Abstract

This community service program aimed to strengthen the communication and administrative competencies of the board members and active members of Karang Taruna Banjarsari, Banyuwangi Regency, through practical Indonesian language training. The program employed a participatory and educational approach based on organizational needs and organizational artifacts. The implementation stages included needs assessment, preparation of training materials, interactive training sessions, editing practice, mentoring in drafting official letters, proposals, and activity reports, reflective evaluation, and the formulation of follow-up actions. The data for this article were derived from the program proposal, training materials, sample practice documents, mentoring records, and the instructional materials produced during the program. Data were analyzed using a descriptive qualitative approach by examining language-related issues, structural completeness, information accuracy, formatting consistency, and document functionality. The findings indicate that the training model successfully integrated language conventions with the practical needs of organizational work. Language rules, which had previously been perceived merely as spelling conventions, were reframed within the broader context of conveying intentions, preparing plans, documenting decisions, and reporting organizational activities. Case-based exercises enabled participants to identify wordiness, unclear objectives, inappropriate target audiences, ambiguous information regarding time and venue, unrealistic budgeting, and incomplete document structures. The program produced practical organizational resources, including training materials on official correspondence, proposal and report templates, examples of sentence revision, and an administrative checklist.

Abstract

Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata/KKN) is one of the implementations of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education aimed at integrating education, research, and community service to assist rural development. Kayu Aro Village, Kampar Utara District, Kampar Regency, has considerable potential in the agricultural sector, which serves as the primary livelihood of the local community. However, land management is still predominantly based on monoculture systems, resulting in less optimal land productivity and limited long-term economic benefits. Therefore, the 2026 Community Service Program of Universitas Riau implemented an agroforestry program by iintegrating forestry crops, namely durian (Durio zibethinus) and jengkol (Archidendron pauciflorum), with maize (Zea mays) using a boundary planting pattern. The iprogram was conducted from 18 July 2026 through coordination, socialization, extension activities, group discussions, seedling distribution, and direct planting practices. A total of 150 seedlingsi consisting of 75 durian seedlings and 75 jengkol seedlings were distributed to the Srikandi Farmer Group and Hijrah Lestari Farmer Group. The seedlings were planted along the boundaries of maize fields, allowing the annual crops to grow without disrupting maize cultivation while providing long-term ecological and economic benefits. The implementation showed positive community participation and improved public understanding regarding sustainable agroforestry practices. This program is expected to enhance land productivity, improve environmental quality, reduce land degradation, and support sustainable land management in Kayu Aro Village.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to determine the profile of total cholesterol levels among older adults and to improve their knowledge regarding strategies to reduce cholesterol levels through health education. The methods included measuring total cholesterol levels using a rapid test based on the Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) method and providing direct health education supported by educational media. The target participants were older adults aged 60 years and above residing in Puri Astapada Indah Housing Complex RW 10, Tambak Beras Hamlet, Tambakrejo Village, Jombang District. The results of total cholesterol examination showed variations in cholesterol levels among the 40 participants. Half of the respondents (20 individuals; 50%) had normal cholesterol levels (<200 mg/dL), while 10 respondents (25%) were classified as borderline high (200–239 mg/dL), and another 10 respondents (25%) had high cholesterol levels (?240 mg/dL). Older adults with high cholesterol levels generally had risk factors such as unhealthy dietary habits and insufficient physical activity. The pre-education knowledge questionnaire revealed that the majority of respondents (30 individuals; 75%) had poor knowledge, while 10 respondents (25%) had moderate knowledge. Following the health education intervention, participants' knowledge improved significantly, with all 40 respondents (100%) demonstrating good knowledge. This community service activity had a positive impact on improving older adults' understanding of cholesterol management and is expected to encourage behavioral changes toward a healthier lifestyle. Furthermore, the program served as an early detection effort to identify the risk of cardiovascular disease within the community.
