Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas tentang strategi kesopanan dalam proses pembelajaran daring oleh mahasiswa Fakultas Sastra Universitas Darma Agung. Dengan mengacu pada strategi kesopanan seperti yang diusulkan oleh Brown and levinson (1987).Masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah menemukan jenis-jenis strategi kesopanan dalam belajar daring oleh mahasiswa di Universitas Darma Agung. Penelitian ini dianalisis menggunakan metode kualitatif yang mana sumber data yang dibutuhkan berasal dari chat di whatsapp dan rekapan percakapan dari Zoom antara mahasiswa dengan dosen yang berada di Universitas Darma Agung. Berdasarkan metode penelitian kualitatif yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada 110 ujaran dalam bentuk strategi kesopanan, yang terdiri dari 95 ujaran (86,36%) untuk kesopanan positif, 5 ujaran (4,55%) untuk kesopanan negatif, 9 ujaran (8,18%) untuk Bald on Record, dan 1 ujaran (0,91%) untuk Off Record.

Abstract

This article concerns with “Language style in Instagram cosmetic Advertisement such as; Make Over, Revlon, and Maybelline. The product from the five cosmetics Instagram is focused on facial beauty especially: eye shadow, lipstick, foundation, eyeliner, mascara. In completing the analysis, library research was applied, the result of the analysis was elaborated by using a quantitative method and conducted by applying Martin Joos' (2010). The data are analyzed to find out kinds of language style of advertisement, the dominant use of language style in advertisement and giving the reason of the most dominant type of language in Instagram cosmetic The result of the analysis proves that there are five kinds of language style in the advertisement such as; Frozen Style, Formal Style, Consultative Style, Casual Style,and Intimate Style.Consultative Style is the most dominant use of language style in the advertisements of Instagram

Abstract

This research discussed Narcissism Portrayed by Hatsumomo in Arthur Golden’s Memoirs of a Geisha. The writer applied the theory of Narcissism Portrayed by Hatsumomo in Arthur Golden’s Memoirs of a Geisha as the unit analysis. The theory of Narcissism Portrayed by Hatsumomo in Arthur Golden’s Memoirs of a Geisha is used by the psycho-literature approach. The method of the research is descriptive qualitative. The reason for using this method is because this method is the most appropriate to be applied in this research. The author can find a comprehensive and deep description of narcissism in literary works. By using the qualitative method, the author can obtain the complete data and the data has high credibility. First, the research focuses on the narcissism portrayed by Hatsumomo in Arthur Golden’s Memoirs of a Geisha by analyzing the lines of her in the novel. By referring to the discussion, finally, the author comes to a conclusion that Hatsumomo has shown her narcissism that is reflected by her grandiosity sense and lack of empathy caused by her privilege in Okiya.

Abstract

This research dealst with Code Mixing Used by Teenagers in Facebook. The objective of the research was to find out the types of code mixing used by teenagers in their Facebook accounts status. The data analyzed were teenagers’ Facebook accounts status dated from 1st May until 31st July, 2019. The writer analyzed and interpreted the data based on Hoffman’s theory and qualitative design of research. The result of the study showed that there were three types of code mixing used by teenagers in their Facebook accounts status dated from 1st May until 31st July, 2019 based on Hoffman’s which were intra-sentential code mixing, intra-lexical code mixing and involving a change in pronunciation code mixing.

Abstract

This thesis dealt with Verb Phrase in Westlife’s Song Lyrics. Verb phrase was an important part of a sentence. It was important to make a study about verb phrase. The data in this study were seven songs of Westlife from their album, The World of Our Own. The song lyrics were analyzed to find out the types of verb phrase, the functions of verb phrase and the meaning of auxiliary in the verb phrase found in Westlife’s song lyrics. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative method. The results of the study showed that the functions of the verb phrases in Westlife’s song lyrics were as predicates, as noun phrases modifiers, adjective phrase complements, and verb phrase complements.

Abstract

Guessing words’ meaning by context clues can be resulted various depends on the contextual factors affected the process; richness factor, local-global factor, partial factor, and clear-ambiguous factor. The question lies in this article is ‘what is contextual factor mostly affected guessing words’ meaning in reading by the EFL learners?’ After taking data from 23 subjects by the instrument of observational test, the data analysis resulted as follow (1) context clues is positively contributed to the score of guessing words’ meaning in reading by the percentage 62,17% of correct answer, (2) both of richness factor and local-global factor are consistent to the theory, the rich-local factor is the most factor affect the guessing words’ meaning by the percentage of 69,56%, (3) after comparing the results of richness factor and local-global factor, it is resulted that richness factor is the factor which is mostly affect the guessing words’ meaning in reading by the percentage of 64,28% followed by the local-global factor by the percentage of 62,42%.

Abstract

Emily Dickinson adalah seorang penyair Amerika abad ke 19. Dia dikenal sebagai seorang penulis yang sangat religius, akan tetapi pada akhirnya dia berobah menjadi seorang penulis yang absurd dan paradoks. Perubahan yang sangat fundamental dan radikal ini dilator belakangi oleh hubungan pribadinya (percintaannya) dengan dua orang kekasihnya yang putus karena kematian akibat Perang Saudara. Dickinson pada akhirnya mengalami kegagalan untuk membentuk rumah tangga yang sangat diimpikannya. Sejak saat itulah hati kecilnya bergejolak dan mulai memberontak terhadap Tuhan, dan mempengaruhi karya-karyanya yang bertemakan sikap paradoks. Karena penelitian ini di dalam lingkup disiplin Pengkajian Amerika, maka selain menggunakan pendekatan psikologi, juga menekankan pada pendekatan interdisiplin, di antaranya pendekatan sejarah, budaya, sosiologi, biography, dan pendekatan sastra.Hasil Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa era dan kondisi social sangat berperan untuk mempengaruhi pergeseran nilai sosial dalam kehidupan pribadi seseorang secara khusus dan masyarakat secara umum.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berjudul Analisis Nilai Sosial dalam novel Cantik Itu Luka karya Eka Kurniawan. Analisis ini di fokuskan pada nilai sosial dan penggambaran nilai sosial dalam novel Cantik Itu Luka karya Eka Kurniawan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian berupa kutipan kalimat, dialog atau pun paragraf dalam novel Cantik Itu Luka. Data dalam penelitian ini diaplikasikan oleh teori Burhan mengatakan nilai sosial terbagi tiga jenis yaitu pertama nilai hubungan manusia dengan diri sendiri, kedua nilai hubungan manusia dengan masyarakat, dan ketiga nilai hubungan menusia dengan Tuhan. Ketiga jenis nilai merangkumi setiap kelakuan seseorang manusia dalam sehari-hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai sosial yang terkandung dalam novel ini meliputi kasih sayang, peduli, tolong menolong dan tanggung jawab. Penggambaran nilai sosial dalam novel ini adalah melakukan yang terbaik untuk orang yang anda cintai sebagai penggambaran kasih sayang dan tanggung jawab, rasa empati setiap anggota manusia untuk membantu orang lain sebagai penggambaran kepedulian, membantu meringankan kesulitan yang dirasakan orang lain sebagai penggambaran tolong menolong.

Abstract

This thesis deals with a conflict of an autistic character in Mark Haddon’s The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. The problems of the study are, the kinds of conflict, the causes of the conflict, and the impact of conflict on Christopher, as the main character in Mark Haddon’s novel. This thesis applies the qualitative research method. Christoper’s internal conflict is suffering from Asperger Syndrome as an autism spectrum disorder which in turn affects his overall behavior because the autism he suffers limits his actions and thoughts. He uses his normative way of making sense of his surrounding and seeks the mysterious death of the dog whereas Christopher’s external conflict such as man against. man and man against the society. This story emphasizes the different perspective that tells about what the main character gets through compared to people in general. He gets through various trials, gains confidence in his abilities and slowly changes to be more self-sufficient.

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas tentang Figurative Language in Bon Jovi’s Selected Song Lyrics (Majas dalam Lirik Lagu Terpilih Bon Jovi). Lagu-lagu Bon Jovi dipilih sebagai sumber data karena menggunakan majas untuk membuat lagu-lagunya indah didengar. Analisisnya difokuskan pada jenis-jenis majas di dalam lirik lagu terpilih Bon Jovi. Majas dalam lagu-lagu tersebut dianalisis dengan menggunakan teori Spivey. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan menggunakan rancangan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada tujuh (7) jenis majas yang ditemukan dalam lirik lagu terpilih Bon Jovi, yaitu Simile, Metafora, Personifikasi, Onomatopoeia, Hiperbola, Idiom dan Klise.
