Abstract

The silent reader phenomenon is one of the communication behaviors that is often found in students' online class groups. This behavior refers to individuals who read and follow information in a group, but never respond or actively engage in discussions. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of silent readers in class groups and explore its impact on student academic communication. The method used is a literature study by examining various scientific sources that discuss digital communication, group interaction, and student behavior in online learning. The results showed that silent readers' behavior was influenced by internal factors such as low self-confidence, fear of making mistakes, and low motivation, as well as external factors such as social hierarchy, group communication culture, and information density in the group. This behavior has a negative impact on academic communication, including reduced two-way interaction, decreased quality of discussion, and inhibited collaboration between students. However, some students still get information through passive observation. Therefore, efforts are needed to create a more inclusive communication environment and encourage the active involvement of all group members so that academic communication can run more effectively.

Abstract

This study examines the role of motivation and creativity in hydroponic wick system training for youth at PKBM Aruhhama. A qualitative approach was employed through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving three training participants as informants. The findings reveal that intrinsic motivation significantly encouraged participant engagement, as indicated by enthusiastic attendance and active inquiry behavior during the training sessions. Participants who demonstrated higher motivation showed a better understanding of wick system principles and independently explored the Deep Flow Technique (DFT) as an extension of their learning. Creativity was reflected in the participants’ adaptive approaches to applying hydroponics within their household environments, although two participants still required continuous assistance to independently assemble the system. The training program at PKBM Aruhhama effectively introduced hydroponics as a practical skill for urban youth; however, the sustainability of the program depends on post-training support structures such as peer learning groups and structured mentoring. This study highlights the importance of aligning motivational design with creative facilitation in community-based vocational training programs.

Abstract

This study examines TikTok as a global platform phenomenon driven by ByteDance's international expansion strategy and analyzes its impact on consumer behavior in emerging markets, with particular focus on Indonesia. Using a qualitative literature review methodology, this research synthesizes findings from nine empirical studies published between 2024 and 2026 to construct a comprehensive understanding of how TikTok's global reach, algorithm-driven content distribution, and social commerce integration are reshaping consumer purchasing patterns, brand awareness formation, and social consumption behavior in developing economies. The findings indicate that TikTok has emerged as the world's largest social media platform by user base, with Indonesia ranking first globally with 194.37 million users as of 2025, and projected global advertising revenue reaching USD 12 billion in 2024. TikTok's penetration into Indonesian consumer markets has produced measurable behavioral transformations: SME businesses adopting TikTok marketing report sales increases of 20-40% (Afriany et al., 2025), social media influence accounts for 39.2% of consumer behavior variance among millennials (Kurniawati, 2024), and TikTok content exposure explains 64.2% of consumptive behavior variance among Generation Z (Husain, 2025). This study further identifies that TikTok's global expansion has introduced a new consumer behavior paradigm characterized by algorithm-mediated discovery, shoppertainment-driven purchase decisions, and emotionally-influenced consumption that differs fundamentally from conventional e-commerce behavior. The study concludes that TikTok represents not merely a social media platform but a global consumer behavior transformation engine that demands new strategic frameworks for businesses competing in emerging markets.

Abstract

This study examines the use of Juvenalian satire in three songs by System of a Down, namely B.Y.O.B., Chop Suey!, and Toxicity. The research applies Susanna Morton Braund’s theory of Juvenalian satire and Emilio Betti’s hermeneutic approach to uncover the social, political, and moral criticism embedded in the lyrics. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the study analyzes diction, symbolism, irony, sarcasm, and confrontational expressions found in the selected songs. The findings reveal that the songs consistently employ the major characteristics of Juvenalian satire: contemptuous tone, sharp criticism, irony and sarcasm, and provocative confrontation. B.Y.O.B. criticizes war, class inequality, and political hypocrisy; Chop Suey! questions social judgment and moral dogmatism; and Toxicity condemns the destructive effects of modern urban civilization and ideological domination. Through aggressive language and symbolic imagery, System of a Down transforms music into a medium of resistance against injustice and abuse of power. The study concludes that Juvenalian satire remains relevant in contemporary music because it provides a powerful framework for expressing dissent and encouraging critical reflection on social realities.

Abstract

The Program Indonesia Pintar (PIP) represents a strategic government initiative designed to expand educational accessibility and foster equity for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds through the Kartu Indonesia Pintar (KIP). At the local level, the Palangka Raya City Education Office plays a crucial role as a facilitator and supervisor of this program. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of PIP's implementation by the Palangka Raya City Education Office, evaluate its effectiveness in promoting educational equity, and identify the driving and hindering factors encountered in the field. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were gathered through literature and documentation studies of scientific journals, government regulations, and official institutional reports. The findings indicate that the distribution of PIP in Palangka Raya City has generated a positive impact by alleviating students' financial burdens and mitigating dropout risks. Nevertheless, the program's efficiency at the local level remains constrained by classic issues such as data inaccuracies in student proposals (inclusion-exclusion errors), banking bureaucracies, delayed disbursements, and a lack of socialization to suburban areas. Continuous refinement of Dapodik data systems, stringent supervision by the Education Office, and enhanced multi-stakeholder coordination are imperative to ensure the optimal acceleration of educational equity in Palangka Raya City.

Abstract

Mosque youth activities are one form of youth development that plays an important role in improving the spiritual, social, and leadership qualities of adolescents amid the challenges of modern development. This study aims to analyze the role of mosque youth activities as a means of youth empowerment at Masjid Ar-Raudhah, Bambu Kuning. The method used was a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation involving mosque youth administrators and members. The results of the study indicate that various activities such as regular religious studies, leadership training, social activities, and commemorations of Islamic holidays were able to enhance religious understanding, social skills, and the sense of responsibility among adolescents. In addition, these activities also served as a medium for character building and diverting youth from negative environmental influences. However, the implementation still faced obstacles in the form of limited facilities and the low participation of some adolescents. Therefore, it can be concluded that mosque youth activities have a strategic role in youth empowerment, and continuous support from mosque administrators and the community is needed to optimize their implementation.

Abstract

This study examines the practice of household waste burning in Pusakamulya Village from a sociological perspective, emphasizing the relationship between the community's practical rationality and the structural limitations surrounding it. Household waste is a growing environmental issue in Indonesia, where the household sector contributes more than half of the total national waste generation, but much of it is not optimally managed (SIPSN, 2025). Under these conditions, open waste burning remains a common practice among rural communities because it is considered the easiest, quickest, and cheapest way to reduce waste accumulation (Mustafa et al., 2025). This study used a qualitative approach with a case study method, through data collection techniques such as observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation with the community, village officials, health cadres, and community leaders. Data analysis was conducted using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which includes data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing (Miles et al., 2019). The analytical framework uses a sociological perspective of health, integrating Pierre Bourdieu's concept of habitus, Anthony Giddens' structuration, and Ulrich Beck's concept of risk society. The results of the study indicate that the practice of waste burning is driven not only by habit or low environmental awareness, but also by significant structural limitations, such as the lack of a regular waste collection system, weak waste bank institutions, and a lack of integrated waste management facilities. These conditions leave communities with limited options, making burning waste a practical rationality considered the most feasible in everyday life (Bourdieu, 1990; Azkiyah, 2026).
