Abstract

Despite high production levels, chicken egg prices in Central Java experience significant volatility. This study analyzes the degree of vertical price integration and identifies the price leadership structure among producers, wholesalers, and retailers in the chicken egg market in Central Java Province. While previous research has examined market integration, a gap remains in understanding price leadership dynamics amid recent post-pandemic economic shifts. This study addresses this gap by providing empirical evidence of vertical price transmission using updated time-series data (2021–2024) across producer, wholesaler, and retailer levels. The ECM approach was employed, with data stationarity first verified via the Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) test. Price leadership was then identified through a two-step analysis of short-term regression and the error correction term. The ADF results indicate that the chicken egg market in Central Java is vertically integrated in both the short- and long-run. The ECM result demonstrates that price adjustments originate at the producer and wholesaler levels and are transmitted forward to retailers in both the short and long run (p < 0.05), confirming a supply-led price leadership structure. These findings contribute to the literature by clarifying that upstream segments dictate price formation in the regional market. Consequently, policymakers should prioritize stabilization efforts at the producer level, particularly through feed-cost subsidies and wholesale distribution management, to effectively mitigate volatility across the value chain.

Abstract

Utilizing agricultural waste is a strategic agenda to support economic, environmental, and social sustainability. Dragon fruit peel, an abundant agricultural waste, remains underutilized as a raw material for value-added products. Meanwhile, empirical studies integrating dragon fruit peel waste-based product development with economic feasibility analysis at the micro-enterprise scale are limited. This study aims to analyze the feasibility of a dragon fruit peel-based food product at a pilot scale. This research was conducted as an experimental research and development (R&D) study in Jember, focusing on the development of a rempeyek product prototype. The production process was designed to be simple and replicable by Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) using standard kitchen equipment. Primary data related to production inputs, time, and costs were analyzed to assess operational and economic feasibility. The results showed that the pilot production was operationally feasible with an output of 25 packages per batch. The economic analysis yielded a R/C ratio of 1.40, a positive Return on Investment (ROI) of 9.54% per batch, and a break-even point of 18 packages. The novelty of this research lies in the presentation of a product development model based on dragon fruit peel waste that has been operationally and economically tested at the MSME scale.

Abstract

In the competitive e-commerce landscape, local brands like Mabello Indonesia utilize promotions and Cash on Delivery (COD) to drive sales. This study examines the influence of these factors on purchasing decisions through consumer trust, focusing on local beauty products in Makassar, Indonesia. Using a quantitative SEM-PLS (Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares) approach, data were collected from 100 young e-commerce users. Results: Promotions significantly influence purchasing decisions, with consumer trust acting as a significant mediator. However, consumer trust does not significantly mediate the relationship between COD and purchasing decisions. This suggests that for digital-native consumers, COD has shifted from a risk-mitigation tool to a mere logistical convenience. Practical Implications: Local MSMEs should prioritize authentic, culturally grounded promotions to foster long-term trust while maintaining COD services to ensure transaction certainty.

Abstract

The plantation subsector plays an important role in Indonesia's agribusiness economy, with coffee, tea, and cocoa representing major beverage commodities increasingly marketed through e-commerce platforms. However, empirical comparisons of their online sales performance remain limited. This study examines differences in sales performance among coffee, tea, and cocoa-based ready-to-drink (RTD) and instant beverages sold on the Shopee marketplace. A quantitative comparative approach was employed using secondary data from 180 product listings, comprising 60 products for each commodity. Sales volume was analyzed using One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) followed by Tukey HSD post hoc testing at the 5% significance level. The results indicate a statistically significant difference in average sales among the three commodities (F = 3.08; p = 0.048). Post-hoc analysis shows that the significant difference occurs only between coffee and tea, while cocoa exhibits overlapping sales performance with both. These findings suggest that digital competitiveness in agribusiness is selective rather than uniform across commodities. This study demonstrates the usefulness of variance-based statistical analysis for revealing structural differences in platform-based agribusiness markets. The findings further indicate that digital agribusiness competitiveness is increasingly shaped by demand-side factors and platform-mediated visibility, providing practical insights for producers and policymakers in designing targeted digital strategies.

Abstract

The distribution of food ingredients with sustainable claims from cage-free and free-range production systems is currently increasing. Eggs, as one of the affordable and easily accessible food ingredients for the community, have been developed into products with sustainable value. The study aims to identify the socio-demographic characteristics of sustainable egg consumers, investigate consumer satisfaction levels, and map the attributes that reflect the urgency and performance inherent in egg products with sustainable claims. Data were collected in July 2024 through structured interviews with up to 100 consumers in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) and Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) were applied in this study. The results show that respondents were mostly of productive age, had small households, and belonged to low- to middle-income groups, with generally moderate egg consumption levels. At the same time, the analysis shows that consumer satisfaction with eggs bearing sustainable claims is relatively high. The attributes of freshness, variety of egg types, and the added value of Omega-3 are considered the most important and satisfying attributes. In developing their products, marketers need to improve the performance of egg size, packaging, and the number of eggs per package.

Abstract

This study developed an innovative shredded milkfish product (abon bandeng) incorporating banana pseudostem (bonggol pisang ulin) in Sidoarjo Regency. Although local milkfish production and available banana biomass are substantial, empirical evidence on hybrid formulations combining animal protein and pseudostem-derived fiber, along with market-based price assessment, remains limited. The study therefore aimed to (1) develop and select the optimal milkfish: banana pseudostem formulation for sensory acceptance, (2) identify the consumer preference drivers for the selected product, and (3) assess preliminary commercial viability using the Price Sensitivity Meter (PSM). Four formulations (100:0, 70:30, 50:50, 30:70) were evaluated via organoleptic testing with 70 respondents; subsequent consumer preference and PSM analyses were conducted. The 50:50 formulation achieved the highest acceptance (mean = 4.014; like rate = 81.43%). ANOVA showed significant differences (p < 0.05) in aroma, texture, and taste across formulations. PSM indicated an acceptable price range of IDR 14,500–20,000 and an optimal price point at IDR 15,500. Taste and nutritional value were key purchase drivers (88.6%), and online marketplaces were the principal distribution channel (45.7%). Findings demonstrate sensory viability and preliminary commercial potential for this hybrid product. This study contributes by integrating sensory optimization and price modeling into hybrid animal–plant product development, while providing an empirically validated formulation and an optimal pricing reference to support circular-economy-based agro-innovation.

Abstract

This study analyzes the effect of the level of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) implementation on maize farmers’ income in Kecamatan Tilongkabila. The GAP index was constructed from nine cultivation components based on Regulation of the Minister of Agriculture No. 48 of 2006, measured using a five-point Likert scale (1–5), then summed and normalized into a percentage index (0–100%). The study employed a survey of 30 purposively selected farmers and applied simple linear regression after meeting the classical assumptions. The results indicate a positive but very weak relationship between GAP and income (R = 0.260; R² = 0.067). The regression coefficient is B = 0.039 (t = 1.423; p = 0.166), meaning that a one-point increase in the GAP index is associated with an average increase of 0.039 income units. However, the effect is not statistically significant at α = 0.05. Therefore, this study does not provide sufficient statistical evidence that increasing the intensity of GAP implementation improves maize farmers’ income. Income variation is largely explained by factors outside the model, suggesting the need for further research incorporating more comprehensive variables. The present study enriches the body of knowledge in agricultural economics by employing a continuous GAP index to measure implementation intensity and by providing localized empirical evidence that GAP adoption, when implemented partially, may not automatically translate into higher farmer income.
