterials on the textbook and it was analyzed by using Cunningsworth's theory. The result showed that anEnglish textbook entitle “Bahasa Inggris" fulfilled the criteria proposed in Cunningsworth's theoryconcerning the impressionistic textbook analysis with score 73% and in-depth textbook analysis with thesummative score 86%. From those summative scores, the textbook was categorized as a fair and goodenough textbook and suitable enough to use as media in teaching and learning process

Abstract

This study was to find out the students’ perception on the use of Android- based ExamBrowser as the medium to assess examination. This study used the qualitative survey method.The population of the study was the eighth and ninth grade students of SMPIT Tunas CendikiaBaturaja. The writer took all of the sample by applying total sampling consist of 85 students.The data collected through questionnaire, it consists of 35 statements. Then, the writer usedpercentage formula to analyze the data. The result of this study showed that there were manystudents who think that they were agree or had positive perception on the use of Android-based exam browser as the medium to assess examination in SMPIT Tunas Cendikia Baturaja.The data were in high criteria in each indicator. Students' interest/intention from the eighthgraders (73,62%) and the ninth graders (64,90%), students' perceived usefulness from theeighth graders (74,07%) and the ninth graders (56,46%), students' perceived of ease of usefrom the eighth graders (59,26%) and the ninth graders (58,33%) and students' Androidattitude from the eighth graders (68,52%) and the ninth graders (60,20%). From the result,students’ anxiety from the nineth grade (44,39%) disagree or indicate to negative perceptionabout the use of Android-based exam browser as the medium to assess examination in SMPITTunas Cendikia Baturaja. It was because Android-based Exam Browser still intimidated andmade them feel afraid of making mistakes in using Android- based exam browser, beside thatalso anxious and nervous due to sometimes their Android did not as friendly as hangs, runsout of battery, and disconnected from the connection server.

Abstract

The objectives of this research was to know the effectiveness of using audio visual media on students writing ability in descriptive text to eighth grade at SMP Negeri 1 Runjung Agung. The type of study was quasi-experimental. There were two classes namely VIII.1 as experimental group the total number students 27 and VIII.2 as control group the total number students 27. The sample was choosen by using purposive sampling. The result of students’ pre- test in experiment class showed that the minimun score was 22.50 and maximun score was 72.50, and then mean score was 56,57. The result of students’ pre-test control class showed that the minimum score score was 20.00 and maximum score was 92.50, and then mean score was 52.96. The result of students’ post-test in experiment class showed that the minimum score was 65.50 and maximum score was 95.00, and then mean score 84.44. The result of student’ post-test in control class showed that the minimum score 52.50 and maximum score was 72.50, and then mean score was 64.44. The result of t-test found the calculated value of t-obtained was 10.766, in two tailed testing with df =26, the critical of t-table was 2.045. Since the value of t-obained was higher than the critical value of t-table, it means that there was a significant difference in achievement before and after the treatment. Therefore t-obtained was higher than t-table. This indicated that Null Hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It means that there is the effectiveness of using audio visual media on students writing ability in descriptive text to eighth grade at SMP Negeri 1 Runjung Agung.

Abstract

This research aims to determine students' reading comprehension in eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 23 OKU who are taught by using Collaborative Strategic Reading. this research is counducted by using pre-experimental research design. the population of this research were all students of class VIII SMP Negeri 23 OKU. the total population is 164 students, and 30 students were taken as the sample through claster random sempling. the pre-test and post-test were used as the techniques for collecting the data. base on the result of research findings the researchers found that the average pre-test score was 48,88 and the post-test score was to 74,00. from statistical analysis, research found that the value of sig.=0.000 les than the value of significance level a=0.05 this show that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. it can be conclude that collaborative strategic reading was effectiveness to improve reading comprehension of eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 23 OKU. by using collaborative strategic reading students are more active and participate in the teaching and learning process of reading comprehension. therefore, collaborative strategic reading can be an alternative strategy for teachers in teaching reading which can improve their reading comprehension skill.
