Abstract

Adolescence is the transition from childhood to adulthood, a period between childhood and adulthood, characterized by social, mental, and physical changes. Physical growth in teenagers is shown by sharp increases in height and weight. You should consume plenty of fruits and vegetables to maintain your body's nutritional balance. Many vitamins, minerals, and fibers needed by the body are found in this type of diet every day. Teenagers often skip meals, snack, and consume a lot of fast food, along with other poor eating behaviors. These issues can affect teenagers' health in the future, According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 400–600 grams of fruits and vegetables per day are recommended for adolescents. Schools are expected to teach adolescents about a balanced diet. Understanding nutrition affects attitudes and behavior when making food choices, which in turn influences eating patterns and nutritional status. Problems in adolescent growth and development as well as eating behavior issues will arise due to ignorance about the nutritional contributions of various types of foods. A literature review on the topic or variable being studied is used in this study. The information used comes from the researcher's own literature review and research articles that discuss the topic. Variables that influence the Determinants of Fruit and Vegetable Eating Behavior in Adolescents According to Social Cognitive Theory 2021 – 2025.

Abstract

Premarital sexual behavior among adolescents in Indonesia shows a worrying trend. Negative impacts such as sexually transmitted infections (STIs), unwanted pregnancies, and even dropping out of school pose a serious threat to adolescents' futures. The Health Belief Model (HBM) theory is used to understand how individual beliefs influence preventive measures against these risky behaviors. This study aims to identify determinants of premarital sexual behavior among adolescents based on the six main components of the HBM through a literature review. This study used a literature review method of academic sources from Google Scholar and PubMed databases for the period 2021-2025. The analysis was conducted descriptively by grouping findings based on the variables of perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, cues to action, and self-efficacy. A literature review shows that perceived severity, perceived benefits, and self-efficacy consistently have significant relationships with efforts to prevent promiscuity. Meanwhile, perceived susceptibility and perceived barriers show varying results and are not always significant in every context. Health education interventions based on the Human Behavior Model (HBM) have been shown to be effective in increasing adolescent knowledge and self-efficacy. The HBM approach is a valid instrument for mapping the determinants of adolescent sexual behavior. Strengthening self-efficacy and personal internalization of risk are key to the success of health promotion programs.

Abstract

Smoking behavior among adolescents is a growing public health problem with a high potential to increase the risk of non-communicable diseases in the future. The high number of adolescent smokers in Indonesia indicates the need for a deeper understanding of the individual factors that influence this behavior. This study aims to analyze individual factors in adolescent smoking behavior using the Health Belief Model (HBM) theory. The method used is a literature review of relevant national and international journals, taken from the Google Scholar and PubMed databases. This study was conducted from October to December 2025 by evaluating various studies on adolescent smoking behavior and aspects of HBM. The findings of this study reveal that smoking behavior in adolescents is influenced by perceptions of vulnerability, perceptions of severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, and self-efficacy. Although many adolescents are aware of the dangers of smoking, this does not encourage them to take preventive measures or quit smoking. Social and psychological barriers, as well as addiction levels, are factors that hinder behavioral change, while self-efficacy plays a key role in adolescents' ability to refuse or quit smoking. In conclusion, adolescent smoking behavior is more influenced by how individuals interpret risks and beliefs about health than by knowledge alone. Therefore, health promotion interventions must strengthen all components of the HBM comprehensively.

Abstract

Smoking behavior among adolescents remains a major public health concern at both national and global levels. Adolescents are particularly vulnerable to social and environmental influences, which increases their likelihood of initiating smoking at an early age. The Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) has been widely applied to explain smoking intention and behavior through three core constructs: attitude toward the behavior, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control. This study aims to systematically review the determinants of smoking intention and behavior among adolescents based on the TPB framework. A literature review method was employed by analyzing eight national and international journal articles published between 2021 and 2025. The findings indicate that smoking intention is the strongest predictor of actual smoking behavior as well as smoking cessation intention among adolescents. Positive attitudes toward smoking, permissive subjective norms particularly peer influence and low perceived behavioral control are consistently associated with higher smoking intention. Conversely, negative attitudes toward smoking and stronger perceived behavioral control contribute to higher intentions to quit smoking. These results highlight the robustness of TPB in explaining adolescent smoking behavior and emphasize the importance of developing preventive interventions that target attitude change, healthy social norm formation, and the strengthening of adolescents’ self-control abilities.

Abstract

The eating habits of today's youth have shifted to fast food, which is practical, tasty, and easily accessible through food delivery and social media. However, this carries the risk of causing obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and other health problems. Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) emphasizes the relationship between individual factors (knowledge, attitudes, motivation/intensity, self-efficacy, self-regulation, taste preferences) and environmental factors (family support, peers, socioeconomic status/allowance, physical environment/media access, and gender). According to open access journal collection methods from Google Scholar and PubMed (2021–2025), the conclusion is that environmental variables such as social media access (p<0.05 in several studies), pocket money, and social support have a greater influence on fast food consumption than individual variables. With more dominant platforms such as Instagram serving as a hub for food advertising and trends.

Abstract

Abstract

Invasive procedures in children, such as IV insertion and blood sampling, often cause pain and anxiety that can lead to psychological trauma. One non-pharmacological intervention that can be used to reduce pain is distraction techniques using cartoon videos. This study aims to determine the effect of distraction techniques using cartoon videos on children's pain levels during invasive procedures. This study used a quantitative design with a quasi-experimental method using a pretest–posttest with control group approach. The study sample consisted of 60 children aged 3–10 years who were divided into an intervention group and a control group. Pain levels were measured using the Wong-Baker Faces Pain Rating Scale. Data analysis was performed using a paired t-test and independent t-test. The results showed a significant decrease in pain levels in the group given cartoon video distraction with a p-value < 0.05. It was concluded that the distraction technique using cartoon videos was effective in reducing pain in children during invasive procedures.

Abstract

Sleep quality is one of the important factors that play a role in the physical, mental, and cognitive development of adolescents. However, various changes in lifestyle and environment have caused more and more adolescents to experience sleep quality disorders. This study aims to analyze the factors that affect sleep quality in adolescents based on the Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) approach by reviewing relevant scientific literature. The method used was a literature review of national and international articles published between 2020 and 2025. The literature search was conducted using the Google Scholar and PubMed databases, and 10 articles that met the inclusion criteria were obtained. The results of the study show that individual factors are the most dominant factors affecting adolescent sleep quality, including stress levels, excessive use of gadgets (social media and online games), pre-sleep habits, and the use of sleeping pills and caffeine. Environmental factors, such as noise, lighting, and room temperature, also play a role, although they have not been extensively studied. Poor sleep quality has an impact on decreased concentration in learning, mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression, and decreased physical fitness. In conclusion, adolescent sleep quality is influenced by the interaction between individual and environmental factors as described in social cognitive theory. Promotive and preventive efforts are needed through the habit of healthy sleep behavior and supportive environments to improve adolescent sleep quality.
