Abstract

Dietary regulation is one of the main pillars in the management of diabetes mellitus. Effective dietary management requires strong commitment and self-discipline from patients to achieve optimal outcomes. This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-efficacy and dietary compliance among patients with diabetes mellitus at Cancar Public Health Center, Manggarai Regency. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was employed, using a total sampling technique involving 30 respondents. Data were analyzed using Kendall’s Tau-b correlation test. The findings revealed that among respondents with high self-efficacy, 13 were compliant with their diet and 2 were less compliant. Among those with moderate self-efficacy, 1 was compliant, 5 were less compliant, and 4 were non-compliant. Meanwhile, respondents with low self-efficacy showed no compliance or low compliance, with 5 individuals categorized as non-compliant. The statistical analysis using Kendall’s Tau-b test demonstrated a significant relationship between self-efficacy and dietary compliance (ρ-value = 0.000). These results suggest that improving self-efficacy in patients with diabetes mellitus is essential to enhance dietary adherence and prevent more severe health complications.

Abstract

Inappropriate care of acute diabetic wounds increases the risk of infection. Proper wound dressing plays a crucial role in protecting wounds from microbial contamination. The principle of moist wound care is to keep the wound environment adequately hydrated. The combination of 0.9% NaCl and Aloe vera in wound care helps maintain wound moisture, while the antiseptic properties of Aloe vera inhibit bacterial growth. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of wound care using 0.9% NaCl and Aloe vera. An experimental research method was used, involving eight rats with acute diabetic wounds. After wound induction, wound smears were taken and cultured for 24 hours to count bacterial colonies. Wound treatment was carried out for seven days using a combination of 0.9% NaCl and Aloe vera, applied every morning and evening. After the treatment period, bacterial colony counts were measured again. The results showed a significant difference in bacterial colony counts before and after treatment, with a p-value of 0.012 (< 0.05). It can be concluded that wound care using 0.9% NaCl and Aloe vera is effective in reducing bacterial colony counts.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM), commonly known as diabetes, is a serious chronic condition characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to the body’s inability to produce or effectively use insulin. Physical activity refers to movements involving skeletal muscles that require more energy than resting, typically planned, continuous, and repetitive in nature, with the aim of improving physical fitness. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between physical activity and blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus. This study used a quantitative descriptive correlational approach with a cross-sectional design. The sampling technique was non-probability sampling, involving a total of 50 respondents. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods, specifically Kendall’s Tau B. The statistical analysis yielded a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between physical activity and blood glucose levels among patients with diabetes mellitus at Narang Community Health Center. The findings indicate a positive correlation between physical activity and blood glucose levels in diabetic patients at Narang Community Health Center. Future researchers are encouraged to enhance the study design and broaden the sample selection. Additionally, attention should be given to unexplored factors that may influence blood glucose levels and were not communicated to respondents, in order to obtain more comprehensive results.

Abstract

The number of designated stunting-priority locations in Manggarai Regency has increased each year, according to local government determinations. Data show that out of 188 villages/sub-districts in Manggarai Regency, 97 have achieved stunting-free status. This study aimed to explore the role of villages in addressing stunting in Manggarai Regency. This research employed a qualitative analytical design using a phenomenological approach. The informants included village heads, parents of stunted toddlers, and village midwives. A purposive sampling technique was used. Data were collected through non-participant observation and in-depth interviews. The role of villages in stunting prevention involves policy regulations established at the central, provincial, and district levels. The allocated budget is sourced from village funds in accordance with government policies. However, healthcare resources remain limited. The availability of transparent data enables evidence-based interventions. Policies, budget allocations, human resources, and data serve as the main foundation for stunting reduction efforts.

Abstract

Loneliness significantly affects the quality of life among older adults. Family support plays a crucial role as a protective factor in maintaining the health and well-being of the elderly. Positive family support is recognized as one of the key determinants in enhancing the quality of life of older individuals. This study aims to analyze the relationship between family support and the quality of life in elderly individuals experiencing loneliness. A quantitative approach was used, employing a correlational design with a cross-sectional method. A total of 80 elderly respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using the UCLA Loneliness Scale, the Family Support Questionnaire, and the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. The results showed that 70.0% of the elderly respondents received adequate family support, and 80.0% had a moderate level of quality of life. Family support was found to have a significant influence on the quality of life among elderly individuals who experience loneliness. It is recommended that families provide consistent care and support to their elderly members, enabling them to feel accompanied and valued in their later years, thereby improving their overall well-being.

Abstract

The incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI) in children has shown a recent increase. Several contributing factors include the emergence of new diseases such as COVID-19 and the use of nephrotoxic drugs. This literature review aims to identify the risk factors associated with AKI in pediatric populations. The method used was a literature review conducted across three databases: ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Google Scholar, using the search keywords "children," "acute kidney injury," and "risk factors." A total of 10 primary articles were selected for review. The findings indicate that risk factors for AKI in children include comorbidities such as diabetes mellitus with diabetic ketoacidosis, COVID-19, acute gastroenteritis, malaria, post-cardiac surgery, liver transplantation, wasp stings, critical illnesses requiring intensive care, the use of nephrotoxic substances such as ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol, and blood transfusions. The increasing prevalence of these risk factors has significant implications for nursing care. Nurses are expected to enhance their understanding of AKI to improve management strategies and reduce morbidity and mortality related to acute kidney injury in children.

Abstract

Stunting is a global nutritional issue and remains a significant health challenge in Indonesia. Although the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia has shown a downward trend, it has not yet met the national target. The Indonesian government has implemented various programs to prevent stunting, including the provision of supplementary food for stunted toddlers. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of supplementary food interventions for stunted toddlers in Indonesia. The research design is a literature review, with articles sourced from the PubMed and Google Scholar databases using the PRISMA method. Articles selected met predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulting in a total of 10 journal articles published between 2020 and 2024. The results indicated that 9 articles reported improvements in height and weight among stunted toddlers following the intervention, suggesting that supplementary food is an effective measure. One article reported that the provision of supplementary food did not significantly increase height. The types of supplementary food used included both instant products and those made from local ingredients. The conclusion indicates that supplementary feeding programs in Indonesia have been implemented effectively.

Abstract

Following the end of the COVID-19 pandemic status, the incidence of acute respiratory infections (ARIs) has increased, affecting not only children but also adolescents and adults. The Protection Motivation Theory (PMT) provides a framework for understanding how individuals engage in preventive behaviors against ARIs. This study aimed to examine the relationship between factors influencing preventive behavior against ARIs by integrating PMT, which includes threat appraisal and coping appraisal components. A cross-sectional research design was employed using an online questionnaire distributed to a randomly selected sample of 320 respondents. Data were analyzed using both bivariate and multivariate logistic regression methods. The multivariate analysis revealed that among the five assessed factors—perceived severity, perceived threat, self-efficacy, response efficacy, response cost, and behavioral intention—the most significant predictors were response efficacy (p = 0.002, OR = 3.439) and behavioral intention (p = 0.004, OR = 1.988). The findings indicate that individuals with higher response efficacy were 3.4 times more likely to engage in ARI prevention behavior, while those with stronger behavioral intentions were 1.9 times more likely to do so, compared to other influencing factors.

Abstract

Stunting is defined as a condition where children under five have a height-for-age z-score below -2 SD (stunted) or below -3 SD (severely stunted). In Lelak District, efforts to reduce stunting have begun at the village level, but key factors like parenting style and dietary habits still need improvement. This study aimed to examine the relationship between parenting style, food consumption patterns, and stunting among toddlers aged 24–60 months in the X Community Health Center area. A retrospective cross-sectional design was used, involving 60 mothers of stunted children selected through purposive sampling from Bangka Lelak and Lentang Villages. Parenting style was assessed using a validated questionnaire, while dietary patterns were measured through a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). Stunting data were obtained from height measurements recorded by the community health center. Results showed that 36.7% of respondents practiced permissive parenting, and 86.7% had poor dietary patterns. Overall, 70% of the toddlers were stunted. The Spearman Rank test revealed a significant relationship between parenting style and stunting (p = 0.000), as well as between dietary patterns and stunting (p = 0.000). Logistic regression analysis indicated that children of mothers with poor parenting were 0.159 times more likely to be stunted, and those with poor dietary practices were 0.043 times more likely to experience stunting. In conclusion, poor parenting and inadequate food consumption significantly contribute to stunting. Interventions focusing on improving parenting skills and nutritional awareness are essential for effective stunting prevention.
