Abstract

When an individual is diagnosed with breast cancer and must undergo treatment, the impact extends beyond physical health to psychological well-being. A common psychological symptom experienced by patients is a significant decline in self-esteem. Breast cancer patients may experience poor mental health due to their physical condition and the treatment process, making support from those closest to them—especially family—crucial. This study aims to examine the relationship between family support and self-esteem in breast cancer patients undergoing palliative care at Ulin Regional Hospital, Banjarmasin. The study employed a quantitative, correlational research design with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used was consecutive sampling, involving 83 breast cancer patients. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire. Data analysis utilized Spearman's correlation test. The results showed a relationship between family support and self-esteem among patients, with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.391. The analysis yielded a significance level of p = 0.003, indicating that the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. The correlation coefficient of 0.391 suggests a moderate and positive relationship, meaning that higher family support is associated with higher patient self-esteem. These findings indicate that family support significantly influences and contributes positively to the self-esteem of breast cancer patients.

Abstract

Older adults frequently encounter fragmented healthcare services that predominantly focus on medical aspects. One contributing factor is the limited implementation of interprofessional collaboration (IPC), both in health and non-health sectors, due to insufficient understanding, facilities, and infrastructure. These limitations may negatively impact the quality of life of older adults. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the effect of implementing Islamic-based Interprofessional Collaboration (IPC) on the quality of life of older adults at Sentra Gau Mabaji Gowa. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with a quantitative approach and was conducted from May to July 2024. The sample consisted of older adults at Sentra Gau Mabaji Gowa. The World Health Organization Quality of Life for Older Adults (WHOQOL-Old) instrument was used, and data were analyzed using the Paired t-test. The results indicated a significant effect of the Islamic-based IPC implementation on the quality of life of older adults, with a p-value of 0.023. The better the implementation of IPC, the better the quality of life of the elderly.

Abstract

Surgical procedures often pose significant physiological and psychological stress for patients. The number of surgical cases continues to increase annually. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of peppermint aromatherapy in reducing physiological and emotional arousal among preoperative patients. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group was employed, involving 20 respondents at Ratu Zalecha General Hospital Martapura. The results showed significant differences in blood pressure and pulse rate before and after the administration of aromatherapy (p < 0.05), although no significant difference was found between the intervention and control groups. The study concluded that peppermint aromatherapy did not produce a significant effect when comparing the intervention group with the control group. Therefore, future studies with stronger methodological control and more precise timing are recommended.

Abstract

Academic stress is a condition of pressure experienced by individuals due to demands in higher education. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of mindfulness and art therapy drawing in reducing stress among final-year students. The study employed a pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design. A total of 41 students received the intervention after completing a pretest, followed by a posttest. Analysis showed that the mean stress score before intervention was 148.22 and decreased to 125.88 after intervention. The Paired T-Test yielded a p-value of 0.001 (≤ 0.05), indicating a significant effect of the intervention on stress reduction. Mindfulness therapy helps individuals reinterpret stress more positively, while art therapy drawing serves as a creative outlet for emotional expression. The combination of both proved effective in reducing student stress levels.

Abstract

The increasing number of elderly people in Indonesia poses a major challenge in the provision of long-term care services. The elderly tend to experience a decline in physical and mental function so that they depend on the family as the main caregiver. However, the role as a caregiver can cause psychological, physical, economic, and social burdens known as caregiver burden. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between caregiver burden and family independence in long-term care of the elderly. This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, conducted from September 2024 to May 2025 in Malang City. A total of 59 family members who care for the elderly were selected through accidental sampling technique. The instruments used were the Zarit Burden Interview and the Family Independence Level questionnaire. Data analysis was performed with the Spearman Rank test using SPSS version 25.0.  The majority of respondents came from large families (71%) and were female (90%). Most families showed high independence (KM 4), while caregiver burden was classified as mild to moderate. Statistical analysis showed no significant relationship between caregiver burden and family independence (p = 0.741; r = -0.044). Although some caregivers experienced burden, families were still able to care for the elderly independently. Caregiver burden is not the only factor that influences family independence and quality in providing services and long-term care for the elderly. Emotional support, family togetherness, and cultural values are thought to play a role in maintaining family independence.

Abstract

As the number of elderly people in Indonesia increases, so does the need for long-term care. In this case, the family acts as the main caregiver who not only provides physical, but also emotional and social support. Family independence is key to successful care, while family members' self-esteem is believed to influence their readiness to carry out this role. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the level of self-esteem of family members and family independence in caring for the elderly. This quantitative study with a cross-sectional design involved 59 respondents in Malang City who were actively involved in caring for the elderly at home who were selected by accidental sampling. Data were collected through the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) and family independence questionnaire, then analyzed with the Spearman Rank test. The majority of respondents demonstrated high self-esteem (35.6%) and high family independence (KM 4). However, the Spearman Rank test revealed no significant correlation between self-esteem and family independence (p = 0.342; r = -0.126). Other factors such as age, family structure, occupation, and cultural values are thought to be more influential. Self-esteem contributes psychologically, but improving family self-reliance requires a comprehensive approach that includes social, economic, and cultural aspects. Psychosocial and culture-based approaches are important in building an independent, sustainable, and empathetic elder care system.

Abstract

Data from the World Health Organization indicate a high prevalence of autism-related disabilities, with many children experiencing developmental delays of over five years and limited fine motor skills typically seen at the level of children aged 3 to 4. This study aims to support children with autism by enhancing their fine motor development through Safety Flour Clay therapy. The research was conducted to examine the effect of this therapy on improving fine motor skills in children with autism at SLB C and C1 Yakut Purwokerto and SLB Negeri Banjarnegara. A quantitative approach was employed using a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest format without a control group. A total of 30 participants were selected through total sampling. Data were collected through observation using standardized instruments and analyzed with the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. The results showed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of Safety Flour Clay therapy on the improvement of fine motor skills in children with autism. This therapy presents a promising alternative to support physical development, particularly in the area of fine motor coordination.

Abstract

Children with intellectual disabilities experience cognitive limitations that affect their ability to perform self-care tasks, including maintaining personal hygiene. This study aims to analyze the effect of using quiet book media on improving personal hygiene skills among children with intellectual disabilities at SLB C and C1 Yakult Purwokerto. A pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach and a quantitative method was used. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. A total of 30 students were selected through total sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and observation sheets. The results showed a significant improvement in personal hygiene skills after the intervention, with a p-value of <0.001. The quiet book media proved effective in enhancing children's behavioral skills in self-care. Therefore, this media can serve as a practical alternative learning tool to support the independence of children with intellectual disabilities, particularly in fulfilling personal care needs.
