Abstract

The study examined the effectiveness of game-based learning in TOEFL preparatory course section 2 – structure and written expression, given over a period of 8 meetings. Employing two-cycle classroom action research design, it engaged diploma students from purposefully selected major, Railway Mechanical Technology, in Politeknik Perkeretaapian Indonesia Madiun (N=48). The first cycle learned using paper-based learning (4 meetings), and the second cycle learned using game-based learning (4 meetings). All learning processes were conducted outside classroom. The data was gathered through pretest before the first cycle and posttests after each cycle. Then, analysis was run in SPSS 25 using descriptive statistics, paired sample t-test and Cohen d to determine the degree of impact of the students’ learning outcomes. The findings showed that there was no mean difference between pretest and first cycle posttest, but there was mean difference between pretest and second cycle posttest and first cycle posttest and second cycle posttest. The test results before and after implementing game-based learning had strong relationship with modest impact. It meant that game-based learning was more effective than paper-based learning to accommodate students in TOEFL preparatory course section 2.

Abstract

Background: Radiotherapy masks patients are a fixation tool in radiotherapy radiation services. The function of the radiotherapy mask is to fix the irradiation area in the patient’s body part for serial radiation therapy, for approximately 1 month. A printed radiotherapy mask is used by the patient from the first session until the final session of radiation is complete. The inner surface of the mask is always in contact with the patient's skin. Practically, the masks are never been cleaned so it is possible to develop infectious Fungi or microorganisms. The research objective was to determine the difference in the number of microorganisms (Staphylococcus and Fungi) before and after cleaning using a 70% alcohol disinfectant Methodology: This is experimental research. The number of microorganisms (Staphylococcus and Fungi) in 16 radiotherapy masks were identified with the Swap method before and after cleaning using 70% alcohol disinfectant. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test to determine the differences in the number of microorganisms before and after cleaning and to identify the reduction percentages. Result: the number of Fungi and Staphylococcus before cleaning were 9,528 and 0.490, while after cleaning were 8228 and 0,194, respectively The amount of percentage reductions before and after cleaning were 43.275% (Staphylococcus ) and 38.529% (Fungi). Based on the Wilcoxon test on Staphylococcus , meaning that. There was a difference in Staphylococcus (ρ value= 0.003) on the radiotherapy patient's mask before and after cleaning using 70% alcohol. There was no difference in Fungi (ρ value= 0.220) before and after being cleaned using 70% alcohol. The research results are very important as material for the revision of standard operational procedures for radiotherapy services.

Abstract

Saluang dendang Sirompak lives and develops in the Taeh community, Fifty Cities District, which is considered a musical art that is a magical ritual. If we reflect on Islamic teachings, this Sirompak has greatly deviated from Islamic teachings, but until now there are still people who defend it, and conversely there are quite a lot of people who oppose the Sirompak tradition. Saluang dendang Sirompak has several musical elements such as rhythm, poetry, melody, and scales. Saluang Sirompak has a loose rhythm and very rarely puts pressure on the rhythm, while the lyrics contain spells to function to cast spells on the target person who will be assisted by spirits, and the resulting melodies are accompaniment to chants or spells sung by the performer, ladder the tone used is a minor scale that seems mystical, this is what causes Saluang Sirompak to seem mystical and many people are afraid to hear this Saluang Sirompak melody. The beauty of Sirompak's melodies with a magical background has always been positioned as a sound aesthetic that is still considered taboo to be developed beyond the mystical function it carried in the past. Currently sirompak has begun to be developed as an art form with the format of folk performing arts.
