Abstract

Background: Root canal treatment failure can be caused by periapical lesions and inadequate restorations such as post restorations. It showed that comprehensive evaluation, such as clinical or radiographic evaluation, is needed to observe the healing of endodontically treated dental and intra-radicular post-condition, especially fiber post and fiber reinforced composite (FRC). This research aims to evaluate the clinical and radiographic success of endodontically treated teeth restored with single crown restoration using a non-metal post. Methods: This study is a cross-sectional design and descriptive observation of evaluating endodontically treated teeth. 72 samples were collected from medical records, and radiographs of endodontically treated patients; then, scoring was carried out to categorize the treatment outcome using modified Strindberg criteria. Results: Endodontically treated dental restoration with non-metal post evaluation showed 63,9% teeth categorized as uncertain, followed by 36,1% teeth categorized as success and 0% in the failure category. Conclusion: The result of this study suggests that a longer follow-up period will be needed to achieve a more stable evaluation result.

Abstract

Background: Extraction has been known as a method for removing the tooth from its socket. Although extraction is frequent, the incidence of post extraction complication are commonly found, about 2,6-30,9%. Complications can inhibit wound healing and bone regeneration of socket. PRP is Platelet Rich Plasma containing growth factors that plays an important role in wound healing, induces bone regeneration and stimulates osteoprogenitor cell into osteoblast cell. Chitosan is a chitin derivate that extracted from the crab shells through deacetylation stage. Chitosan properties are osteoinductive, biocompatible, biodegradable, cell proliferation, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antitumor, and stimulates growth factors capabilities. Purpose: To analyze the combination of PRP and Chitosan gel to increase the number of osteoblast in post extraction wound of wistar rat teeth.Method: True experimental post-test only control group design was done in 28 wistar rats. Sample were divided into 4 groups: PRP gel, combination PRP and Chitosan gel, Chitosan gel and control group Povidone Iodine. Dextra Mandible incisors were extracted and treated accordingly. Number of osteoblast in post extraction socket was observed microscopically after 14 days using IHC staining. Data analyzed by using One Way ANOVA parametric test followed by Post Hoc LSD test. Results: There were statically signifcant difference between number of osteoblast in combination PRP and Chitosan gel group compare to PRP gel group (p=0,736), Chitosan gel group (p=0,402) and Povidone Iodine group (p=0,613).Conclusion: Combination PRP and Chitosan gel has a good effect in increasingnumber of osteoblast in wound healing post dental extraction

Abstract

Background: Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic autoimmune disease sprinkled by T cells on the oral mucosal surface. The goal of OLP treatment is to eliminate erythema, ulceration and relieve symptoms. Corticosteroids are the first line in the treatment of OLP, either systemically or topically. The problem arises when using topical steroids, namely the time of topical steroid attachment to the oral mucosa, especially in cases of OLP with clinical desquamative gingivitis. Some studies suggest that the use of individual gingival tray can overcome this problem. Objective: To provide information on topical steroid use in OLP cases with desquamative gingivitis clinical signs.Case Management: Women, age 31, complain that pain with burning on the lips and mouth is aggravated by spicy food. Intraoral examination shows irregular white plaques on the buccal, labial and dorsal mucosa of the tongue accompanied by diffuse erythema in the anterior gingiva of the upper and lower jaws. Patients diagnosed with OLP. Lesions improve 3 months after topical steroid administration, except lesions on the gingiva. Gingival individual tray is then used to obtain adequate attachment of topical steroids on the gingiva surface. The gingiva showed significant improvement after a month later. Conclusion: The use of topical steroid concoctions applied to the gingival individual tray is effective in treating OLP lesions especially with clinical signs of desquamative gingivitis.

Abstract

Background: Tooth extraction is one of minor oral surgical procedure and antibiotics are commonly prescribed before or after the tooth extraction procedure. Antibiotic is used as therapy or to prevent infections after tooth extractions. Recent studies discovered that misuse of antibiotics by dentists has been an issue nowadays. The purpose of this study is to investigate the frequency and varieties of antibiotics post tooth extraction used by dentists in Bandung City.Method: This study uses a quantitative descriptive method with a cross-sectional approach using a questionnaire. The samples in this study are general dentists and specialists in Bandung. The questionnaire was sent to dentists using proportionate stratified random sampling. Result: The most frequently used antibiotics in Bandung City are Amoxicillin 500 mg (83,1%) and Clindamycin (24,3%). Most respondents prescribed antibiotics after tooth extractions for 5 days. Conclusion: A small percentage of Dentists in Bandung City still prescribed antibiotics in conditions that do not always require antibiotics, such as simple post-extraction, irreversible pulpitis, and reversible pulpitis. Broad-spectrum antibiotics are more commonly prescribed to prevent infections. Furthermore, antibiotic usage after simple tooth extraction needs to be done by considering the patient’s condition, diagnosis, and difficulty level of extraction.
