Abstract

More than 50% of 1st trimester pregnancies are accompanied by emesis. Nausea and vomiting in pregnant women is a physiological condition but can have a bad impact if it occurs continuously. The body will become weak, pale and lack fluids so that the blood becomes thick (hemoconcentration). This inhibits the supply of oxygen and nutrients from the mother to the fetus. Emesis can be treated with medication or vitamin B complex or vitamin B6. Non-pharmacological treatments include aromatherapy and hypnotherapy. The aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of a combination of hypnotherapy and aromatherapy in reducing emesis gravidarum. Quasi experimental research method, one group pre and posttest design. The sample consisted of 30 pregnant women with emesis. Purposive sampling technique. data analysis using the dependent t test. Measuring the nausea scale with the Rhodes index obtained the average nausea and vomiting score before administering the combination aromatherapy and hypnotherapy based on the Rhodes Index in mothers, namely 21.1 and there was a decrease in the score after giving a combination of hypnotherapy and aromatherapy to 18.8. There is a gift effect combination of hypnotherapy and aromatherapy in reducing emesis gravidarum (p-value = 0.001). Based on the research results, it can be concluded administering a combination of hypnotherapy and aromatherapy is effective in reducing emesis gravidarum in first trimester pregnant women.

Abstract

Understanding the Relationship Between Knowledge, Vaginal Hygiene Practices, and Vaginal Discharge in Adolescents. This study aims to investigate the relationship between knowledge levels, vaginal hygiene practices, and vaginal discharge among adolescents, with a focus on identifying factors influencing vaginal health outcomes within this demographic group. A cross-sectional study design was employed, involving the recruitment of female adolescents aged 13 to 19 years from diverse settings such as schools, community centers, and healthcare facilities. Data were collected through structured surveys, clinical assessments, and standardized instruments, capturing information on knowledge levels, hygiene practices, and types of vaginal discharge. Descriptive statistics, graphical representations, and inferential statistics, including correlation analysis, regression analysis, and mediation/moderation analyses, were used to analyze the data and interpret the findings. The findings revealed positive correlations between knowledge levels and adherence to recommended hygiene practices, as well as an inverse relationship between knowledge levels and the prevalence of abnormal vaginal discharge among adolescents. Vaginal hygiene practices were found to partially mediate the relationship between knowledge levels and vaginal discharge, highlighting their importance in translating knowledge into actionable strategies for maintaining vaginal health. Socio-cultural factors were identified as moderators of these relationships, underscoring the need for culturally sensitive interventions that address diverse cultural contexts and socio-economic disparities.

Abstract

Acute Otitis Media (AOM) represents a common childhood ailment with significant implications for pediatric health. While breastfeeding has long been purported to confer protection against AOM, the precise nature of this relationship and underlying mechanisms remain incompletely understood. This research aimed to elucidate the relationship between breastfeeding practices and AOM incidence in children, as well as to explore potential mechanisms underlying this association. A comprehensive review of existing literature was conducted, encompassing systematic reviews, meta-analyses, longitudinal cohort studies, and mechanistic investigations. Studies investigating the incidence of AOM in relation to breastfeeding practices, as well as mechanistic pathways such as maternal antibodies, antimicrobial factors, anti-inflammatory properties, and microbiota modulation, were synthesized to provide a comprehensive understanding of the topic. The synthesis of existing evidence revealed a consistent and robust association between breastfeeding practices and reduced AOM incidence in children. Meta-analyses demonstrated a lower AOM risk among breastfed infants compared to non-breastfed counterparts, with exclusive breastfeeding yielding the greatest risk reduction. Longitudinal cohort studies further elucidated a dose-response relationship between breastfeeding duration and AOM risk, underscoring the protective effect of prolonged breastfeeding. Mechanistic investigations highlighted the role of maternal antibodies, antimicrobial factors, anti-inflammatory properties, and microbiota modulation in mediating breastfeeding's protective effect against AOM.

Abstract

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by cognitive decline and memory loss, with increasing prevalence worldwide. Recent research has explored the impact of nutritional interventions on AD progression, aiming to identify effective dietary strategies for prevention and management. This research reviews current evidence on various dietary patterns, including the Mediterranean, MIND, and ketogenic diets, and their effects on cognitive function and AD biomarkers. Advances in understanding the mechanisms through which diet influences AD pathology have highlighted the potential for specific nutrients to modulate neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, and amyloid plaque formation. Despite promising findings, challenges such as long-term diet adherence, variability in individual responses, and ethical considerations in human trials persist. The potential benefits of integrating nutritional strategies into AD treatment plans are substantial, offering a complementary approach to pharmacological therapies and contributing to improved patient outcomes and public health. Addressing these challenges through personalized nutrition and continued research could enhance the effectiveness of dietary interventions and provide a pathway toward more effective prevention and management of Alzheimer’s disease.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of occupational therapy on the recovery of post-stroke patients, focusing on improvements in motor skills, cognitive function, emotional well-being, and overall quality of life. A total of 100 stroke survivors were randomly assigned to either an occupational therapy intervention group or a control group receiving standard care. The intervention comprised individualized, task-oriented therapy over six months, addressing motor, cognitive, and emotional impairments. Outcomes were measured using standardized assessments, including the Fugl-Meyer Assessment, Barthel Index, Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Additionally, qualitative interviews provided insights into patient experiences and therapy impacts. The occupational therapy group showed significant improvements in motor skills, as evidenced by higher scores on the Fugl-Meyer Assessment and increased functional independence as measured by the Barthel Index. Cognitive function improved markedly, with higher MoCA scores observed in the intervention group. Emotional well-being also enhanced, with reduced depressive symptoms reported on the BDI. Qualitative data revealed increased patient satisfaction, autonomy, and a more positive outlook on recovery. Occupational therapy is effective in promoting recovery for stroke survivors, leading to notable improvements in motor function, cognitive abilities, and emotional health.
