Abstract

Bullying occurs not only among children but also among adults, especially in the workplace. Rejection, negative treatment, and a lack of appreciation in the work environment can affect self-esteem. It is crucial to enhance self-esteem in the context of work because work takes up a significant portion of an individual’s life and can impact their well-being. The application of Al-Shabr (commonly known as patience) with reframing techniques, focusing on resilience, perseverance, and steadfastness, aims to build confidence and optimism, develop resilience in facing challenges, and make efforts to overcome issues by setting new goals. This study, conducted on three workers experiencing workplace bullying and the resulting low self-esteem, used a one-group pre-test post-test design and was analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The statistical results indicate that there are differences in results after implementing Al-Shabr-based reframing techniques, but the effect is not significant in terms of increasing the self-esteem of workers who experience bullying. The increase in scores showed that Al-Shabr-based reframing techniques had an impact on improving the self-esteem of workers who experienced bullying. Al-Shabr-based reframing techniques are promising and easy to implement but need to be tested on a wider sample.

Abstract

The controversy surrounding Haikal Hassan's endorsement of Pizza Hut products in Indonesia has sparked debates about the intersection of religious influence and consumer behaviour in the Muslim market, particularly following public concerns about the brand's perceived connection to Israel through its parent company's business relations. This situation raises questions about how religious figures' endorsements impact Muslim consumers' purchasing decisions, especially when promoting international food brands that face scrutiny over their global business affiliations. This research aims to quantitatively measure the effect of Haikal Hassan's endorsement on Muslim consumers' repurchase intention for Pizza Hut products, considering religiosity as an intermediary variable. Using a quantitative method with an explanatory design, this research involved 100 respondents of Pizza Hut Muslim consumers in Indonesia, which were determined using a purposive sampling approach. Information was obtained from a structured questionnaire and then examined using Path Analysis with SmartPLS version 4. According to the results, endorsement has a positive and significant effect on repurchase intention but a negative and significant effect on religiosity. On the other hand, religiosity has a negative and significant impact on repurchase intention and also significantly mediates the effect of endorsement on repurchase intention. These findings contribute to the understanding of Muslim consumer behaviour and the role of religiosity in marketing, and this can be a reference for companies in developing more appropriate marketing tactics that are sensitive to the religious values of Muslim consumers in Indonesia.

Abstract

In the current era of digital development, Muslim societies have unique and impactful ways of welcoming Ramadan; for instance, "75 Kufic Towards Ramadan" was initiated by the Friends of Kufic Square Indonesia (FOKS Indonesia) community. This welcome enhances the daily posting of Kufic works on social media for 75 days leading up to Ramadan. However, sometimes ordinary people find reading and understanding posts difficult, even though they contain meaning. Therefore, based on this issue, this research aims to describe the heuristic and hermeneutic reading of the collection of calligraphic works, “75 Kufic Towards Ramadan”. This study adopts a qualitative descriptive approach, employing content analysis techniques, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, focusing on Kufic texts shared in the "75 Kufic Towards Ramadan" series on FOKS Indonesia's official Instagram account (@foksindonesia). Subsequently, this data was analyzed using the heuristic and hermeneutic analysis techniques in Michael Riffaterre's semiotics. This study's findings are presented as an explanation of the heuristic and hermeneutic reading of the “75 Kufic Towards Ramadan” Kufic texts. Among these Kufic texts created by Kufiers are pieces of verse from the Quran, Hadith, and Mahfudzat in Arabic. These Kufic texts essentially represented deep feelings of joy for the Muslim community in welcoming Ramadan, which is full of glory and forgiveness. Consequently, people could receive positive messages and impressions when welcoming the month of Ramadan.

Abstract

This study investigates how waqf helps married women in northeastern Nigeria start family-owned enterprises. In the past, waqf, an Islamic charitable endowment, has supported underprivileged communities financially and with resources, acting as a mechanism for socioeconomic development. In this regard, waqf institutions can enable married women to start and maintain family-owned enterprises, tackling issues like restricted financial resources, socio-cultural constraints, and unstable economic conditions. By offering interest-free loans, training courses, and infrastructure assistance, waqf can encourage married women to start their own businesses, increasing their financial independence and boosting household income. The study uses qualitative research methodology, reviewing relevant literature on the subject matter and stakeholder interviews. Findings revealed that integrating waqf with family-owned business initiatives improves economic stability, reduces poverty levels, and strengthens family cohesion. Additionally, the study highlighted the need for strategic collaboration between waqf institutions, government bodies, and community organizations to optimize resource allocation and expand the impact of waqf on women's entrepreneurship. This research underscores the transformative potential of waqf in advancing gender-inclusive economic development in Northeastern Nigeria and provides recommendations for policymakers and waqf administrators to enhance the effectiveness of their programs.

Abstract

Shura is a decision-making model in Islamic governance that aims to make the right decisions for society in general and inclusively. While Allah has established the general framework for various issues, particularly administrative matters, the specific details are left to human discretion, to be determined through Shura and consultation. The significance of Shura is underscored in verse 38 of Surah Ash-Shura, where it is mentioned alongside fundamental Islamic principles such as prayer and zakat. Conversely, the democratic management model, a human construct, has evolved since ancient Greece, undergoing transformations resulting in diverse forms such as direct, representative, liberal, social, radical, dialogic, agonistic, and deliberative democracy. This study aims to compare the principles of Islamic governance with those of deliberative democracy. By analyzing their similarities and differences, this research seeks to evaluate the compatibility of these two governance frameworks. The findings provide insights into their potential alignment or divergence, contributing to a broader understanding of decision-making practices in diverse cultural and philosophical contexts.

Abstract

The development of halal tourism encounters the challenge of harmonizing Islamic values with local cultural traditions, ensuring that the authenticity of both is preserved and respected. This phenomenon is seen in South Lampung, where there is an urgent need to develop a halal tourism model that is harmonious with the local Malay culture. This study aims to analyze the process of integration of Islamic values and Malay culture in the development of halal tourism, identify the characteristics of culture-based halal tourism destinations, and formulate strategies to optimize the development of halal tourism in South Lampung. Through an ethnographic approach with in-depth observation, interviews and documentation analysis in three main destinations: Muara Indah Beach, Pasir Putih Beach, and Dermaga Bom Culinary Tourism. The results revealed a unique integration model based on the philosophy of “Piil Pesenggiri” which was successfully harmonized with sharia principles in the development of tourist destinations. This model is manifested in the implementation of “Islamic hospitality” that blends with the value of “Nemui Nyimah”, adaptation of traditional performing arts according to sharia standards, and preservation of local culinary through halal certification. These findings challenge the conventional paradigm that positions the modernization of halal tourism and the preservation of traditional culture as a dichotomy.

Abstract

Islamic studies in Indonesia are rapidly expanding in the financial realm. Sharia-based financial calculations are an important element in ensuring compliance with Islamic Sharia in various financial products and services affiliated with the halal food industry. The principle of sharia calculation in the halal industry includes the formulation of prohibitions such as interest (riba), gambling, fraud, and loss. As a Muslim-majority nation, Indonesia holds significant potential to lead in Islamic economics, particularly in finance. However, the management of information systems in the halal food sector remains underdeveloped, with many halal companies relying on conventional systems instead of Sharia-compliant solutions. This study seeks to address the identified issue by developing a Sharia-compliant information system for the food and beverage industry where the existing information system acquires halal, infaq, sadaqah, and waqf calculations by uploading without involving tax obligations. Data collection was conducted from halal-certified companies with branch offices in Semarang and Surakarta, while user requirements were defined through technical discussions with main managers and branch heads to ensure system relevance. Implementation of system development methods using a prototype approach by acquiring system development theory. In its contribution, feedback from users who are business people in the halal industry includes sharia after tax, displaying suppliers of products that have the legality of halal certification and product prices that are above the price of potential products: so that even though halal production costs more, the resulting information system will be able to control these costs. This system is able to reduce and control costs so that the company remains in the profit corridor.
