Abstract

Manual post-harvest handling of clove flowers remains a challenge for farmers because it requires a considerable amount of time and energy and produces inconsistent results. This is still practiced by clove farmers in Sugihan Hamlet, Duren Village, Sawahan Subdistrict, Nganjuk Regency, East Java. In an effort to overcome this problem, a clove threshing machine with a capacity of 12 kg per hour was developed, equipped with a system to separate the flowers from the stems of the clove harvest. The threshing mechanism uses synthetic rubber blades that rotate horizontally to maintain the quality of the flowers. The separation process is based on the principle of centrifugal force and the difference in density between the flowers and stems. The processing time for this machine is approximately 4 to 5 hours, based on machining time calculations. Test results show that the machine is able to work effectively with a separation success rate of over 90%. This machine is expected to increase farmer work efficiency and accelerate the post-harvest process of cloves in a more practical and economical manner.

Abstract

Improving the quality of public health is strongly influenced by the implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (CHLB). However, unhealthy behaviors are still found among 60 families in RW 08, Domas Village, Salatiga City, Central Java. Among these families, 60% of members smoke, 60% do not conduct mosquito nest eradication (PSN), and 53.3% have hypertension but show low medication adherence. Additionally, 37% of the population have only completed primary school education. This community service activity aimed to increase CHLB knowledge through the CERIA program (Cegah Penyakit, Rajin Hidup Bersih dan Sehat / Disease Prevention through Consistent Clean and Healthy Living) among adults and older adults in RW 08, Domas Village. The intervention consisted of a handwashing exercise and the delivery of health education to 20 participants. Educational materials included four posters addressing topics such as CHLB, medication adherence, smoking prevention, and mosquito control (PSN). To assess changes in knowledge, participants were asked to respond to eight statements before and after the intervention. The average knowledge score increased from 48.12% (pre-test) to 56.87% (post-test), indicating a positive change in participants’ understanding of CHLB practices. The CERIA health education program effectively improved community knowledge of CHLB. It is expected that this increased awareness will support healthier behavioral changes among adults and elderly residents.

Abstract

MSMEs are a crucial pillar of the Indonesian economy, including in the processed food sector, such as fried onions. However, most fried onion MSMEs still face challenges in packaging and marketing, which limits their competitiveness. This community service program aims to improve the competitiveness of fried onion MSMEs through packaging rebranding and the implementation of digital marketing strategies. The Participatory Action Research (PAR) method was used, actively involving partners in every stage of the activity, from problem identification and solution design, training, implementation, and evaluation. The results of the community service program showed an increase in product quality through the use of food-grade ziplock packaging, the creation of a brand identity through a new logo and label, and an expansion of marketing reach through social media and marketplaces. Initial evaluations showed a significant increase in sales since the third month, with selling prices increasing by around 40% and product distribution reaching markets across regions. These findings emphasize the importance of integrating packaging, branding, and digital marketing in strengthening the competitiveness of local food MSMEs.

Abstract

This community engagement program aims to enhance the scientific competence of Social Studies Education students at Universitas PGRI Sumatera Barat through a workshop on writing accredited scientific articles indexed by SINTA. The program was conducted in both offline and online formats on June 17, July 1, and July 8, 2025, employing a capacity-building approach based on experiential learning. This approach emphasizes active student participation in understanding, applying, and practicing the skills required for scientific writing. The workshop was designed to provide comprehensive knowledge of the fundamentals of academic writing and publication ethics, reference management techniques, strategies for publishing in SINTA-accredited journals, and hands-on practice in drafting scientific articles. Each session was facilitated through intensive mentoring by a qualified expert. The expected outcomes of this program include an improvement in students’ competence in writing scientific articles that meet SINTA accreditation standards and a broader understanding of the academic publication landscape. Moreover, this program serves as a platform to strengthen collaboration between study programs and higher education institutions in advancing the quality of higher education in Indonesia.

Abstract

Plastic waste poses a serious threat to environmental sustainability, including in Babau Village, Kupang. The solution offered in this Community Service Program (PkM) is to implement an empowerment model based on education and training in eco-brick production skills. The goal is to transform plastic waste from a discarded material into a useful resource, while simultaneously enhancing community capacity. The program was implemented in three main phases: preparation, execution (education and training), and evaluation. The results showed a significant improvement in participants' cognitive (knowledge) and psychomotor (skills) aspects. Over 35 eco-bricks were successfully produced and assembled into useful products, which also serve as tangible evidence of the program's success. This program concludes that the integration of environmental knowledge and creative skills in waste management can build community self-reliance and have a tangible impact on reducing plastic waste in the environment. The success of this model recommends its adoption in other regions with similar problems.

Abstract

This Community Service Programme (PKM) aims to assist Griya Gede Kemenuh Keramas in planning and designing community-based Pasraman and Event Space facilities as a strategy to preserve traditions, strengthen spirituality, and empower the local economy. Activities were carried out through field observations, site surveys, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with traditional leaders to determine the programme's spatial requirements. The analysis stage produced a master plan for the area that integrates a learning space, a ceremonial training room, a multipurpose ballroom, and simple villas as communal support facilities. The design development stage produced detailed architectural drawings, landscaping, material specifications, and cost estimates that partners can use for phased construction planning. The results of the activities show that the spatial design not only meets the needs of ritual and spiritual education but also opens up economic opportunities for the community, particularly in the service and hospitality sectors. This programme serves as a model of culture-based empowerment, where the preservation of customs goes hand in hand with the community's economic independence. Assistance continues during the implementation phase, even though the construction costs are entirely the responsibility of the partners.

Abstract

Research related to the estimation of the remaining strength of cement-based buildings provides benefits, namely the investigation of the level of damage to the building, with the aim of determining how severe the damage category of a building is. The purpose of the community service (abdimas) activities carried out is the investigation of damage to the school building, namely Pasiripis Public Elementary School, Lembang District, West Bandung Regency, to produce a technical recommendation document for repairing the school building. To achieve this goal, several abdimas activities have been carried out, namely the stages of measuring the building, identifying building damage, structural analysis to determine the building's ability to work loads, making a 3D model of the existing building, and calculating the budget plan related to the repair of the building. Presentation of documents and building modeling as a reference in the technical implementation of repairs, cost estimation, calculation of work volume, and a structured implementation plan using a Gantt chart to ensure timeliness and control of work progress. The assessment covers two main aspects: Process Evaluation and Outcome Evaluation. Process evaluation focuses on verifying the accuracy of data at each step, from cross-checking mapping and field measurements, to the suitability of the 3D visual design, and to the validity of the structural analysis. The outcome evaluation aims to verify the quality and safety of the repaired structure and ensure that major damage to the building has been resolved.
