Abstract

Higher education for women in rural areas is a key element in community empowerment, but access to it is still hampered by social and economic factors. Women in Pasir Gombong Village, Bayah District, face challenges in accessing higher education due to unequal opportunities, conservative social norms, and lack of sustainable institutional support. This community service aims to increase women's participation in higher education by applying a participatory approach involving various stakeholders. The programme includes an initial survey to map the main barriers, focus group discussions (FGDs) to explore community perspectives, educational workshops to increase understanding of the benefits of higher education, and academic mentoring for young women who plan to continue their education. The programme evaluation was conducted through pre-test and post-test to measure changes in community perceptions towards higher education for women after the intervention. The results show that this intervention programme succeeded in raising community awareness about the importance of higher education for women, strengthening institutional support, and increasing women's motivation to pursue higher education. The conclusion of this service emphasises the importance of a holistic approach in overcoming social and institutional barriers. This model can be replicated in other areas by adjusting the intervention strategy according to the social and cultural characteristics of the local community.

Abstract

An attractive tourist village is a village that has its uniqueness and characteristics, both from its natural beauty, and culture and also the potential of its human resources. The concept of a tourist village will have a positive impact on a village in preserving the nature and culture of the village and requires community participation so that the community itself has a high sense of ownership and feels the benefits of the existence of a tourist village. Tumbuk Tebing Village is a village that is starting to pioneer in making this area a tourist village, starting to explore the existing tourism potential and introducing it to the tourism industry. The management of a locally-based tourist village requires the concern and participation of the community itself always to innovate and be creative in developing their village area which is used as a tourist village. This community service is carried out by providing initial knowledge related to tourism villages, especially seeing the potential in the Tumbuk Tebing Village Area, South Bengkulu Regency, including beaches with white rocks, rice fields, habitat for white stork colonies, swamp birds, and a strong rural environment that can be packaged in the concept of Community-based Tourism, conducting question and answer discussions, and conducting surveys on attractions, accessibility, and existing facilities. This community service activity is expected to help Tumbuk Tebing Tourism Village, South Bengkulu Regency, in realizing becoming a tourist destination.

Abstract

Red brick is the most commonly used building material in East Flores Regency, not only due to it’s availability but also because it provides aesthetic value, a natural impression, and good durability for buildings. However, many builders still lack understanding of proper and innovative installation techniques, thus the use of red bricks is limited to conventional wall partitions (which is not exposed). Through this socialization and workshop, participants were given an understanding of various models of exposed red brick installation patterns, as well as the techniques and step by step installation methods. This activity emphasizes aspects of design innovation so that builders are able to produce unique and high-value works. The implementation method includes material delivery, direct demonstration, and installation practice by participants. The results of the activity showed an increase in participant’s understanding and skills in applying aesthetic and unique red brick installation techniques. Thus, this activity is expected to improve technical skills, enhance understanding of design innovation, thereby enabling their work to achieve higher quality, refined aesthetics, and greater economic value.

Abstract

This Community Service (PkM) activity was carried out with the aim of improving the skills of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Setono Village in producing and editing promotional videos using the CapCut application. In today's digital era, the ability to create interesting video content is an important asset for MSMEs in marketing their products. This workshop managed to attract 40 participants, exceeding the initial target of 30 participants, which shows the high enthusiasm of MSMEs to improve their digital skills. The materials presented include the basics of creating video content, effective shooting techniques, introduction and tutorials on using the CapCut application, and product branding strategies to increase sales. The results of the post-test and direct practice showed that participants had understood and were able to apply video editing skills using CapCut. Although face-to-face discussion sessions were limited, interaction and consultation continued through personal communication. This activity is expected to make a significant contribution to increasing the competitiveness of MSMEs in Setono Village through the use of social media as a means of promotion. The success of this program was supported by the enthusiasm of the participants and the relevance of the material to the needs of MSMEs in the digital era.

Abstract

Stress is one of the mental health problems that can be experienced by adolescents. The dynamics of the transition to adulthood can create various challenges for adolescents. This is also accompanied by high peer competition, environmental demands, the urge to show themselves and other factors making adolescents a vulnerable group related to mental health issues. Stress, even in the mild category, if unrecognized and untreated can lead to greater potential for mental health problems. Based on this, the community service activities carried out aim to provide education to adolescent students regarding strategies in managing daily stress and introduce one of the strategies that can be done for stress management by doing mindful journaling. The methods provided were lectures, discussions and writing simulations for 24 students at the vocational high school level. The results of the community service activities showed that there was an increase in knowledge after being given the material as well as the ability to identify stressors, thoughts-feelings and evaluate actions in dealing with the stressors faced through mindful journaling exercises.

Abstract

Education plays an important role in human life as a vehicle for creating high-quality human resources capable of competing globally. Survey data in Kampung Bulak Kambing, Tangerang City, shows that only about 2% of the community continues their higher education to the Diploma (D1) or undergraduate (S1) level. Therefore, the community service carried out for three months from January to March 2024 in Kampung Bulak Kambing, Jurumudi Village aimed at developing and empowering educational integrity of community. The three stages of community service involve the preparation, implementation and evaluation stages. There are five main programs conducted in this community service program, namely (1) tutoring education program; (2) religious education assistance; (3) storytelling assistance; (4) healthy gymnastics and educational games; (5) establishment of a reading corner. The results of community service show that community participation and motivation in implementing education programs have increased. In addition, it is evident that the community's knowledge, literacy, and intellectual abilities have increased after participating in the education integrity development and empowerment program based on evaluation results.

Abstract

The low interest in learning among Indonesian students is a major challenge in the world of education. Uninteresting teaching methods often make students lose their motivation to learn. Therefore, the development of innovative and interactive Internet of Things (IoT) learning materials using LEGO Education and Elecfreaks NEZHA Kit, especially for children with special needs, is the main focus of this activity. This activity involved three lecturers from Duta Wacana Christian University and a team of teachers from the Robotics Education Center (REC) Yogyakarta branch. The results of the activity showed that the use of LEGO Education and Elecfreaks NEZHA Kit was effective in increasing students' interest in learning, developing critical thinking skills, problem solving, and collaboration. Challenges in implementation include the limited number of sensors and actuators and the need for material adjustments. Suggestions for further development include the addition of sensors and actuators, ongoing training for teachers, and regular evaluation of learning materials. In addition, this activity also provides recommendations for improving the quality of teaching through ongoing training for teachers and regular evaluation of the learning materials that have been developed. Thus, it is hoped that a more inclusive and adaptive learning environment can be created for children with special needs, as well as improving the overall quality of education.

Abstract

Currently, the digital world is part of people's lives. The use of social media provides many positive things, but many potential crimes will have an impact on users' losses. For this reason, the public needs to be educated on digital data security and the skills to protect and maintain the privacy of their digital data. This community service activity (PkM) is an effort to provide education and the ability for the community to protect digital data. Community service activities took the form of training with 30 tourism village administrators from five villages in the City of Waingapu, East Sumba. The approach used is a participatory and experiential learning approach with discussion, brainstorming, and storytelling learning techniques. This activity can provide information and increase participants' knowledge about digital data security and protection. Participants are also able to protect their email and social media accounts. Through this activity, the training participants can formulate a joint code of ethics as a good practice in social media.

Abstract

About 12% of all deaths in the world are caused by cancer, and it is the second leading cause of death after cardiovascular disease. In Indonesia, the prevalence of cancer is 4.3 per 1,000 population. The high mortality rate in cancer patients occurs because most patients seek treatment when the cancer has reached the final stage, so early detection is critical. Early detection can be achieved by the National Cancer Control Program (NCCP), one of its activities being cancer registration. The purpose of cancer registration is the maintenance of a file or list of all cancer cases that occur in a particular population; in achieving this goal, assistance, and training are needed for health workers to compile this cancer registry. The method used in this study is a lecture method conducted for 2 days in the medical record room of Bethesda Yogyakarta Hospital for health workers who are directly involved in data management. After conducting the lecture method, it was continued with a group discussion as a case study of filling out the cancer registry. The training results obtained an increase in knowledge (approximately 20%) of all participants who participated in this training and an increase in technical ability in correctly filling out the registry form from 50% to 95%. From this study, it can be concluded that there was a significant increase in the knowledge and skills of health workers using a training method that combined theory and practice.

Abstract

Plastic waste processing has been widely used as one of the solutions to overcome problems and minimize the generation of plastic waste. Community partnership empowerment program activities aim to provide education to environmentally conscious communities related to the importance of sustainable waste management and develop an integrated plastic waste management model. This community partnership empowerment program uses a comprehensive and thorough approach in dealing with the problems faced by the target community. The method in this activity is socialization in the form of Forum Group Discussion (FGD), group discussions, and training. This activity produces an integrated waste management development model that can produce recycled plastic waste products such as paving blocks with the addition of polyethylene terephthalate (PE) T plastic shreds to sand and cement, plastic roof tile products by utilizing high density polyethylene (HDPE) type plastic waste. The sustainable and environmentally friendly development model can help the process of overcoming and reducing the generation of plastic waste in the Limo District area, so that it is able to carry out the process of creating recycled products based on plastic waste that have economic value and utility value.
