Abstract

In the scheme of organization, Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and Hizb Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) are historically and ideologically bound in a solid emotional relationship. The two organizations are basically rooted in a transnational Islamic movement although in later devel- opment they ultimately develop their movements in different spheres; PKS focuses at the level of intra parliamentary with a formal political label whereas HTI concentrates at the level of extra parliamentary as a non-formal organizational movement. HTI, which openly refuses the system of democracy, as a matter of fact benefits significantly from de- mocracy in Indonesia as a “political blessing.” HTI strongly criticizes the system of democracy in Indonesia and as a substitute proposes the system of Khilafah. Ironically, HTI gains freedom to perform its move- ment, to speak, and to campaign as Indonesia applies democracy.

Abstract

This article discusses the Political Thought that Khalid Muhammad Khalid experience the duality of political thought. In the 1950s, when he wrote "Min Huna Nabda '" he believes religion is not a state, it must be a separation between religion and state. Based on his view that there should be a purification of the religion (Islam) from the clergy, upholding the concept of sosialism in public life, keep the desire to have a religious government, and provide political freedom for women. However, in the 1980s Khalid wrote the book "al-Daulah fi al-Islam". In his book, he revised the previous view on the separation of religion and state, and said that religion also set the state. Thus, Islam is religion and state. His thinking is influenced by political and sosial conditions of Egypt at that time, and its proximity to the Muslim Brotherhood. Dualism of Islamic political thought Khalid Muhammad Khalid is a natural thing in the context of thinking.

Abstract

This article describes the involvement of Majelis Zikir Tathma’innulqulub (MZT) in the local leaders election. Although this particular case occurred in the Medan city, it’s also explain in general the majlis dhikr phenomenon in Indonesia’s political practice. This phenomenon is interesting since the involvement of majlis dhikr is uncommon in the political world—as commonly known, sufism possess different (spiritual) orientation. The involvement can be best described as a political brand of sufism: in ritual and practice in supporting one of the local candidate. Thus, it describes the ritual of “yasinan and dhikr” from the beginning of election until the end as a “political ritual”. In addition, MZT also serves as a political marketing—spiritual adviser as well as political consultant; while in the practical aspect, MZT involved in hidden and public campaign. However, the candidate supported by MZT was lost. This fact explains that political brand of sufism has no significant influence in politics practice.

Abstract

Islam recognizes the importance of women in both public life and po- litical life by putting women in a honorable political status that reflect their nobility. Based on that argument, this study seeks to understand women’s social and political role in the early days of Islam. Focusing during life time of Prophet Muhammad, this paper tries to elaborate the genuine Islamic perspective on how women social and political rights are constructed. Using historical approach, this paper argues that gener- ally, Arab women’s social political right is poorly recognized by author- ity at that time. This condition emerged because there is no legal norms that can bring them back to the straight path. After Islam came to Arab, women life took a favorable turn. Honor, dignity even social and political right were carefully arranged by authority. Man and women were taught to respect each other both in private and social life.
