Abstract

Prosocial behavior is an important indicator of students' social development and is often assumed to be influenced by their residential environment. This study aims to examine the differences in prosocial behavior between boarding and non-boarding students in the Islamic Religious Education Study Program at UIN Syekh Wasil Kediri. Boarding in this study refers to students living in Islamic boarding schools or religious dormitories. The study used a comparative, quantitative approach with a sample of 224 students, comprising 112 boarding and 112 non-boarding students. Data were collected using a prosocial behavior scale and analyzed using an independent samples t-test. The results showed no significant differences in prosocial behavior between boarding and non-boarding students. The small effect size indicates that residential status is not strong enough to explain variations in students' prosocial behavior. These findings emphasize that prosocial behavior needs to be understood in terms of the quality of social experiences, relational support, and the internalization of values, rather than solely in terms of residential category.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital-based learning has increased academic demands and psychological challenges, leading to higher levels of academic stress among university students. This study aims to examine the roles of social support, academic self-efficacy, and subjective well-being in predicting academic stress in digital learning environments. This study employed a quantitative correlational approach using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to analyze data collected from 888 university students in Indonesia. The instruments included the Perception of Academic Stress Scale (PAS), the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), a composite Subjective Well-Being Scale (SWLS and PANAS), and an Academic Self-Efficacy scale. The findings revealed that social support significantly enhances subjective well-being and academic self-efficacy while reducing academic stress. Academic self-efficacy demonstrated a paradoxical role, as it significantly increased academic stress while also functioning as both a mediator and a moderator. In contrast, subjective well-being did not have a significant effect on academic stress. In conclusion, academic stress in digital learning is shaped by complex interactions between external and internal factors, with self-efficacy acting as a double-edged construct. This study contributes by challenging the conventional assumption that self-efficacy is purely protective and highlighting its dual role in digital learning contexts.

Abstract

The digital transformation in education has significantly impacted students’ learning processes in Indonesia. Uncontrolled use of technology has triggered various learning issues, including concentration difficulties, academic anxiety, low motivation, and internet addiction. This study aims to identify effective counseling approaches in addressing students’ learning problems in Indonesia and to analyze both learning challenges and the factors influencing intervention success. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method was employed, following PRISMA and Cochrane guidelines, synthesizing 29 selected studies published between 2010 and 2025. The findings indicate that counseling approaches such as individual counseling, group counseling, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Counseling (REBC), reality therapy, and self-management are effective in improving students’ independence, motivation, discipline, and in reducing academic anxiety and digital addiction. The success of these interventions is influenced by internal factors (emotions, motivation, and study habits) and external factors (family support, school conditions, and technology integration). This study concludes that action-oriented, structured, and contextually adaptive counseling approaches are essential in responding to the socio-digital challenges faced by students. The results of this review offer valuable insights for developing school counseling policies and professional counselor training programs that are responsive to the demands of digital-era learning.

Abstract

This study addresses the need for an Islamic psychospiritual counseling model that integrates spiritual, psychological, and moral dimensions based on an Islamic conception of human nature. It aims to reconstruct a psychospiritual counseling model through a Qalbun-Centered approach grounded in the thought of Imam al-Ghazālī. Using qualitative library research, the study examines Al-Ghazālī’s major works, particularly Ihya’ ‘Ulum al-Din and Kimiyā’ al-Sa‘ādah, alongside relevant scholarly literature. The findings indicate that al-qalb functions as the center of human consciousness, morality, and spirituality, while psychological disturbances may emerge from imbalances among al-qalb, al-nafs, al-‘aql, and al-ruh. Based on these insights, the study proposes a holistic Qalbun-Centered counseling model structured around tazkiyat al-nafs, encompassing takhalli, tahalli, and tajalli to facilitate psychospiritual well-being. The study contributes a conceptually integrated Islamic counseling framework that extends conventional psychological approaches by positioning spiritual purification and the transformation of the qalb as core mechanisms of counseling. The model has implications for the development of culturally and religiously responsive counseling practices, as well as for future empirical research on Islamic psychospiritual interventions.

Abstract

This study investigates the transformative da’wah model through Islamic spiritual guidance in contemporary health services, focusing on patients at Roemani Muhammadiyah Hospital Semarang. The study addresses the critical gap in integrating spiritual care into medical treatment within Islamic health institutions in Indonesia. This qualitative research employs a phenomenological approach within an interpretive research paradigm. Data were gathered from twenty (20) patients through semi-structured interviews and participant observation between January 2025 and July 2025. Collected data were analysed thematically using deductive coding to identify recurring patterns related to the da’wah delivery, spiritual intervention, and patientwell-being outcomes. The study found that the transformative Da’wah model comprises four interrelated dimensions: (1) Prophylactic da’wah (preventive spiritual education), (2) Curative da’wah (healing-oriented spiritual intervention), (3) Rehabilitative da’wah (recovery-focused spiritual support), and (4) Promotive da’wah (well-being enhancement). Patients reported significant improvements in psychological resilience, spiritual well-being, and coping capacity when Islamic spiritual guidance was systematically integrated into healthcare delivery. Theoretically and practically, the model extends the scholarship of Islamic guidance and counselling (bimbingan dan konseling Islam) by offering hospital-based rohaniawan and Islamic counsellors a structured, stage-sensitive framework for designing, delivering, and evaluating spiritually integrated patient counselling services.

Abstract

College students often face various academic, social, and emotional challenges that can affect their psychological well-being. Students living in a Ma’had environment face additional demands, including academic responsibilities, dormitory regulations, and social adjustment processes, which underscore the importance of self-compassion as a psychological protective factor. This study aimed to examine the relationships among resilience, self-disclosure, self-esteem, and self-compassion in college students. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional correlational survey design was employed. Participants consisted of 101 second-semester students enrolled in the Ma’had program, selected through random sampling. Data were collected using Likert-scale instruments measuring resilience, self-disclosure, self-esteem, and self-compassion, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression in SPSS version 26. The results showed that resilience, self-disclosure, and self-esteem jointly and significantly predicted self-compassion (R = 0.550, p < 0.001), with a coefficient of determination (R² = 0.303) indicating that the predictors accounted for 30.3% of the variance in self-compassion. These findings suggest the need for counseling services that incorporate Reality Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy techniques, integrated with Islamic values such as self-reflection, gratitude, and patience.

Abstract

Nice girl syndrome poses a challenge to female students’ social lives, and assertiveness plays a key role in minimizing its effects. This study aims to examine the influence of the Big Five personality traits and self-esteem on the assertiveness of students with nice girl syndrome, using an associative, cross-sectional approach. A total of 148 female 10th-grade students at SMA Negeri 10 Padang who exhibited an extreme level of nice girl syndrome were selected through purposive sampling. Research instruments included the Engel Nice Girl Syndrome instrument, an assertiveness scale developed by the research team, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and the adapted Big Five Inventory. All instruments have demonstrated acceptable psychometric characteristics, with factor loadings ranging from 0.277 to 0.809 and Cronbach’s alpha coefficients ranging from 0.70 to 0.875. Findings showed that two dimensions of the Big Five personality traits have a significant effect on the assertiveness of students with nice girl syndrome, namely conscientiousness and openness, with p-values of 0.033 and 0.023, respectively. Self-esteem showed the strongest and most significant effect on the assertiveness of these students, with a p-value of 0.002. Simultaneous testing of the Big Five personality traits and self-esteem on the assertiveness of nice girl syndrome students also revealed a significant influence with a p-value of 0.000 <0.05. The coefficient of determination indicated that these variables jointly predicted 26.8% of the variance in assertiveness among students with nice girl syndrome. These findings can serve as a basis for developing school-based counselling interventions that address personality characteristics and self-esteem as key factors in enhancing assertiveness among students with nice girl syndrome.
