Abstract

The objectives of this study are to examine the implementation of government policies on the empowerment program of Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) related to livelihood assets and to describe the performance of SAD assets in Jambi Province. The study was conducted in 2024. The study location was determined purposively in Dwi Karya Bhakti Village, Pelepat District, Bungo Regency, and Muara Kilis Village, Tebo Tengah District, Tebo Regency, considering that these locations had received various empowerment programs and obtained agricultural land for the SAD community. Respondents were identified through the census, specifically 93 SAD individuals who had been empowered. They were then interviewed, along with the Head of the Service/Secretary of the Food Crops, Horticulture, and Plantation Service of Bungo Regency and Tebo Regency, as well as Tumenggung and SAD Companion Figures. This study used a descriptive analytical approach to describe the implementation of government policies. The livelihood assets were scored using indicators of natural capital, financial capital, social capital, human capital, and physical capital. The research findings indicate that there are no regulations or policies from the Jambi Provincial Regulation regarding SAD assistance, specifically in the agricultural sector, in Bungo and Tebo Regencies. Based on livelihood assets, it is known that the livelihood assets of SAD are not yet optimal. This study highlights the need for maximum assistance that focuses on livelihood assets so that the level of nomadic people in SAD can be overcome and the success of the program, especially in the agricultural sector, can be achieved.

Abstract

The development of organic agriculture in Indonesia progresses slowly. The role of agricultural extension workers as farmer facilitators requires support from community opinion leaders. Opinion leaders have followers and influence within their communities, making their role crucial in accelerating the diffusion of innovation. This study aims to identify the characteristics and roles of opinion leaders by analyzing communication channels and the factors influencing the development of organic rice farming. The research employs a survey method with a questionnaire as the primary data collection tool. Data were gathered through interviews with 150 rice farmers and relevant stakeholders. In-depth interviews and observations were used to supplement the survey data. The research was conducted in East Kolaka Regency. Data were analyzed descriptively and using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM-PLS). Using diffusion theory, we identified 11 opinion leaders in the research area, characterized by their success in farming, experience, access to information, and openness. Opinion leaders maintain interpersonal relationships and are closely connected with other farmers. They serve as learning sources and consultation points for farmers in agricultural activities. Several factors influence the role of opinion leaders in the development of organic rice farming, including institutional characteristics, availability of demonstration plots, supporting factors, innovation characteristics, and the use of communication media. Therefore, agricultural extension workers should involve opinion leaders to accelerate the development of organic rice farming.

Abstract

Indonesia has experienced significant growth in both coffee production and consumption, driving the development of local coffee businesses. Amid increasing competition, Instagram has become a primary platform for promotional strategies due to its visual strength and broad reach. This study aims to analyze the influence of Instagram promotion effectiveness on consumer purchase decisions, with brand awareness as a mediating variable. Promotion effectiveness is measured using the Stimulus-Organism-Response (SOR) Model, which encompasses stimulus (content quality), organism (attention, comprehension, and acceptance), and response (interaction and participation). The study was conducted at Sumber Wandhe Coffee Lab, Jombang, East Java, from January 2025, utilizing field observations and interviews supported by Google Forms, and employing a quantitative approach. A total of 100 respondents, out of 4,000 followers of Sumber Wandhe Coffee Lab on Instagram, were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected via an online questionnaire and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) through WarpPLS 8.0. This study examined the relationship among three main variables: Instagram promotion effectiveness, brand awareness, and purchase decision. The results show that Instagram promotional content received high average scores in stimulus (4.23), organism (4.24), and response (4.15), with an overall effectiveness score of 4.20. The outer Model met the validity and reliability criteria. The inner model analysis revealed a significant direct effect of Instagram promotion on brand awareness (β = 0.83, p < 0.01) and a significant effect of brand awareness on the purchase decision (β = 0.62, p < 0.01). The indirect effect of promotion on purchase decision through brand awareness was more substantial than the direct path. These findings confirm that brand awareness serves as a key mediator linking the effectiveness of Instagram promotion to consumer purchasing behavior.

Abstract

Conversion of food land is so rampant in Baubau City that the Baubau City government is trying to curb it by establishing LP2B regulations. The efficacy of LP2B regulations needs to be studied, so this study is important. Farmers' commitment to not converting food crop land will be strong if farmers are aware of the LP2B regulations. In contrast to earlier research, this study focuses on farmer knowledge rather than only on methods or the assessment of LP2B regulations. Based on Baubau City Regional Regulation Number 6 of 2023 concerning the Protection of Sustainable Food Agricultural Land (LP2B), this study seeks to assess the extent of farmers' understanding of LP2B. This study was carried out in Kaisabu Baru Village, Sorawolio District, Baubau City, in February 2025. The research population consisted of 71 farmers, and all members of the population were used as research samples. The variables in this study are farmers' knowledge about LP2B. Data analysis techniques using rating scales, where farmers' knowledge was categorized as high (score range: 2.34-3.00), moderate (score range: 1.67-2.33), or low (score range: 1.00-1.66). The research results concluded that farmers' knowledge of LP2B in Kaisabu Baru Village, Baubau City, was in the low category, with an average score of 1.46%. The low level of farmers' knowledge about LP2B stems from the lack of explicit, comprehensive socialization. Practical recommendations that can be made to improve LP2B in general in Baubau City, namely, establishing technical guidelines for implementing LP2B and clearly re-mapping the location of LP2B land and the status of LP2B land ownership based on spatial data from satellite images and GIS software, because it concerns the effectiveness of providing LP2B incentives to farmers.

Abstract

Sugarcane is a key plantation crop and the primary source of sugar in Indonesia. However, over the past decade, rising demand has not been matched by domestic production, which has continued to decline. Improving productivity can be achieved through the use of high-quality seed. However, farmers face limited access as supply from sugar mill networks is scarce. Interest in self-producing seed remains low due to limited awareness of its comparable economic benefits to cane cultivation for milling. This study aims to assess the efficiency of seed cane production in Balung District, Jember Regency, and to identify sustainable strategies for developing an independent sugarcane seed production system at the farmer level. The results are expected to provide recommendations for farmers on improving the availability and quality of self-produced seed, serving as a reference for decision-making in developing a more efficient and sustainable sugarcane seed propagation system. The research was conducted from January to March 2025 in Balung Sub-district, Jember Regency, involving a single farmer as the primary respondent, who manages a seed production area of 1.125 hectares. Observed variables included total cost, revenue, profit, and financial efficiency parameters, such as the R/C ratio, B/C ratio, Break-Even Point (BEP), and sensitivity analysis. Data were analyzed using farm business and financial efficiency analysis methods. The results showed that bud-set sugarcane seed production is feasible and profitable, with a total cost of IDR 36,740,000.00/ha, a projected revenue of IDR 50,400,000.00/ha, and a profit of IDR 13,660,000.00 per hectare, assuming a 1:7 multiplication ratio. The R/C ratio was 1.38, and the return on investment (ROI) reached 138%. BEP and sensitivity analyses also indicated that the business remains efficient even under price fluctuations or increased production costs. It is recommended that local stakeholders support farmer training and seed certification to encourage wider adoption of independent seed production.

Abstract

Riau Province is one of Indonesia’s major centers of natural rubber production, with Kuantan Singingi Regency serving as its primary contributor. Since 2018, the regency has implemented an auction system for processed rubber (bokar) through the APKARKUSI institution to improve selling prices and reduce farmers’ dependence on intermediaries. However, the absence of a comprehensive evaluation regarding farmers’ satisfaction with APKARKUSI’s performance, coupled with the emerging trend of farmers reverting to conventional marketing systems, presents a critical issue that warrants further investigation. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of rubber farmers participating in the Bokar auction marketing system facilitated by APKARKUSI and to evaluate their satisfaction levels with the institution’s performance. The research was conducted in Kuantan Singingi Regency, which has the largest rubber plantation area in Riau Province and is the only regency to have consistently implemented the bokar auction system since 2018. Data were collected from 96 farmers selected through purposive sampling between December 2024 and January 2025. Analytical methods included descriptive statistics, the Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI), and Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA). The findings reveal that most farmers have more than ten years of farming experience and possess at least a senior high school education, fostering openness to innovation and active participation in the auction system. The CSI score of 90.32%, classified as “very satisfied,” indicates that APKARKUSI’s performance aligns well with farmers’ expectations. IPA results indicate that marketing, information dissemination, and technological aspects fall within Quadrant II (maintain performance), while financing and agricultural machinery procurement fall within Quadrant I (top priority for improvement). These results provide valuable insights into strengthening institutional performance and can serve as a strategic framework for developing more sustainable marketing systems for other agricultural commodities.

Abstract

The ITRC countries (Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia) are recognized as the leading global producers of TSNR (Technically Specified Natural Rubber). These three countries implement the Agreed Export Tonnage Scheme (AETS) policy to maintain global natural rubber price stability. The effectiveness of the AETS policy depends on the level of market integration by ITRC countries. This research aims to analyze the integration of TSNR export prices among the three countries that are members of the ITRC, specifically Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia. The analysis used is model VAR (Vector Autoregressive) or (VECM) Vector Error Correction model. This study employs monthly time series data spanning from January 2007 to December 2023. The data were sourced from the ITC (International Trade Centre) via the public platform trademap.org using HS code (400122). The research variables are TSNR export prices (US$) for Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia as ITRC members and major TSNR producers in the world. This study also uses the Impulse Response Function (IRF) and Forecast Error Variance Decomposition (FEDV) approaches to obtain more comprehensive findings. The findings indicate that the TSNR export prices of Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia are linked in the long run. Nevertheless, in the short run, the three countries are not fully integrated. The FEDV analysis indicates that Malaysia holds a more dominant position in TSNR price movements than Indonesia and Thailand. Therefore, ITRC countries need to strengthen cooperation and information transparency in policy-making and routine evaluation. The practical implication derived from this study is that Indonesia and Malaysia need to strengthen coordination because the TSNR export prices of the two countries have been integrated. However, Thailand needs to adjust its trade policy to achieve the integration of TSNR export prices of ITRC member countries.

Abstract

This study analyzes the structure, conduct, and performance (SCP) of shallot marketing in Tomia Timur District, Wakatobi Regency, Indonesia, an isolated island region with limited logistics. Using a descriptive approach, the research involved 30 shallot farmers and nine traders as respondents, selected through purposive, accidental, and snowball sampling methods. The results show an oligopsonistic market structure with high concentration at the trader level and competitive behavior among farmers. Traders dominated price-setting, while farmers acted as price takers. The marketing margin varied significantly across institutions, and the farmer's share was only 38.94%, below the fair threshold. The primary marketing obstacles were capital constraints and unfavorable pricing conditions. These findings highlight the need for market interventions in archipelagic agricultural zones to improve farmers' bargaining positions and marketing efficiency.

Abstract

This research was conducted in 2025 with the aim of analyzing economic contributions and the time devotion at Kota Jati Furindo LLC dedicated to supporting their family economy and analyzing their contributions. The study was conducted at Kota Jati Furindo LLC, situated on the Jepara-Bangsri road, approximately 6.5 kilometers from Jepara, Central Java, Indonesia. The company operates in the timber industry and employs a significant number of women, particularly in the production department. This study used the census method for data collection, chosen because it allows the inclusion of the entire population that meets the criteria as respondents, resulting in more accurate findings. The study involved 50 respondents, specifically married women employees working in the packing and sanding divisions. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using appropriate statistical methods. The study employed descriptive analysis with a quantitative approach for data analysis. This approach was chosen to provide an in-depth understanding of the time dedication and economic contribution of the respondents. The data analysis showed that women employees at Kota Jati Furindo LLC spend an average of 33.33% of their time each week on economic activities or work. Meanwhile, the average time spent on non-economic activities, such as attending to personal needs, social activities, and household chores, was 66.65% per week. The contribution analysis revealed that the economic contribution of women employees to the family income is 43%, which falls into the medium category. Policy implications based on these findings suggest that the company needs to develop policies that support a better work-life balance for its female employees. For example, offering more flexible work arrangements or improved leave policies could help women manage the time between work and family responsibilities, thus enhancing their economic contribution more optimally.
